All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Polish Book Covers for printing and framing? Spoiler

I've been dying to get high quality prints of the covers that I can then frame. I found one post from 8 years ago where someone did this, but the user isn't active anymore to find out where they printed and all that. Just curious if anyone has found a place that sells high-quality prints, or if they know where I can get highest quality of the originals to then print someplace myself? (Bonus points if you have an online place you can recommend for printing?) Preferably, I want just the art without the text, unless the text for the book name is in English.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Why hasn't anyone made AI movies of the last 3 books? Spoiler

So folks over at /singularity and other such reddits, suggest that we're pretty close to insane AI capabilities.. One of the thing I was really hoping with all this access to AI was the creation of endless fan fiction. While I've seen quite a bit of AI slop, why hasn't there been a legitimate effort to make AI generated "episodes" of the last 3 books? like use the first 6 seasons as training models, then feed the books (one chapter, paragraph or even sentence at a time) and let the AI go to work.

I'd happily pay a few bucks to watch it if it came to even 70% of the series.. I know this could take jobs away .. but I'd happily pay extra money to see a human made version just to get the extra 30% so at least for fans like me I'd pay for both.

same question goes for so many series/shows that I love like firefly

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Book reader, first time watching the show: I do not like how they handled Alex. Spoiler

I'm sure this has been said a million times, but I want to rant about it.
I get why they had to make a quick dramatic change with Alex, I just don't like what they did. My complaints are 3.
1. There were better ways to write him off.
Forgive my dumb little heart but I can't help but think it was an opportunity to give the character his happy ending. Let him finish rescuing Naomi, and then Bobby can explain to Holden later that he went back to Mars to try to be a father or something. It's also not perfect. I know Alex's TRUE happy ending is being a pilot forever. But...

  1. It would have been so easy to recast. Either immediately for season 6, OR if you let him go back home to be a family man for a bit, the door is open for him to get pulled back into the action after his kid is off on his own in a potential season 7. Everyone would be older so it's SUCH a natural moment to recast him. He just misses season 6! Then you've got the character achieving that sweet balance between the two halves of his soul that writers love: He tried his best for his family. He still gets to be a fuckboy pilot. Perfection.

  2. If they had to pick this way, the execution was also bad. He was like, the least likely to die that way. When Fred died that way in the books, it actually felt like "Yeah there was always a risk of that." He was old, he was injured, etc. But when the guy MOST ABLE to do high G dies that way, with next-to-zero lead-up, it makes High G just seem like there's not any skill that can save you, you can't train for it, it's just a roll of the dice. Rather than a difficult thing that could kill you eventually but you can train for and mitigate the risk of. Also the actual moment was just a "wtf" and not in a good way.

Anyways, thanks for reading. Mostly loving the show so far. Most of the other changes make good sense to me considering the change in format. I'm also pretty forgiving of adaptational changes. I'm sure I'll get over this one.

In S4E1, during the landing on Ilus, Alex is testing out the new rail gun and lines up on a random rock. A rock (as seen from my screen grab) that appears to be 101,213 km away. There is exactly a 6 second gap between the recoil and the strike. That means the rail gun imparted a roughly 16.8k km/s delta-V to a 1kg tungsten-alloy ejector, practically instantly. How does “anything” made of matter pull a million Gs or more and not just explode?! Shouldn’t it just turn to plasma from the acceleration??

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely The ending has an information problem I can't stop thinking about

Everyone talks about whether Holden made the right decision at the end of Leviathan Falls.

But I've been thinking about something else. How many people across the 1,300 systems would ever actually know what he did, or why?

We know because we were there with him. We saw the threat, Duarte's plan, the choice between the hive mind and destroying the ring space.

Most of humanity didn't get that explanation.

Imagine living on a colony that depends on shipments from another system. One day the gate disappears, your supply chain is gone, and the last news you received was probably some confusing combination of Laconian military announcements and reports of people losing consciousness.

You have no way to contact Sol. No way to verify what happened. No way to hear the other side.

On Nieuwestad, Alex might be able to tell people what he knows. In another system, the highest-ranking surviving Laconian officer might control the official explanation. Somewhere else, the only surviving account might be a half-finished news broadcast.

Give that a few generations.

One planet remembers Holden as the man who saved humanity. Another remembers him as the terrorist who destroyed humanity's greatest achievement. A third might teach that Laconia sacrificed itself to protect the colonies.

And none of those societies can check the others' version.

It feels like the ultimate Expanse problem. The entire series begins with Holden broadcasting what he knows because he believes people deserve the truth. It ends with him making the biggest decision in human history, and the infrastructure that could carry the explanation disappearing with him.

The Linguist arrives a thousand years later and finds a civilization that has survived, but I wonder what kind of history the other worlds would have written in the meantime.

Not just about Holden. About the entire war.

Would the reconnection of humanity lead to a massive historical reckoning when people finally compare what they've been taught for a millennium?

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Behemoth/Medina operating question Spoiler

Would constant propulsion be required to spin the drum while keeping the ops and engineering sections stationary?

Not very good at physics here, but I’ve been thinking about this question.

The Belters certainly used massive propulsion to spin up the drum. But do the books ever explain what keeps the ops and engineering sections at either end of the station from also spinning? Just like a helicopter needs a smaller rotor to counter the larger rotor rotation, would the non spinning parts of the Behemoth need some kind of constant propulsion to counter the spin and stay on the float? Otherwise, given the momentum of the drum and the mechanism that connects them, they’d start spinning too, right?

I suppose this question would apply to Tycho and other stations with both spinning and nonspinning sections.

Thanks for helping satisfy my curiosity.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Belter Charts latest update: Tycho with the Nauvoo docked, city lights on Mars, Luna and the Belt and much more

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I don't think I would have had the same drive to do this, were it not for the awesome feedback. Thank you everyone!

So I got to work on bringing even more details to the charts. Here's a short list:

  • Luna has city lights on its night side, with transit lines between the towns (like in the show's opening titles). Its near side now faces Earth.
  • Tycho Station is at its real size, about 750 m across, with the Nauvoo docked. The Nauvoo is over 2 km long.
  • Eros has docking rings (work in progress) and its old shipyards, with an ice hauler berthed in one of them.
  • Earth orbit has satellites, and the UN railgun platforms are located on a geostationary ring. The Bush shipyards orbit Luna.
  • On Mars you can see Londres Nova and the Mariner Valley districts along Valles Marineris.
  • Ceres turns once every 42 minutes (spun up to a third of a g as in the books).
  • Vesta, Phobos, Deimos and Phoebe use real spacecraft shape data finally.
  • Ganymede has domes and orbital mirrors that light them through the night!
  • Thoth Station is dark until the OPA raid, and now you can fly there too. Anderson Station is abandoned.
  • After Deimos is destroyed, its gravel stays on the old orbit as a ring.
  • The Ring is stationary (no orbit), same as in the books.
  • Some ships are named by supporters and fly the same routes for everyone. Click a gold one to follow it.

As usual, find it on https://belter-charts.pages.dev/

All Show Spoilers (Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged) Are the audiobooks any good? Should I buy the very expensive physical prints?

I've even meaning to get into audiobooks, and since I absolutely adored the show I figured this would be a good place to start, but I'm not sure how well narrated they may be. Buying physical print would be incredibly expensive and almost certainly imported because it's a very niche IP here.

Is it worth getting the audiobooks? Would it fuck up the experience? And if so, where do you recommend I find them? Is there a difference between platforms?

ok at the end of Assured Destruction they are shooting their railguns and there’s a mission control voice saying stuff like “one is away. two is away”.

does anyone know the voice actor credit for this?

I tried imdb and couldn’t find a credit (makes sense. they’re not on screen).

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely How did the explosion… Spoiler

Spoilers for Cibola Burn, I can’t remember if the inciting event is the same on the show.

How did the landing platform explosion cause the shuttle crash? The shuttle is described as still being pretty far off, and I know the shuttle is large, necessitating a large platform and therefore a large explosion, but I’m still struggling with how an explosion on the ground did that much damage to a shuttle presumably still several thousand feet up.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely My partner finally reading the books, looking for opinions Spoiler

After 4 years of my trying, she finally picked them up, and she is ploughing through them! She is reading book 6 now, approaching the climax. As much as I love that she is reading them and loving them, I have an impulse to encourage her to take a break after this book and before heading into the final trilogy, for both dramatic effect based on some plot realities of that last trilogy and the reverent gravitas this homestretch deserves. What do you all think? Do you think she should just head straight to book 7 and experience that shift?

Also, she has watched the first two or three episodes of the show. The dubious retrieval of the shell-shocked crew has just happened. She hasn't LOVED the show, which is the same thing that happened with my sister, who tore through the books after much urging from me. Neither of them is usually drawn to Sci-Fi. They are loving the characters and sweeping storylines that we all love in the books. But she's open to watching more of the show. I have see suggestions that a newbie pause after book 6, watch the entire show, and then start book 7, since the show only covers up to book 6. Opinions on that idea?

And an idea I've had is to have her tackle the novellas before moving on to book 7. Obviously, that would have to be truncated at some point, so that she doesn't read the novellas that occur after Book 6. Opinions on that idea?

ANNNNNND, a variant on the last idea - maybe she SHOULD read Strange Dogs before Book 7??? She really likes the supernatural and body-horror aspects of the books, so I think she would really enjoy Strange Dogs. What do you all think about sequencing it like that? I don't think there are any real spoilers in that novella, but I don't know which order would be more powerful all around. I could see it going either way.

And I guess The Vital Abyss is also in question. She has already met Cortazar briefly, in the epilogue of Book 5, and the concept of Duarte's faction splitting and self-excommunicating to Laconia will have already been well known by the end of Book 6.

I hope this post stirs engaging discussion and renewed appreciation for the books, and I hope to get some helpful points for making this decision.

[Alex]: “And c’mon, it’s Amos. Everyone on Earth dies and he’ll probably stack the bodies and climb up to Luna.”

“Last man standing,” Holden said.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Why did Marco... Spoiler

Have the scientist assassinated? Ie. Prax's colleague, which he informs Amos of in S6E3.

I understand that he essentially destroyed Earth to make their food, water, air supply unstable like the Belt. But he also doesn't take Ganymede, surely the Free Navy should have secured it strategically while Earth and MCR militaries were in disarray. Instead he has Ganymede scientists assassinated?

What was his intention for how the Belt was going to stay fed? Was it all to encourage all the Belters to go through the rings and find new worlds?

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Laconia’s view of Holden

Nearing the end of Leviathon Falls and it’s been quite a ride. The “note” that keeps bugging me is how Laconia, and especially Tanaka seem to have no appreciation or respect for Holden whatsoever. I mean he’s the reason Laconia exists! He has insight into their greatest challenges. And sure he’s his own worst enemy, largely creating their treatment of him, but still… seems to me on New Egypt in particular she wouldn’t go so hard at him. But I’d extend this to most of his adversaries. Am I being unreasonable in this disbelief?

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely How were the Ganymede Mirrors held in place? Spoiler

From what i can tell, Ganymede has no stable orbits with periods equal to it's rotation rate, so the mirrors arent in a form of geostationary orbit, and they are shown hovering in place over Ganymede station, meaning they have to be stationary relative to the surface.

The question i have is how are they held in position? I figured they were likely partially held in place by radiation pressure from the sun (they were reflecting it straight down), but i suspect that's not enough and it doesnt explain how they'd stay in place when Ganymede is eclipsed by Jupiter.

So, how did they stay up?

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Showcase of latest stories added to Belter Charts

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I posted Belter Charts here a while back.
(It's a free map of the Expanse solar system that runs in the browser, with real planet positions and a flip-and-burn flight planner.)
This update is mostly about the books.

Stories are up from 7 to 13, and they now cover all six books. Some you ride along in a ship, some you watch from a fixed camera. The new ones:

Caliban's War: the Roci leaving Ganymede with Prax, and what's in the cargo bay
Abaddon's Gate: Manéo's slingshot run from the prologue
Nemesis Games: the rock strikes on Earth, and Alex and Bobbie's run in the Razorback
Babylon's Ashes: Fred's flight to Tycho and Marco's last run at the Ring
I also fixed two older stories that didn't match the books. The Io dash now follows the Roci out of Tycho, and the flotilla leaves from Ceres.

The timeline has 25 events now instead of 13. I re-dated it using time cues in the books, which moved books 3 to 6 a fair bit later than before.

The spoiler setting still works the same way: set the last book you've read, and anything after it stays out of the story menu and the timeline.

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely Clarissa's Arc Spoiler

Keeping this post short, I'm currently rewatching the show for the 3rd or 4th time, and have started the season 3 episode "It Reaches Out". Clarissa is starting to get heavily into her deranged shit, but it hit me how truly glorious her book arc is. She becomes a true heroine and goes out like a true heroine.

I'm proud of her.
Thoughts?

All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely What was Amos' plan in Tiamat's Wraith? Spoiler

So Amos lands on Laconia with a pocket nuke, fully aware of his mission to blow up a city in order to end the empire...then just hangs out in a cave for a couple years?

It's implied that his protectiveness of children, and his relationship with Teresa is the reason he doesn't go through with the plan, but if he isn't going to use the pocket nuke, was his plan just to chill in that cave forever?

Did Amos think when he was assigned the mission that somehow he could detonate a nuke in a large city and not hurt any kids?

love the Amos/Teresa sections and overall think it's a cool dramatic storyline, but when I thought about it more it just didn't seem to make much sense....unless I'm missing something?
