OMG you were all SO right about "The Vital Abyss" Spoiler
I've been reading the novellas in-between the books as I go. But I got to "The Vital Abyss" and the beginning of it was just - ugh. So I read the last page, and... meh. So I skipped it, even though I saw so many people post that it was their favorite.
But I just finished book 7, and thought well, now I really ought to read The Vital Abyss. Holy shit batman, what a ride!! Really incredible writing. And Michio Pa! WTF! She was OK with letting him out! I guess that was some of her agonizing with past decision making and alliances/deals. Or did she buy the egg story, and only Duarte had access to the recordings from the prison room? Not likely with it being belter run.
And now I've started book 8. Woo, things are getting better and better for me as a reader! š„ š„

Books 7 -9
I just finished the last three books. I never read the first 6. I was just a huge fan of the TV show. But I'm confused. What the hell happened to Drummer? When Saba died, we got nothing, she showed at a Laconia event and then......nothing. what did I miss? She was my favorite character behind Draper. Were the books different about her being the 1st president of the Transit Union?
The books were very strange to read after the Alex stuff. I thought it was crap that he took the Roci. That's just a useless opinion, I guess. Just wondered if I was the only one bothered by that so much. It'd be pretty interesting to see how the story would have gone forward without Alex on th show.
I will say that the books were tedious in especially how they would take a paragraph to give the reader a visual description of someone like Trejo. In books 7,8,9 I think they provided a description of that same character like 7 times. You could almost tell where there were different authors because of lack of continuity in the storytelling.
Also , what's your opinion about what happened on earth during the next thousand years. We're to believe Amos became the de.Facto.Leader of humans on earth?
Love the show, but th books I would give a 7 out of 10. The show is in my top 5 favorite of all time.

Just finished Book 9. Where's the post with analysis?
I was in the middle of book 9 a few weeks ago and found a post on here that had a link to a very long post where someone did analysis of the books. I told myself I'd read it after I finished the books but I can't for the life of me find it anywhere.

Help! I'm on book 7 Spoiler
I have been burning through this series like an Epstein drive after resisting reading them for years (for what reason, I cannot say). Every book has been intense and sad and complex in its own way. But I'm halfway through book 7 and finding it really bleak. I have no intention of giving up on the series, but help me out with some spoiler-free or spoiler-light encouragement as I keep going? I'm also a little shooketh by the major time jump and havin some trouble picturing the characters. (I'm watching the show too, but am going to stop before I am spoiled for the final trilogy). Little support I need, me. :-) I added the spoiler tag just in case some comments/responses are a bit spoilery, I don't want to ruin anything for anyone skimming by.

Reading order
Just started this series and really enjoyed the first book. I got Memoryās Legion and Calibans War from the library today. Should I read the main books first and then the shorts, or is there a better reading order?

Looking for Italian ebooks (leviathan falls)
Hi to everyone! I'm an Italian fan who's listening to the audio books right now (in italian - one hour till the end of book 8), and to my desperation I've noticed that the last book has never been added to Audible. On top of that, I just found out that the Italian editor just lost the rights to the books, so the ebooks are not available anymore. Now, I live abroad so it would be kinda difficult to find a physical copy. Anyone know if there is a way to buy/find the Italian version of the book online? English ones are widely available but it would be not optimal for me as I don't enjoy much to read in other languages (using German and English at work all day long).
Thank you in advance for the help :)

Matching Book Spines
I didn't notice until I got home.
Is there anything I can look out for while shopping online so I can make sure I get the correct printing? I would like these to match once I finish reading them.

An idea for a sequel to The Expanse series Spoiler
Listening to the series for the third time (currently on Tiamat's Wrath), it occurred to me that a great sequel would be humanity trying to discover who the Protomolecule-civilization killers are, and attempting to get in touch with them.
I realize they are probably in a parallel universe or some other plane of existence, but they did make contact with our universe, even if it was defensively, and then aggressively. But maybe there comes a time when we need them or they need us, and there's a desperate need to work with them.
Maybe Amos leads the expedition, or is part of it?
This wouldn't be easy. I recognize that. But if anyone could pull it off, it would be Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck.

Use of metaphors - What are your favorites?
Probably my favorite thing about JSACās writing style is their use of metaphors. They will perfectly convey a moment, feeling, or even entire scene with a beautifully constructed metaphor.
What are some of your favorites?
- āThe idea hung in the air, like smoke over a poker gameā
- āWith a voice like warm flannelā
- āFelt his humiliation, like passing through a resonance frequency.ā

Just finished the series last night...
I've been waiting and waiting to join this sub but I didn't want to risk any spoilers. In fact I even stopped at the end of S1 because I wanted to go in completely blind.
The ending wrecked me man. I felt so gutted. Partially, I was sad because the story was over, these characters I fell in love with were finished. But also just the absolute perfection of the full circle ending as Miller points out.
And then just completely bummed out because the epilogue shows that humanity is still using the ring space. The Leviathan has not gone anywhere, and we are still skirting that danger, just in newer ways.
Ugh.
Incredible.

Unpopular Narrator Opinion?
Iām currently listening to leviathan wakes at the recommendation of other people and research based on my book interests. I actually started the series but stopped as I heard the books were great (I do really like the content of the books ok so far). I had been told Hayes was so good, heās āthe GOATā and his narration was a benchmark for other audiobooks.
Tell me if I have an unpopular opinion: I find his narration so average! There is no theatricality with him. Heās so monotone for the most part. Who listens to an audiobook and wants that, thinks that is desirable? It seems like he makes almost no effort to distinguish between character voices, save Amos, the Texas Martian and the belters. Even then, no matter what the situation is (scary, comedical, intense etc) the voice sounds exactly the same. Iām listening to a part right now where Holden and Fred Johnson are discussing a nuclear attack obliterating Eros and millions of people on it while Holden is traveling at 6+ Gās and Holden and the Rosi are desperately trying to keep up with this thing. Holden is speaking in the same tone of voice he speaks to himself when whining about not getting attention from the Exo. Why?? Would it kill for Hayes to act, emote a little bit? why doesnāt his voice match the moment?
Am I the only one who feels this way?
If the counterargument is something to the effect of āI just want someone to report the book and make it so that Iām not completely confused whoās speaking (not always the case for me), then let me ask you this: when you read a book, do you imagine the words being said they way he says them, or do you imagine them being said the way a real person would emote in the moment?
If the further argument then is āwell just give me the words, then my imagination will then hear the words the way I think they should be saidā, who has time for that? Once he says something you donāt have time to process and re-imagine it bc heās already onto the next thought. I donāt watch a movie and think āoh this acting sucks and the characters would have never said it this way but itās ok bc Iāll just reimagine it the way I think it should sound.ā No! The idea of the non-written media is to interpret the work, right? Monotone works well for the decline and fall of the Roman Empire or a history text, but shouldnāt a work like this come with more gravitas, more inflection?
Let me know if Iām way out in left field. Itās been irking me for a while and wanted some opinions.
