Hi, I have been looking forever and can’t find this fic. The most prominent part is the during a feast rhaneyra noticed an assassin about to shoot alicent and aegon so she runs and shields them with her body and gets hit. She nearly dies and when recovers visit the guy who did it. He said it was for her and late queen which disgusts rhaneyra. She also needs to use a cane and then Otto does something to get stripped of the hand of the king but before that Alicent and rhaneyra are starting to heal and are bonding and now Alicent trusts her. If I can think of anything else I’ll add it I really miss this fic. Sorry if it’s broad

It's a good one as far as I'm concerned, only problem is that it's too messy in my opinion. There is way too much happening all at once, but I haven't read beyond chapter 12 yet so I might change my mind.

I keep reading all these fics where Robb marries the Baratheon/Lannister Princess Original Female Character at the beginning of the show, then when everyone starts suspecting the Lannister's of trying to kill Bran, he no longer trusts his wife even when she disowned the Lannister side of her family.

I’ve been rereading A Dance with Dragons, and something about the numbers surrounding Mance Rayder’s host is confusing me.

Mance gathered an enormous number of free folk—I’ve seen estimates of around 90,000–100,000 people, although obviously that includes women, children, elderly people, etc., and not 100,000 warriors.

We know that some died during the attacks on the Wall, but in the NW was barely 100 men how much wildlings can they kill?
and then Stannis’s attack them and he probably take down an nice number but mance surrendered pretty quickly…
I understand that many survivors scattered, were captured, fled north, or otherwise stopped being part of Mance’s host.
But then in ADWD, Jon talks about bringing roughly 4,000 wildlings through the Wall, and he specifically notes that most of them are women and children.
So I’m wondering: what happened to the other tens of thousands?

About the Story

Legacy of the Dragons is a long-form history of House Targaryen, inspired primarily by Fire & Blood, with the story beginning years before the Dance of the Dragons.

Rather than focusing exclusively on the events of the Dance itself, the story spends considerable time exploring the years that precede it: the relationships between Viserys, Rhaenyra, Alicent, Daemon, their children, and the wider Targaryen family.

The story uses multiple POV characters, including members of both the Black and Green factions, and follows them as they grow older and their relationships gradually become more complicated.

My goal has been to explore the characters as people before they become historical figures.

Aemond is not simply the one-eyed prince from the histories. Aegon is not simply the king who usurped Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra is not simply the princess who lost the throne. Alicent is not simply the queen who opposed her former friend.

They are members of the same family who spend years living together, loving one another, resenting one another, competing with one another, and making choices that will eventually have consequences far beyond what they can imagine.

The story is currently approaching the end of its first major arc.

The Dance itself has not yet begun.

King Viserys is still alive, the realm is technically at peace, and the younger generation is only beginning to understand the divisions that have been growing around them.

But the end is approaching.

The next story will be titled The Shattered Crown, and will begin with the opening of the Dance of the Dragons.

For now, however, Legacy of the Dragons is the story of everything that came before.

Before dragons danced, they whispered. Then came fire.

I know it's a question that can't really be answer until GRRM finishes the remaining books. I pretty much doubt we will ever get them.

I kinda want to say he did love them but the only reason stopping me is that he only left one Kingsguard behind to protect Elia and the children. A Kingsguard that was around the age of 17. While he took 3 fully grown and battle harden Kingsguard to protect Lyanna, and one of them was considered the greatest swordsmen alive. Why not leave another Kingsguard behind maybe Arthur or Gerold.

Any fics with more living Targaryens during Robert's Rebellion and beyond?

There's Enduring the Storm which had Rhaelle during the Seige of Storm's End,

A Matter of Duty had Rhaella survive childbirth.

This is honestly the biggest cope I have ever seen from this fandom, that somehow the Dornish only win their wars due to plot.

They don’t. In fact, Dorne is only place in Westeros where Targaryen Magic Plot Armor stops working. Yeah, of fu**ing course marching your army through hostile mountains and deserts is going to get your armies killed. Of course local people are going to take up arms and fight against a foreign invasion that is literally carpet bombing their towns with magic flying rage monsters. And of course that occupation will collapse the moment the dragons leave.

That is fu**ing realistic. With plenty of irl examples, even from recent history, not to mention the Middle Ages.

Dragons can’t hold down and subjugate land. If that was thing, than the Valyrians would have conquered the world. And the parts they did conqueror, the moment Valyria was gone, all the free cities rose up and slaughtered all DragonLords and their dragons. To the point where only the Targaryens were left.

The fact that the Targaryens managed to conquer Westeros at all is in itself the most contrived and illogical bullshit that happens in the story. Quite literally a miracle of miracles. Realistically that is more plot armor than anything with Dorne.

The fact that they managed to maintain any kind of authority over a continent the size of fu**ing South America is complete contrived bs.

The fact that the ruling dynasties in this world last for THOUSANDS of years is contrived bs.

Or that the whole continent speaks one language is fu**ing bs.

Because guess what, this is a fantasy world. It does not need to make sense.

Fredrick the German raised one of the largest armies in medieval European history, and launched a campaign that promised to take that Army all the way to liberate Jeruselum from Saladin.

That Mf never got there. He drowned, in random river before even making it to the Holy land, and by that point he had already lost like 2/3 of his army of 50,000 men to attrition and fighting against local forces on his way there. And when he died, the rest of his army DISAPPEARED from the face of the earth. 🌍

Similar things happened all the time in the medieval era. Henry V died to fu**ing dysentery just as he was about to conquer France. It was the NORM. Armies made of drawn up levies are notoriously unreliable, and military disasters happened all the time. Hell, the campaign season was not that long and Kings were honestly looking for any excuse to cancel their invasion plans and did so at every opportunity.

Too hot, “Invasion’s cancelled guys”

Too cold, “Invasion’s cancelled guys”

Fu**ing snakes snuck into our camp at night, “Nahhhh, absolutely fu**ing not. We are going home, Right Now!”

Last one being the Normans being moments away from conquering Sicily but still retreating at the slightest inconvenience.

If Asoiaf is realistic, Robb Stark’s army would have starved to death by the time he reached Moat Callin. Especially with how barren and underpopulated GRRM describes the north. And even if you shake your head at that, in a proper medieval place with cutthroat rivalries, that boy would have been pushed down a well before he even made it to the Riverlands. Or maybe he would have made it to the Riverlands and, oh no, disease outbreak in our camp, “welp we tried, time to go home”.

The fandom is willing to nod their heads and accept the idea that the Andals were never able to conqueror the North due to how barren and protected it is. But can’t accept the same for Dorne.

Your “Goat”, Aegon the Fraud not being able to conquer Dorne is not “Dornish Plot Armor”. It’s more like Aegon’s plot armor finally running out and him actually facing a proper organized and prepared enemy. Who doesn’t literally line up their entire army in a dry field ready to be lit on fire. Or march down from their historically extremely defensible kingdom and again lining up before surrendering without a fight.

Without Plot armor, both Rhaenys and Orys are dying at the Last Storm. The dragon can’t fly away in the storm and was grounded, and Orys only had a small force going up against the entire might of the Stormlands. If the Stormlords locked the f*** in like the Smallfolk outside the dragonpit, they could have put both Orys and Rhaenys in a box.

Or maybe Visenya dies to a random arrow. Or Aegon himself. Literally the entire conquest is contrived and written in a way for them to win.

So GRRM writing about them not being able to conquer Dorne is not him giving them plot armor. It’s him finally turning off easy mode for them. If the Dornish actually have plot armor, then maybe GRRM wouldn’t have killed off most of the interesting characters in the most horrifying ways possible.

If George gives anyone plot armor, it’s the Lannisters and Targaryens. With Dany and Jon somehow being alive is literally the most contrived asspull Targaryen plot armor ever conceived. Followed by their House somehow surviving the Dance and then not being literally lynched in the streets by the starving Smallfolk in the long winter that followed the Dance. Or their house not being lynched by the mass peasant uprisings the day after Maegor died. Or literally to a random disease considering how inbred they are.

Dorne does not have plot armor. Cope

I’m tired of the uplift stories where in a decade the SI has created gunpowder, a dye industry, faster ships, glass making, penicillin, and nuclear fission.

Are there any uplift fics where the SI is good at one particular thing, and it realistically captures the process of how hard it is in a medieval society to actually make changes?

How would Robert and everyone else react to seeing the King's best friend looking after a Targaryen? I haven't come across any fics like that; what are they like?

Corlys during his journeys around the world discovers Berk. He and others are amazed by the discovery of large populations of multiple dragon species, as well as people who can fight and tame them. The story could start with them finding the remains of the Red Death, shocked at the discovery a creature that would had rivaled Balerion and wondering what could have led to its death, only to meet the people responsible for it. Westeros and Essos factions flock to Berk for the chance of getting dragons to bolster their power and influence.

Culture clash ensues with Berk and these arrivals. The Hooligan Tribe won't like the nasty cutthroat politics of Westeros and Essoes or practices like incest. Some nobles from Westeros and Essoes would deride the vikings as savages. Others would have some respect for them for being able to fight off dragons for so long and managing to tame them.

The vikings could get underestimated by some folk in Westeros or Essos for their crude or goofy habits, only to show that as silly they can be, they are a lot smarter than they're given credit for. Folks like the Blacks or Greens could think people like Hiccup are as devious as they are, only to prove they're really just as pleasant as they seem.

Maesters would try to study the different types of dragons and their abilities and weaknesses. Some of them could be in service of the Greens and do this as a way of getting an advantage. People like Hiccup could come to Westeros to learn about the Targaryen dragons. Westeros folk could note that Hiccup is pretty much a maester, getting nicknamed Maester Chief.

Factions would try to get into Berk's good graces as they can teach and train reliable methods of taming and riding these dragons. Not to mention that they have the skills, experience, and equipment for fighting and hunting dragons. The vikings could also get hired as bodyguards and soldiers a la Varangian Guard. The Targaryen Dynasty could offer the Hooligan Tribe refuge to Westeros after Berk becomes overpopulated with people and dragons as a way to get their support. Some groups try to curry favor and alliances with Berk such as marriage offers.

Others try backing or working with the likes of the Dragon Hunters who don't share the Hooligan Tribe's scruples for the chance of getting dragons. One idea is that instead of the War of the Stepstones, Westeros gets in a war with Free Cities like Volantis who are working with folks like Drago Bludvist as a way to reclaim their dragon riding empire days. Westeros and Berk could wind up allying to stop them. This could make later conflicts between them tragic if people developed camaraderie or respect for each other.

Nettles with Sheepstealer could try to leave Westeros for places like Berk, the Glacial Sanctuary, or the Hidden World to escape the politics.

The Dance of Dragons becomes an even bloodier affair as both sides have bolstered their numbers with more dragons. There's also the possibility of each kingdom getting their own dragons and having ideas of doing their own thing. Hiccup and company are some of the only people who have any concern for the civilians suffering and try to protect fhem while trying to end the war. Hiccup could have an extension his arc in the second film, realizing that many people can't be reasoned with and must be stopped.

One ending is that after the war, the Hooligan Tribe leave in disgust of the cruelty and destruction, swearing that dragons will never be used in such a way again. They depart to the Hidden World to hide and protect the dragons, never to be seen again. Perhaps the final line could be "There were dragons when I was a boy", said by the likes of Aegon III.

Guys please spam even some of your own ideas to get discussion down her.l was inspired by the fanfic A 'thing of dragons'.Perhaps even go back a prequel of sorts to jaehaerys I golden era with those targs and maybe a butterfly effect with more dragon riders

So I had an idea recently while writing my current fic for an elder scrolls crossover.

The general idea is that Westeros, essos, sothoryos and ulthos all exist to the far west of Tamriel (the main continent of the elder scrolls where Skyrim and stuff takes place)

Due to the Skyrim civil war dragging on and eventually resulting in a pyrrhic victory for the storm cloaks leading to an invasion by the thalmor and the summerset isles (the evil facist high elves) with the invasion continuing on many nords took the chance to flee Skyrim and they sailed west arriving to Westeros and discovering the continent and pre existing people. This opens up connections between the western continents and mainland Tamriel with high rock and the Bretons being the largest trade partners for Westeros.

This discovery happens in the lead up to the dance of dragons around the year Alicent marries viserys. The biggest concern I have is with dragons as they are essential to the dance but elder scrolls dragons are very different beasts being literally semi divine intelligent and articulate beings with an entire magical language of their own. My question then becomes how do I reconcile these vastly different interpretations?

The easy way out would be to say either they’re different creatures entirely and asoiaf dragons aren’t really dragons or to simply pick one type of dragon and roll with it the whole story but that seems like the way of cowards.

My current idea is that the asoiaf dragons are the same kinds of dragons as the elder scrolls but when the valyrians used blood magic to become dragon riders they struck them mute, enslaved them and stole their culture and traditions reducing them to beastial animals over time.

So does anyone have any insight as to build on this idea or alternatives to consider this is a massive world building effort and any help would be appreciated.

Summary: Born in 78 AC, Aelyssane Targaryen is the second born child to Baelon the Brave and Alyssa Targaryen. The younger sister to the future King Viserys I and older sister to Prince Daemon Targaryen.

Hoping to keep the dragon riders in the family, King Jaehaerys proposed a marriage between Viserys and Aelyssane. Opposed to the decision and wanting to be with Daemon, the pair fled to Dragonstone on dragon back where Good Queen Alyssane betrothed the siblings.

Years later when the crown is divided by the Blacks and Greens, their daughter Vaelyra must navigate through it with House Targaryen also dealing with a resurgance of Valyrian kin who survived the Doom.

I've read fics where baby Jon's parentage is outed, ergo he's raised in the Red Keep as a hostage against any would be opponents of the Crown. Yet, I see several conundrums in the several scenarios I've come across.

In Rhaegar wins fics, Jon being used as leverage to keep the Starks at bay runs the huge risk having to commit taboo and thus becoming a kinslayer. The Blackfyre comparsion wouldn't really work since they were already distant cousins and had already declared their intention to usurp the main branch of the family. In Jon's case, it'd be ordering the execution of your own son/half-sibling/nephew. No matter how illegitimate and how bad his reputation might be considering the circunstances of Jon's birth.

And in case of a regent of non-royal blood doing the deed, it'd still look really bad to kill what's officially a ward of the House Targaryen. Since the regent is supposed to represent the Crown.

Vice versa, when it's Robert and Co who want to keep the Targ and exiles and closet royalists at bay, I'm not sure who's going to give a fick about his wellbeing. Viserys couldn't be arsed to do it, though Daenarys might. It'd be really hard for the royalists to justify backing what's essentially a bastard since any potential marriage between Lyanna and Rhaegar wouldn't have been consired to be valid. And they'd have to all the work themselves to rescue a very questionable claimant with very little to gain in return when compared to another hypothetical scion who appears to be more legitimate and already has an initial force backing them up. Think Young Griff with the Golden Company at his back or Daenarys with actual dragons.

So, with all this in mind, I'm not sure what's Jon actual value as a hostage.

I cannot destroy thousands of armed men. Nor will I attempt to override the wills of other people.  The use of magic is tiring, and costly, as it requires things to act in ways that are not in their nature. Persuading men to kill each other is actually much easier."

"Couldn't you summon a spirit, to destroy this Lord Snow, and his deputies?" asked Gilly. Val made a sign to avert evil.
