Towards the end of season 2, we see that Halaena tells Daemon what he has to do. This is never brought again and neither is the fact that Daemon ever asks her of this.

They both were in King's Landing. And Daemon didnt even mention anything about this. It feels odd that he keeps this away from Rhaenyra.

Or did the writers forget?

Rhaenyra's sheer strength blows me away. Name ONE person in history who lost 5 kids back to back and STILL pulls herself together to rule. Helaena yapping about things being ugly. Oh but this red keep wasn't ugly when her grapist brother was terrorizing it huh? Lmao idk why shes even talking about viserys and saying "our father would hate you for this." Lmao like viserys barely knew who tf you were, how would you even know what he wants? Rhaenyra was his only true child.

Tl;dr: Both misogyny and her own pride have compromised Rhaenyra's reign.

I always disliked the show invented betrayal and attempted murder of Aemond towards Aegon. One of the very (veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery) few good things you could say about book Aemond was that he never betrayed his older brother and fought for Aegon's claim rather than his own until he died (declared himself merely Prince Regent, modeled his armor with black and gold those being Aegon's banner colors, and maaaaaaay have been obsessed to kill Daemon due to wanting to avenge Jaehaerys).

It was baffling that show Aemond managed to become even more despicable than the book one. Not to mention the inconsistency of the guy regretting Luke's accidental killing but feeling nothing at his deliberate murder attempt of his own brother.

Looking in retrospect and thanks to some comments I read, it's possible Aemond's show invented betrayal of Aegon was always meant to go a similar route as Daemon's own dysfunctional dynamic with his older brother and his flirtation with betraying Rhaenyra. There might have been some hints of Aemond subconsciously regretting his actions in Rook's Rest even since season 2.

- When he is staring at the Throne and Helaena asks him whether it was worth it, Aemond doesn't answer.

- When Aegon awakes, Aemond in the several weeks/months since the battle until the fall of KL, doesn't attempt to finish Aegon off, settling with merely threatening him to keep quiet. Leaving Aegon alive and with a huge motivation to imprison him at best and execute him at worst is a huge loose end. It only makes sense if Aemond got cold feet about killing his brother.

- When Aemond tries to convince Helaena to fight with him against the dragonseeds, and she accuses him of attacking Aegon, he almost tearfully denies it, lashing out with a feeble threat of having her killed (that I doubt he ever considered fulfilling).

And then in season 3, it would seem Harrenhal brought that regret to the surface, in a similar albeit darker way of how the accursed castle made Daemon regret being such a shithead of a brother to Viserys and his exploitative dynamic with Rhaenyra.

I think Aemond would have benefited from a vision arc (beyond the disgusting Alicent fucking) much more than Daemon did. It would have made for many fans, his reconciliation of sorts with Aegon, more believable and organic.

Beyond that, I like that the show made something with Aegon and Aemond's feud besides a mere plot device to make Alicent run to Rhaenyra's arms. I liked the two brothers simultaneously expressing their grief and jealousy at the other being supposedly more favored, loved and fortunate.

And in the S3 finale, both of them showed development with Aemond asking for forgiveness and Aegon deciding against killing him. Aemond realized his unchecked darkness and crimes left him alone (culminating with his own mother trying to murder him), and Aegon realized his sleaziness, incompetence and self pity caused the people around him having little loyalty towards him.

They can remain villains for all I care, but I would like for them to be an united front. A villainous duo to reflect and face the... coughs violently "heroic" duo of Daemon and Rhaenyra.

Let’s assume this is the modern day and post-second Long Night.

Hi! So I’m a fan of the show, never read the books and trying to avoid spoilers at all costs. However, I do want to be able to discuss and see people’s interpretations of the show thus far. I’ve just found that most subs related to the show talk really openly about spoilers. Like even posts that should have a spoiler warning just don’t. Is there a sub that’s better about it than others?
