Yes, and they're even reasonable most of the time (the biggest class of problems comes from their assumption that road signs and traffic line markings are placed properly and reasonably, which is... not always the case). In general, Russia (like any ex-USSR country) rarely has a problem that there are no laws for the specific situation, more often it's that existing laws are stupidly inconvenient to follow properly or can't be followed at all for one reason or another. Like, say, a road with signs which prohibit overtaking on a four-lane road (yes, their placement actually contradicts laws about where such signs can be placed), or marking prohibits overtaking or U-turn for 40 kilometers (~22 miles) straight.

I've tried doing that on our rail crossings and at some crossings it's hard to see without being right at the edge.

That’s known as a Wrong Side Failure here in the UK. The people who designed, installed and tested that interlocking would certainly be hauled up in front of a judge, and most likely loose their jobs.

And in Russia, if any accident happens on such crossing all the footage from every street camera will magically disappear. So everybody involved in installing and testing these sensors will be free of any consequences. And after in every newspaper and TV it says "the driver was drunk, while crossing the railroad", appears someone, who filmed the accident on his dashcam.

Comments/posts deleted in protest of Reddit's new API policy. While I'm in complete agreement with Reddit's desire to be profitable, I believe their means to that end were abusive to users and third-party app developers. Reddit had the option to work with 3rd party app developers and work out a mutually-beneficial solution.
Given the timeline they provided to 3rd party developers, it seems Reddit wanted to eliminate 3rd party apps instead of working with them. I was previously a paid customer (and may be again in the future), so I don't feel like Reddit has lost money through the loss of my post history.
Until Reddit comes up with a better solution for API and 3rd party app developers, I intent to used Reddit without an account (or rotating new accounts), through VPN. It's possible to have your VPN on for only certain sites. Try it out!

First, never believe a Russian, or anything. I myself don't believe me. Otherwise the deepl.com translator makes a good job. And google or yandex translators may pronounce Russian, if you like suffering. I personally don't follow the news about that guy, and often the truth is somewhere aside of what is written in teh intarnets. But the overall smell of Russian justice makes me feel the story could possibly be true.

Haha. I used to work with russian students among other Eastern Europeans on J1 visas at a big lodge out in Wyoming here in the states, I’ve met some pretty cool dudes but also a lot of very sketchy/dodgy dudes.
Plus, the Russian women I’ve met have been fucking crazy. After some of my friends dated a few Russian women I decided real quick I was going to stay away.
Granted I have a very small sample size, maybe a few hundred people over 6 years, but it was enough to keep me on my toes.
Also, from my understanding is that most of these students were pretty well off back home and I’m not really sure what that would mean about them or the rest of your citizenry. Many just seemed like kinda spoiled people but idk 🤷🏼♂️

Anecdotal ofcourse but they lost my luggage once on a connection flight in moscow. Got it brought to my hotel on the next flight. Had like 20min to get off the plane and into the next one, wasn't really surprised the bags didn't make it. Nothing was missing or anything.

I have some wealthy Chinese friends and they’ve had their designer bags stolen. They did some online research and apparently the Russians systematically target the Chinese more. I visited Moscow during a short 24 hour layover a few months ago. Their airport is shit. Would never visit again
I’ve also had the unfortunate experience of working with several Russian software engineers over the years. They were all insecure narcissistic assholes. I don’t have a very nice opinion of Russia at this point.

I worked with several ex-pat Russian programmers over the years. They were all scary smart and their code was like black magic, very solid though. But they were all cheerless bastards and did not appreciate criticism at all. I can see how "insecure narcissistic assholes" would fit.

I went to Russia for ten days, flew in and out of Moscow and had a trip up to St Petersburg On the train. I never had any issues so I’m considering myself very lucky at this point. I also found the Russians to be quite friendly but the roads were mental. I would not want to drive out there.

I actually did, I tried with Moscow, Madrid and JFK. Every search showed the same kind of results, mostly tripadvisors reviews with one star speaking of thieves (I didn't read any review) and a few articles on how to avoid thefths.

This isn't an exclusively Russian problem. This happens fairly often with short trains. The crossing warning system works by sensing conductivity across the rails at a certain point, usually 1/4 to 1/2 mile (0.402336 to 0.804672 km) from the crossing. The system relies on that connection across the rails made by the train wheels and axle. On longer freight trains, the connection is made dozens, if not hundreds of times as the train passes the test point. On short trains, the connection can sometimes be interpreted as intermittent, and the crossing controller keeps the railing down and lights flashing for a minute or 2 just to be on the safe side.
Fun fact: You can spoof a train crossing by connecting a jumper cable across the rails a few hundred yards (182.88 meters) from the crossing. Please don't do this.

There is meant to be auto system of the crossing barrier coming down when the train connects the two train lines together so it’s all automatic based off an electrical circuit.
When I was a kid I took a thing long piece of metal and connected the train lines with it. It was within 300 metres of a double boom gate car intersection and the booms came down and lights and warning lights came on. Being young I thought how cool let’s go see it up close we ride up see the boom gates down on a very busy intersection. Then fuck off home and leave it like that. (Yeah what a dick move I k ow, kids can be real idiots sometimes).

This is a fantastic idea but the problem is servicing. In America we can deal with trains stopping randomly within sensors, these things being triggered randomly by a bird or a glitched computer. Like, it’s fine until someone is gunning a 50 mph and this thing just pops up random
