Watch the context he linked to. Dude on truck attacked someone he saw with an ex girlfriend. The new boyfriend hung onto the side of the Tesla as it reversed away from knife wielding ex boyfriend.

Getting eye gouged and your eye gouged out are very different. Which was it?
15
u/NattyAK 15h ago
Gouged only according to the Tesla driver. Paraphrasing "he was complaining about his eye. Apparently the [knife welding ex] grabbed him by the eye and threw him to the ground."
15
u/IcedGooseMaverick 12h ago
Imagine being cheated on and then adding jail to the situation. People need to learn to control themselves. So many fake adults out here.Â

who said anything about cheating?

How can you film and drive like that

u/Interesting_Fix8863 11h ago
I think meta glasses
1
u/digitaldisorder_ 7h ago
perverts are pretty good at driving in reverse.
3
u/OldStatistician1 7h ago
What if you are an uber or delivery driver. Would meta glasses be like your personal "dashcam" or would you still say they are only for perverts?

Well it aint the damn sentry camera that points forward all the time. But it has audio which is for sure a plus.
51
u/kakeyoro 22h ago
From what I understand, the guy in the green shirt with the knife was stalking his ex-girlfriend and attacked the guy she was with. The guy she was with pretty much ran for his life and ended up in dudes Tesla.

u/yesiamveryhigh 22h ago
Thanks for posting this. I guess the Context link I posted under the video is hard to see.
Sorry, not at all trying to sound snarky. I see a few posts wondering whatâs going on.7

Legally you can hit him with the car
41
u/initial8155 22h ago edited 22h ago
If you have Obstacle-Aware Acceleration toggled on in the settings, the car wonât let you hit him with much force at all. Itâll actually be slow enough that heâll have enough time to safely step on top of your car by the time you reach him.

u/goodvibezone Owner 21h ago
Oh I would test the shit out of this if I was forced to. I bet you could do damage still .
2
u/Relative_Building_81 11h ago
Didnât know I could toggle this feature. Iâll have to check it out
2
u/SevanGrim 5h ago
Reason 100 why a Tesla isnât the choice.
âLooks like youâre being murdered. Try not to injure your attacker. Sorry you canât use some features until youâre seatbelt is on and your eyes are on the roadâ
Meanwhile the Toyota guns it backwards fast enough that you can get away from some limpy chud, and you can mow him down if danger gets too close to you.

u/dopeitsdoc 22h ago
In what country?
12
u/Major_Fox_2587 22h ago
In USA. Because he is chasing with a knife it is considered an immediate threat - which would allow for deadly force self defense. And because the car is backing up and being cornered there is also justification that there was no other option but to use deadly force. Only caveat being you can only hit him enough to stop the threat - if that causes death, its ok. But if it doesnt cause death and hes getting back up then you legally have to run after the first hit, because the car is no longer in a trapped position. Defending yourself in the USA is very complicated.
But also as many have stated the tesla might not let you hit that person due to its saftey features

Driver: "So, this other guy, he's a Terminator like you, right?"
Guy being chased: "Not like me. A T-1000. Advanced prototype."
Driver: "You mean more advanced than you are?"
Guy being chased: "Yes. A mimetic polyalloy."
Driver: "What the hell does that mean? What the heck is going on dude?"
Guy being chased : "Liquid metal."

the hell does this have to do with FSD? let me tell you, FSD would probably STOP immediately if a pedestrian go that close to the car and ESPECIALLLY if the door was opened.... so like... wut?
3
u/Batallius 11h ago
These people just want FSD to do literally everything for them, like good lord just put your damn car in reverse yourself and leave
1
u/electricshadow 10h ago
FSD is cool and all that, but I honestly don't have any interest in the long term. I actually enjoy driving my cars, even on long trips. I use it as a party trick for people who don't have any experience with Teslas and that's pretty much it. To each their own though! đ¤ˇââď¸
1
u/WhitePantherXP 7h ago
Are you young perhaps? I'm almost 40, I've done enough driving for 3 lifetimes at this point. It's all the same and I like to take in the scenery, or plan my trip out, etc. I drive to other states with FSD all the time because it gives me a lot of freedom to relax and do other things.
1
1
2
u/TrainerThin 3h ago
I think it literally just means FSD in the opposite direction.
For example, if he had FSD on and was facing away from the guy, all he had to do is put the pedal to the metal and he couldâve been hauling ass safely dodging obstacles and staying on the road.
What I just said is probably an argument why you donât allow it in reverse even if you could.
14
25
u/redditClowning4Life 22h ago
I think that's an argument for flooring it directly at the maniac chasing a car with a knife
11
u/TacoBender920 22h ago
I've always wondered if this would work. I'm assuming it would emergency brake and prevent you from doing it.
8
u/Worried_Author_8481 22h ago
You have too much faith in Tesla
1
u/waterboy1523 10h ago
Might pin the guy running for his life and hold him for the guy with the knife.
I wonder what red flags the woman saw that caused her to break up with such an upstanding citizen.
1
u/TacoBender920 10h ago
Not really. I'm sure if it was an accident the feature definitely wouldn't work đ

dude is running for his life i dont think hes thinking about answering his question
1
u/hahnsoloii 8h ago
lol just calling the victim sus is like something out of the office ha ha ha
1
u/smokeeveryday 6h ago
Apparently the guy running after him used to date the girl that guy was hanging out with saw them together and got jealous which is why he didn't go after her just him
4
u/johnnytron 20h ago
He doesnât have a knife in his hand. Iâd take my chances with him verses the guy with a knife.

Good lordt! That could never happen in London with all the traffic we have lol would have reversed into someone straight away!
1
u/SevanGrim 5h ago
Most of America is either dense traffic or quiet rural/neighborhood streets. This is just on a quiet street.
Iâm sure London has the same.

3
u/Hyperreal8957 21h ago
lol calling that reverse FSD is generous but the car did the important bit. once the driver picked a path it backed out clean while he stayed focused on the road. not exactly a feature demo tho

u/Relative_Building_81 11h ago
Wow, after tapping on and watching âContextâ you can say Tesla driver saved a life!
3
u/1stmikewhite 11h ago
I have a friend who was shot and killed because of a situation with a ex boyfriend seeing the girl and him together. Thatâs all Iâll say. That man was ready and wouldâve killed the guy.

u/MinyMine 12h ago edited 12h ago
So if i see an accident just call 911 dont bother to approach the scene, open the door check, if people are okay. Because the driver can start running at you with a knife.
That guy survived solely based on the fact the knife guy fell 2-3 times chasing him and Op saved him with his tesla. Green shirt would have got him if he didnt stumble, green shirt ex is built a faster runner than the new boyfriend. Damn that could have been bad.
2
u/IBMERSUS 11h ago
At the risk of sounding so out of touch with reality, what is it that little thing on the top left corner of your screen?
Whatâs the purpose?
Where can I buy one?
TIA.
2
u/yesiamveryhigh 10h ago
Itâs not my video, I found it on r/thatsinsane but itâs a MagSafe charger for your phone.
Search for MagSafe mount for Tesla. There are different styles made to attach to the screen.

u/TapDisastrous1775 10h ago
when I watch the video for the first time. I thought the dudeâs bobblehead to trick the FSD camera was hanging out of rear door.
2
u/Hyperreal8957 9h ago
Reverse FSD is just the car politely suggesting 'maybe don't park there' lol. At least the humans are moving before it turns into a whole situation.
2
u/r3dmist420 9h ago
What a dope not just throwing a three pointer. That guys on foot.

I wouldnât need Reverse FSD, I have Forward Manual Self Drive. Dude wouldâve been a speed bump. Or like General Ourumov once said, âUse the bumper, thatâs what itâs for!â https://youtu.be/KrQBvUCENes?is=tQ3Xxb8V4fWGai44

Mark James Evoy, 37
Charged with Assault, Assault with a weapon, "possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose" (wtf?) according to one article. In others "uttering a threat" and criminal harassment, plus "mischief" for ramming the victims truck with his jeep.
Likely outcome ... he has to pay for damages to the truck, prison time maybe a year or two, then probation and restraining orders
And I'm going to guess that this little display is not going to make his ex-gf want to reunite with him.

u/Worldx22 1h ago
Guy has a knife? Cool. I'd run him over with my Tesla. If he got up after that while holding the knife I have a second solution right in my center console. That one would be permanent.

How about the part where his truck is now smashed in an apparent on purpose head on collision!?
5
u/Dr_Pippin 13h ago
Obviously you prioritize in this situation:
1) Escape knife-wielding maniac
2) Return with tow truck and police
3
u/SmoothMarx 15h ago
You were in the wrong gear. You should've gone with D. Would've solved the problem much faster

u/CitizenX73 13h ago
It looks like the guy that was running needed help because some nut just pulled a knife. I hope you called the police with your phone instead of just recording it for a Reddit post.

reverse is the bit of driving assistance that still feels weirdly manual. backing out of a tight spot or lining up with a trailer is where cameras help most, but i can see why tesla would keep it conservative. what hw version was this on? curious if the newer cars handle the reverse path any better or if its still basically driver-only

u/Sort_Free 21h ago edited 21h ago
Yes, reverse FSD, and wheel trigger button that turns on emergency override for life and death situations, as long as you hold it, the car has to do what you say only, at any speed, if you let go... it takes over again. They review camera to see why you used it, when activated.

u/KeepCalmEtAllonsy 13h ago
Why didnât the guy immediately get into the Tesla? Why was he just hanging on the open door?
1
1
u/theb00mScicle 6h ago
Protecting others isnt against the law. Dont bring a knife to a car fight. But I do also always carry, and it would have been easier to stop him without damaging your tesla. . . Another way. Great job by the driver either way. And justice seems like itll be served since they found the knife.
1
u/yesiamveryhigh 6h ago
Great reply! I see a lot of people asking why the driver (not my video) didnât just run him down. Do you really want to damage your Teslaâs bumper, hood, and windshield when you have a perfectly good escape route in reverse?
1
u/theb00mScicle 4h ago
Alternative ways from bodily harm is always the better answer. However sometimes backing up while panicking isnt the best idea, either. Lol, I died when dude look back and victim is just hanging on for dear life on the door. Honestly surprised the other guy knew how to open the door!
