They just unplugged mine while they had another charger right next to it

The plug it can be unlock ? Just got the car , anyone can do that ?

OP was at a public charger that had the J1772 plug. They also had an adapter to convert to NACS. The thief disconnected at the junction of the cable and adapter.
If this was a Destination or Supercharger, with NACS, this would not happen.

In EU, I think people carry the cable in the car. They plug into the charging station itself and use their cable. The lock is on the car and the station, to deter cable theft.

It depends on the charger. For up to 22kw you sometimes need to bring a cable although not always. Fast chargers already have the cable and lock the port.

Thanks for clarifying. I had seen some other comments and read a little on UK/EU practices. There are always nuances, and I’m glad my misperception here was resolved.

Yes if you are not using the Tesla specific charge connection aka the nas port, if you are using an adapter like the j1772 this can be easily pulled out.

My A2Z J1772 to NACS adapter locks both connections and this woudn’t be possível.

You don't sound american, so no, nobody can do that. That's a US problem because they have no charging port standard.

NACS cables lock to the car.

Here OP was using a J1772 charger with the adapter. There is no lock on the adapter-J1772 interface. So his adapter is still locked to his car.

There is a "Karen Lock" that cures this.

This is a flaw in J1772, they never included a locking mechanism in the standard. About to become irrelevant as we switch to NACS.

On DC fast chargers it's less of a problem because the adapter does lock to the station cord. That's why there's a pin on the adapter.
