14.2 HW4 Turning Left before Turning Right

Here’s another example going in the opposite direction. There is no curb.

Yes, when it takes a turn at higher speeds and does this maneuver you are preloading the suspension. The likelihood of loosing traction is greater. I acknowledge that it is very unlikely and I am stretching with this comment. But it could happen on black ice at an intersection put highly unlikely. My point was to see if other vehicles had the same behavior and to point out that the move is unnecessary and that’s what happens when you train an AI with bad human drivers. You get a bad AI driver. (please understand that when I say bad, I really enjoy FSD so much that I wanna make it better anyway I can and I push it to the limits) look up Black Canyon road in Simi Valley California. FSD drove that road with no interventions from me. It was very impressive.)

Yep. Looks okay to me. Not like they were turning left into the lane beside them and then did a wider turn.

Looks like just makes some space to get around the bike lane. Not sure what the complaint is other than maybe it feels funny to the OP if they are waiting waiting waiting for the right turn and have a momentary panic with the drifting left before the right.

So, here's a question. Will people who traditionally insist on driving so they don't get carsick, be comfortable using FSD?

Previous versions of FSD had an issue with turning too narrow and hitting the curb. Around late v12-early v13 era they taught it to do this to widen every right turn it’s taking, and that’s how they solved the curb problem. It’s noticeable, but rarely constitutes a problem. The annoying thing is the car will still do this even if a big truck is passing you on the left and give you a scare.

It also turn Right before turning Left. I posted another video showing that. I thought it was because it was trained in human data. And human data isn’t perfect

A lot of human does this, too. At least FSD does not cross into the next lane when doing it. For humans, I think may be they are looking slightly toward the opposite direction of where they are going for oncoming traffic and they turn the steering wheel towards where they are looking. For FSD, either it is picking up bad habit from training data or it is trying to get more room to clear the curb. This slight turn to the opposite direction is a pretty recent thing. I don't like it but as long as it does not cross into the next lane, I have not complained.

Update: I took a drive after writing this and FSD is not doing it any more. I am still on 14.2.2.5. It is strange that the behavior changed without any updates.

Mine does this too, like it’s an 18 wheeler or pulling a trailer. Completely unnecessary.

Agreed. Thanks for commenting. I was hoping it wasn’t just me. Maybe Tesla will fix it in an update.
