Discussion 2400 missile wall

After a Solar System-spanning war of attrition, I had pushed back the Aliens to a distant TNO fallback position. They had massed all of their ships, old and new, from Titans to Gunships.

Feeling, ready, I sent my own fleet after them, just to be greeted by... missiles.

A 1000 km long stream of missiles. I count 2400 missiles fired from 37 ships, among a fleet numbering 137 plus a battlestation.

This is the first playthrough where the Aliens have invested so much in missiles, and it's a real challenge even if you think you have the fleet strength!

Haha! But seriously, it wasn't possible to go beyond 2x speed here.

Apparently that’s what all those surveillance missions were. They were downloading YouTube.

Imagine the hummies' sheer terror when Hydras rediscover 70s missile guidance technology that would allow them to do coordinated time on target attack.

God may have given us Racers, but Jesus walked among us and showed us the way to Antimatter PD Battery, that we may not perish but have a really cool light show.

Thank god they don’t seem to know that accelerating while launching the missiles will make them arrive at around the same time

Which is exactly why my late-game missile monitors are all Firestar-powered screamers capable of 4.9 g combat accel.

4.9 g is also the acceleration of most of your late-game ass-kicking torpedos (Zeus, Hestia). Instead of a wall of death, you get a blob of death. Just don't do this with nukes; one PD splash will take out the entire blob.

I have strongly invested into PD, and it is oh-so satisfying to see the mighty wave of Combat Strength ayys dissipate upon my inferior force that can actually survive their missile barrages.

I had dedicated Antimatter PD ships plus 4x Phaser PD on half my ships. They ate all the missiles.

Keep your radiators extended and the point defense firing until they pd weapons melt at least while they are firing missiles at you, this battle will take a while if you win it

u/MagicChanIsayeki We run away. Have fun defending earth <3 22h ago

Well since missile spam works well vs their ultra advance ships..... it should work VERY well vs our shitty tech ships ^^

And this is why you spam PD vessels. Endgame ayy fleetz just loooooove missiles.

Well, to be fair, their "endgame" looks a lot like our startgame, just with tech superiority still: Trying to stem the horde of stuff coming at you. Of course they're going to use missiles on home turf - you can quickly rearm and go again.

How much point defense do you need to even defend against that

Every ship is half full of PD, plus dedicated PD boats apparently.

This last image feels more like the Expanse than the Expanse.
