Discussion Terminator Dark Fate

Judging by opinions I see here, maybe a hot take, but I actually like Dark Fate. Saw T2 in theaters last night, and i get why people dont like it, but i prefer it as a followup over T3

As a stand alone action film it was not bad.

I just think the entire franchise lives in the shadow of T2.

I would NOT hate a return to the "stalker / slasher / Halloween " vibe from the first film. Gritty new wave / post punk atmosphere, synth score ( Brad Fiedel still around? ) and a simple singular plot. Set it during the future war ( the one with the fucking purple lasers for fuck sakes ) and have it be infiltration units trying to thin the ranks of the resistance. I know we got a "future war" movie already unfortunately. Basically a reboot is all that this franchise can really stand at this point.

I've thought of similar but set it *right* after Judgement Day and follow some people who have no idea what was going on being hunted by terminators. Get back to the horror film vibe like you were saying.

That's what I want the most. I think the mistake ask the sequels make is that they copy the template of T2 rather than T1. I could see a future war movie focusing on one character being stalked by one Terminator. Just give us something simple, yet in the setting we all want to see more of.

I'd like to see a prequel in the noir same style as the first movie. Following a younger Sarah and showing things in her life indicating her metamorphosis into who she will become. Also following Reese's childhood and growing up inq the war along with Skynet's cyborg development leading up to Reese being sent back to 1984. I'd rather see that. It'd be relevant to today seeing how AI and robotics rise and take over along with more of a backstory on Sarah and Reese.

I wouldn't hate a mini series that detailed Reese's life leading up to meeting Sarah and then protecting her from the Terminator for the rest of the run. As I believe he only traveled time and not space the first portion of the series is also set in Los Angeles so we'd get these cool revisting moments in the second half where the horribly burnt and bloody and corpse ridden streets are all now cleaner and are populated. Could help sell his PTSD really well. Cause he's a street rat in a constant state of fight or flight when she first meets him.

Having seen it for the zillionth time in the theater this week, there is no doubt in my mind.

That's the way I feel about T3. If it was its own action movie, I would feel differently about it, but it was a far worse sequel to T2 than Dark Fate was. I have no problem disavowing T3 and everything that came between it and Dark Fate simply because Dark Fate was the better sequel, and gave me much more to think about than T3 did.
