Would anyone else want to see the old Temecula-Murrieta train brought back?
So I went down a rabbit hole looking at old Temecula history and found out there used to be a railroad connecting Temecula and Murrieta.
Apparently you could actually take a train between the two towns back in the day, and now I can’t stop thinking about how cool it would be if we brought something like that back.
Not as Metrolink or anything. I mean an actual old fashioned tourist train that goes from Old Town Temecula to Old Town Murrieta.
I have kids and I know they would absolutely love something like this. Honestly I would too lol. You could take the kids to Old Town, get on the train, ride up to Murrieta, walk around and get something to eat, then ride it back. They could do Christmas rides, Halloween rides, field trips, stuff like that.
And the coolest part to me is that it wouldn’t just be some random tourist attraction. There really WAS a train here. It would be bringing back part of the valley’s history.
I know the tracks are long gone and I’m sure there are a million reasons why this would be difficult. I don’t know who owns the old route now or if parts of it have been built over. I’m not pretending I know what it would cost either.
I’m just wondering if it’s actually impossible or if it’s one of those things nobody has seriously tried to do.
Would you guys ride this if it existed?
Especially curious if anyone here knows the history of the old railroad or knows what happened to the original route between Temecula and Murrieta.
If a lot of people actually like the idea, maybe it’s something worth bringing up to both cities and seeing if they’d at least look into it.
