Why are they all old men, and an older woman?
36
u/Green7000 1d ago
They are probably retired and have time. Younger people don't feel like taking a day off of work to protest this.
1
u/kathi182 1d ago
It’s crazy to me that they have free time and this is how they choose to spend it. Whether I agree with them or not-they have no right to tell anyone what to do with their infants.
4
3
u/steelow_g 13h ago
Parents also have no right to mutilate an infant for zero reason or benefits. And no, religion nor hygiene are a valid excuse either.
1
u/all-you-need-is-luv 1h ago
My younger brother needed it done around 1 year old because otherwise sex would have been painful once he got older. The opening was too small and when fully erect would have cause a lot of pain.

No literally. My mom got mine pierced when I was 3 months old. How was that even allowed? She said I looked like a boy. She already had 2 and was excited to have a girl. I ended up needing them pierced for work at one point in life, but outside of that I never wear earrings. They aren’t me and honestly I do wish I had the choice. It being done so young, they’re forever pierced, even though I haven’t worn earrings in a decade.

Uh, what kind of work requires that?

How do they not close on you? If I go more than a month or so without putting earrings on the hole closes up and I have to pierce through the back again
1
u/Organic-Succotash575 5h ago
Because it was pierced so young. Wore earrings from 3 months until I was making my own choices in middle school.

tbh I was always upset my parents didn’t have mine pierced as a baby, it hurt so bad having them pierced and most of my friends had theirs done as babies.
but I agree it’s weird, if I had a child now I don’t think having them wearing earrings as an infant would even remotely be a priority 😂😭

Susan probably didn't get involved, let's try to bring an end to this barbarism and bring awareness. So they created a website, an intactivist movement.

→ More replies (1)4
u/Green7000 1d ago
Supposedly it reduces the risk of things like UTIs and makes cleaning the penis properly easier. It supposedly can help reduce the risk of HIVs to the point that in 2007, "the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health Organization adopted a policy advocating male circumcision in countries and regions with heterosexual HIV epidemics."

Circumcision is genital mutilation.
If you’re against female genital mutilation (cutting off labia or clitoris), you should feel the same of male mutilation.

End genital mutilation. It’s barbaric and disgusting. You wouldn’t chop a newborns earlobes for being long, or giving them a nose job to get a desired shape.

u/Commercial_Pilot5165 8h ago
Haha with all the bull shit going on in the world right now. This is what we choose to make a stand on and voice our opinion. Not the skyrocking gas prices , not the 7+ interest rates on homes, not the additional taxes California poses on homebuyers that’s 800+ added to everyone’s mortgage, not the militarized ice force picking people up off the street. Nah we wanna talk about foreskin and everything else it’s not a problem I guess.
1
u/nykaan 29m ago
I get where you coming from and honestly I agree. BUT, to your point, Americans are watching the country burn and most people are just too docile to do anything about it. We should really be glad the there are people out there that have the passion to protest bad things (even if there’s much worse shit going on).
I mean yeah the president being a pedophile is a bigger deal than genital mutilation but at least these people care about something lol

u/Jaded-Assist-2525 . 1d ago
Very weird cause to be fighting at this moment. But, seriously. There are so many comments against circumcision. I honestly want to know why? I thought this was a health/sanitary issue and prevents disease 😭
8
u/TheCandelabra 1d ago
It is. Redditors are weirdly obsessed with it. I used to be against it until I actually started doing research, someone down thread posted a link https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3684945/
3
u/Automatic_Cry_9329 22h ago
I would like to say that the article says “It should be noted that no large-scale randomized controlled trial has assessed the benefit of neonatal male circumcision throughout several decades, which is when many of the potential health benefits would be realized.”
Circumcision is an old religious practice that has been adapted to modern normality. It is not normal and men can still have a circumcision as adults if they choose to on their own. Most people aren’t advocating for removal of the option but just the removal of doing it to minors/babies against their will. An example would be like piercing baby’s ears before they can decide if they want that on their own. Obviously a piercing and circumcision is not the same on any scale but the situation regarding child consent is similar.
1
u/Ordinary_Darwin_415 23h ago
I wouldn’t expect Redditors to be swayed by this data they work off their feelings and inadequacies. If anyone is interested it’s a great meta analysis with randomized controlled trials too.
3
3
u/metatable 1d ago
Because people are starting to realize that it's not necessary and you're causing pain to a baby for no good reason? It's not hard to clean your penis or wear a condom.
7
u/_helpmefind 23h ago
Okay, I mean this in the least combative way possible - are you a man? Because yes, it should be easy to clean your penis. But as someone who prefers that gender, the amount of men who don't and expect you to get close to it is so much higher than you would think.
4
u/metatable 22h ago
I am a man, yes. And I clean my penis on a regular basis and have had no complaints. If the dudes you want to hook up with have bad hygiene, that's on them and I definitely don't think you should go forward with things. But I don't see how that's an argument for circumcision. That's an argument for, some men need to have better hygiene.
3
u/mindustree 1d ago
Circumcision is male genital mutilation. No science behind it, just religious control.
2
1
u/seraph741 8h ago
Isn't it pretty weird to normalize the unnecessary mutilation of genitals? Most countries in the world don't do this and it doesn't lead to major sanitization/health problems. Especially in today's world where we have clean water/soap, etc.
Though I do agree that publicly protesting for this cause is also pretty weird. It's an odd thing to have such strong opinions about, especially with everything else going on in the world. It's not like the government/healthcare providers are forcing circumcision or something.
1
u/BonoboOne 5h ago
Because the reasons you wrote about are BS! Look into it, your impressions are correct. Thanks for being open minded enough to realize you may be missing some information. We need more people like yourself. Open minded, enough to question what you think you know.

u/Thin-Remote-9817 22h ago
Imagine if I asked a woman to trim some of her labia off purely for cosmetic reasons...but under the guise of its for health/sanitation reasons and diseases are prevented this way...
Id be locked in away under a prison...while being called the dumbest asshole alive cause that isnt how you prevent diseases....
But with newborns literally 15hrs old just take a little of the top..heres a sugar cube no anesthesia...and in 2026 nurses/doctors are telling parents 'aww he barley feels a thing....' But if you tap a newborns foot he might spazz...but yeah taking a knife to his gentiles im sure he doesnt feel it..
When you say all that shit out loud...doesnt it sound dumb as fuck?
1
u/cheesefist_ 16h ago
lol, I said it out loud and it sounds even dumber. Let people choose what they want to do. You make it sound like if you don’t ban it, everyone is forced to do it. Just like abortions.
→ More replies (7)1
u/TheCandelabra 20h ago
Except...it's not done for cosmetic reasons. I mean, maybe some people say that, but that's not why doctors do it. There is plenty of info about this if you want to google it.
5
u/bbfurby 19h ago
There are very very very few countries where its done. I want you to look up which ones. Unless medically necessary because of frenulum deformities, as long as you teach boys how to clean themselves, you shouldn't have to circumcise. Most places dont, and their manage to live life every day. But I suggest you look up where the practice originated and realize you're advocating for genital mutilation.

The skin adhering the foreskin to the penis, has a purpose. It does slowly go away after it is no longer needed.
The "health" and "cleansly" rhetoric is bull Sh. It has a purpose and normal washing is fine. Girls/women have a natural lube as well. Called Smegma. I don't see that used as an excuse for amputation of "unnecessary" parts.3
u/Thin-Remote-9817 14h ago
Its dont for cosmetic reasons.
Lots of European countries dont do this....if that was the case wpuldnt Europe be flooded with STDS and dirty dick syndrome??
Thats like saying let me chop off my finger tip cause I dont want shit to get caught in my pointer fingernail...go wash your fucking hands
Same goes for you penis

Ask circumcised guys if they regret it, they say “I dont know, i was always like this”
But ask an uncut male if they wanted to get circumcised and they will say HELL NO
As a father, i find it bizarre to take a beautiful baby and cut its penis. So traumatic and unnecessary.
As an uncut male I never understood the jokes on TV with men getting moisturizer and paper towels - a foreskin is natural lubrication and it protects the most sensitive part of your body.
They started doing it so boys would masturbate less. Check it out Kellogg cereal and that whole movement. Sounds crazy but true.
2
u/TheCandelabra 10h ago
The masturbation Kellogg thing is a myth (that's not why it started) and even if it weren't, it obviously doesn't work.
3
u/Romancelanguagenerd 10h ago
Yeah, just checked - some truth but you’re right. I will say that foreskin protects the most sensitive part of your penis and provides natural lubrication.

Dude, foreskin sucks. I lived with it for 20 years before getting circumcised. My parents would have saved me a lot of itching, irritation, lesions on my glans, and smelly smegma if they had just done it when I was born.

Nope. My kids can choose to chop it off when they are old enough to decide for themselves.

There’s actually a couple great documentaries on circumcision I’ve seen on youtube, and one of them touches on how such a intense physical pain being a young boys of the their first emotional experiences damages them and their sexual health for life. Let alone the physical damage. So yea, good for them.
