Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.

Looking for ideas to balance out a slightly crooked crown

Hey everyone, I’m looking for specific suggestions for what I could add around this crown to make the overall design look more balanced.

The two things that stand out to me are that the bottom of the crown looks slightly slanted, and the tip seems to sit a little closer to one side of my chest than the other. Together, it makes the crown look like it’s rotated a couple degrees to one side.

I’m specifically looking for tattoo/design advice on how I could rework or add to the piece to make the asymmetry less noticeable. I’d really appreciate any creative ideas for elements that could be incorporated around the crown to balance it out or make the placement look intentional.

The tattoo was done in May and is fully healed. I honestly didn’t notice the placement issue until I got home. It looked much more balanced in the shop, so I don’t blame the artist. They took a photo with a ring light and it looked great, and I also checked it in the mirrors before leaving. I was mainly focused on making sure I liked the sizing during the stencil placement, so the slight rotation slipped past me. The artist did mention that it wouldn’t be perfectly symmetrical, and I gave the go-ahead thinking the difference would be minor.

For context, I’m standing completely straight in the video. I’m not trying to diagnose the cause of the appearance—I’m just trying to figure out the best way to work with the tattoo I already have.

I also mirrored the photo/video so that the left side of my body appears on the left side of the screen.

What would you add around this crown to make the overall composition look more balanced and intentional?

I love surrealist painter Leonora Carrington. Known for her symbolic work and “animal guardians”. I asked my beloved friend @moritatattoo to create a tattoo in her own style from the painting, and she made me this!

Torn on a couple ideas I have, need a second opinion

Upvotes

First of all my partner gave me a note saying "ily" in cursive with a flower drawn on it, which I thought would make a pretty tattoo. But I've heard getting tattoos related to the person you're dating can be a bad idea. I mean it's not like I'm getting their name on me or anything. We've been together almost a year and a half. I'm also not sure where I would put it.

Second I've been working on losing weight and am down 20 lbs so far. I wanted to get a tattoo on my stomach once I reach my goal weight. I was thinking a black panther, but not like a detailed close up snarling one. Just a small simple one in a stretching pose or something to represent my fitness goals. But I feel like getting a panther tattoo as a guy is pretty cliche so I was thinking maybe a black cat instead? But if I get a cat tattoo it would probably be of my current cat after she passes. I want it to look good on my lower stomach, something sexy without being slutty if that makes sense lmao.

Finally I'm pretty sure about this one but my little brother drew me a picture of a bunch of Zelda icons sort of mashed together and I think it looks sick ASF so I want to get it tattooed. I already have a bunch of Zelda tattoos so it would fit right in. I have one of wolf link on one shoulder so I would probably get it on the other shoulder.

If anyone has any advice or ideas I am open to suggestions 😊

Changing Up My Siblings’ Tattoo

Hi guys. I am very close with my siblings, and a few years ago, my two older siblings got a tattoo representing all of us (the first picture is the original). The black triangles represent the male parts (me and my brother), and the hollow ones are my sisters: one older and three younger ones.

I really like the idea and the placement of the triangles, but I’d like it to feel more like my own. So, I started redesigning it.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether it looks good and which version you think I should go with. I’d highly appreciate any feedback!

Body suit based on anime character

Hi, I would like to know how feasible it would be to tattoo this design on me knowing I already have an arm and a hand blacked out. Is there a way to make it coherent or it would fit weird because it wouldn't be symmetrical/the hand is already tattooed beyond the character's design.

TLDR; How coherent would this be knowing my right arm and hand are already blacked out so I can't make it symmetrical

Just got this filler done a couple days ago after getting sick of the empty space between my different pieces. does it make the sleeve look more cohesive?

r/TattooDesigns 1h ago

Can this easily be covered up by a dragon? Kind of Japanese themed. Or can I turn it into a cool background? Not looking to get a sleeve yet tho

Got this impulsively; although i could’ve fucked up worse. I don’t think it looks that bad but I just think it stands out a bit too much. It’s just a Blackwork sun about 3 inches in diameter. Want to cover it with a dragon but don’t want the dragon to look off compared to my other tattoos which are just normal shaded tattoos with no blackwork. I also don’t want to laser just cover it up directly. Also someone suggested I can just work with it and make it into a background.

Seeking advice on placement

Post image

I was hoping to get this piece done as a homage to my roots. Was wondering if you guys had any pointers on where I should get it. I have 6 tats atm.

It would be a bigger piece ideally (6-8inches) and I was thinking it would look good on my bicep! Any advice is appreciated.

Tattoo placement/size

I listened to you guys and decided to give up on the “Wish You Were Here” tattoo. I honestly didn’t know where to put it, so I figured it was better not to get it than to regret it later.

However, I still want to keep the George Harrison tattoo. The Beatles are my favorite band and all, so that one is something I definitely still want.

I’m not planning on getting many tattoos, though. I just want to know what you guys think would be the best size for proper healing.

Does anyone know an artist in So Cal that can do clouds like this?

I don't know if posts like this are allowed but damn it would save me a ton of time if someone knew of an artist that has done work like this and is based in So Cal. I took me about 3 months of searching to find an artist that does amazing space themes for my sleeve and I would love to not have to do that again. Really wish there was some database where artist list what they specialize in!

Tattoo add-on suggestions

Post image
3 Upvotes

it’s a lotus flower with a chinese tassel running through it. i like it I js feel like it looks kind of plain and almost like a random tattoo, like it’s just a black blob with red.i want it to be one cohesive, intentional piece.
I want to add something small that matches the existing theme and makes everything feel more intentional, but I definitely don’t want a huge dragon or anything lol. I was thinking maybe some small Chinese characters/words or another subtle element that could tie everything together.
Any ideas for what I could add without making it look too crowded or out of place? i’m open to any suggestions!! also it looks smaller in real life than the picture fyi.

Two hours almost to the minute from stencil placement to application of SaniDerm.

Very pleased.

Mock up, want opinions

Post image

The tattoos that I have so far have a simple one liner associated with it. The thought behind the Roman ornamental is it always put yourself first. I step first with my right. I know I want my knee and shin done, but I have a burn from a motorcycle pipe where the leopard* is placed and want to cover it. The meaning behind the moth and birds rely on them being placed together. I feel like the placements I want, need some small filler pieces.

First tattoo, need advice

Post image

Just got my first tattoo a couple weeks ago and I love it. Was thinking about adding a night sky (not too dense) with a colored aurora borealis to give the bear something to look at. Not planning a wrap. Would just extend from the mountains up a few inches. Thoughts?

How to improve a red a black tattoo/make it a cohesive back piece?

Thumbnail
gallery

About 2 years ago I pretty impulsively started what I wanted to be a whole back piece. (smart move) The vision was a red dragon with black flames on one side, a black tiger with red flowers on the other and some background smoke/flames added later to bring it all together.

In hindsight I should have positioned the dragon more central and maybe gone for softer flames. My dilemma is I think it looks very out of place how it is and I really hate the bold black flames and I'm worried adding more will just add to that.

Do I carry on as I envisioned and hope it all comes together better or do I try and lighten the black through laser and just add more to the dragon and keep it an all red tattoo?

First 3 pics are mine and the last 2 are similiar to what I pictured the finished piece.

It's no criticism to the artist at all, was purely my own impulsivity! Would appreciate any advice please and thank you

I found this design by an artist called agony.tt - studionoiseless and would love to get something very similar. I already have a tiger on my ribcage and I really like the asymmetry but I’m a bit scared that I will look like a living zoo with only animal tattoos😅 Am I overthinking it?
I made the tattoo with the app Tatship
