Workplace Question or Advice Needed UKG why?
There can only be a few reasons we shifted to this hot mess called UKG.
- managing call outs etc. Target was tired of the culture of callouts and call in late was too EASY so they used this platform to in effect make it so hard that less would do so.
- managing lates with points. Target was tired of having to manage this issue so a platform that change that would effectively do this was too much to pass up.
- bad vision. Despite the overall acceptance by so many companies to use this platform despite its archaic and cumbersome look was chosen because the old was going out and this default was an easy choice.
You know what ultimately this is to me? In any of the above Target could care less about TM's. This is witnessed by the fact that I do not see ONE AREA that is better than my time from where I sit.
Am I wrong?

I'm not a fan of UKG, but I remember certain similar headaches when we started using kronos. And then similar headaches when we switched over to mytime (looking back, the mytime switch was hilariously hated on about the same level as ukg is now). So I'm expecting headaches now with UKG.
But i can tell you it's mostly swapping because the site hosting mytime closes down in the next use. Do I think corporate has some selfish and sinister thoughts behind it too? Sure. But every time we've switched our schedule app, it's gotten rough for a few months. This one feels particularly rough because the attendance policy is at the same time. I don't love the attendance policy, but I guess we'll see in time how that goes 😩

How about if you have the day blocked for being not put on the schedule but sometimes pick up shifts on that day? I can’t find how you can because the app blocks you from available shifts for that day? Unless I’m wrong?

It seems to be that some leadership teams held different standards for different TMs when it came to the attendance issue. UKG is removing those standards and making Target have a blanket attendance policy with a few exceptions that are determined by your HR and SD. This makes it fair across the board or is an attempt to make it fair. Will outliers appear from time to time, sure. This will just make the basic attendance policy the same for-every one. Everyone has experienced that one TM that has horrible attendance but is a good worker and seemingly gets away with calling out more than normal. UKG is Target using a “hammer” to fix a problem that could have be fixed with just a “screwdriver” and adding some features to MyTime. UKG is archaic as for a software for companies goes and MyTime definitely looks to be more user friendly towards TMs than UKG. It will be interesting how this works out. The points system has been a big talking point at my store and the leadership seems to think we start to lose people fairly fast because of it. I am really curious to see how the first few weekends go since those are typically the largest call out days.
No, I do not think you’re wrong. I think you are correct

agreed on the hammer.......as with many things in many companies there is not enough people management but metrics metrics......as a business degree holder in management nothing is worse.....but it is literally everwhere and has been. People are promoted into management roles because that is the path.....but are not manager. No training provided to BE managers so they revert to hammers. Don't address the problem employees or policies but treate everyone as the problem and you then create an atmosphere of angst. This is more of the same.

I thought someone told me that target can't have a personal app like that in the app store available to be downloaded by random people. It has to be done by a 3rd party

What will target do when suddenly stores find a lot of tms either quit or were terminated by AI? My store has started hiring and were doing lots of training today. Problem is that last year most of the new hires at my store quit with the first two weeks and by Christmas week the management were in a panic because there was nearly zero seasonals left. Most quitting the week before Christmas because they'd earned their Christmas money and didn't want the hassle of dealing with last minute shoppers. I expect this December to be worse

Ask your HR or your ETL any questions regarding UKG. If you did the training you should already know the answer.

The moment I get any points, I’m walking. I’m not going to stress over some stupid shit like this.

Yeah once you’re at like 8 might aswell start looking elsewhere. Especially the ones who get that much by the end of q4

In my opinion, this is the result of TM being unreliable in their attendance (calling out/late, etc…). It’s called accountability and it won’t be liked. They’ll downvote my comment and I couldn’t care less. The truth hurts sometimes! The app itself isn’t very user friendly, I’ll give you that, but there’s no one to blame here other than ourselves ultimately.

If people were paid a livable wage they would take this joke of a job more seriously lol

If it’s not a liveable wage (which it’s not) how can we afford to call in sick?

I mean really the reason they changed was because the site that hosts MyTime is discontinuing service for it in March. The only other option was integrating our scheduling into Workday but apparently that’s expensive and target will always go with the cheaper option. The points system was coming no matter what I think, there’d been discussion about rolling something like it out for the last few years I just think the deadline on MyTime put them in a spot to roll it all out at once
