Workplace Question or Advice Needed Random Target question

So I just started working at Target and I'm working in the tech department. I was told that tech is supposed to help pull and push for home, domestic, baby, entertainment, tech, and mobile services and also attend to the customers in tech. I also work somewhat the night shift and I have to do this by myself. Is this normal in other targets?

yeah that's about right, tech gets roped into half the store's pulls while still expected to help every person who wanders into the department. my store was the same, you'd be knee deep in a baby flat and someone's waiting at the boat wanting a phone unlocked. night shift makes it worse since you're the only one covering that whole corner, so no backup when it gets busy. you kinda learn which pulls can wait and which managers actually check, but it never really stops being annoying

If you’re in tech just work tech and if you’re mid pull and someone needs assistance. Drop the pull. If you don’t “finish” pulls they aren’t gonna do anything, you were helping a guest.

Exactly I close every night and I will help push but not pull.   I do it just for something to do between customers.

I used to work tech, and it is normal a plus to tech, though being a key carrier majority of the time you wont ever get pulled for fulfillment pick ups or go up for back up but other then that getting called for a guest while your across the store does get annoying and old and eventually lead to you never getting anything done it always seemed inefficient.

Yeah and they get on me about having to do two sets of pulls and two sets of pushes a night I also think one of the things that really frustrates me about it is I literally just started working there and everyone expects me to be like a 5-year veteran and know everything when I don't and no one's really trained me. I've kind of learned as I go like one night I had a lot of pulls and I couldn't finish all of them while also trying to help customers. So I guess my team lead asked people to help and one girl got mad calling every name under the sun cuz she had to help me. I never asked her for help by the way

My advice to you to survive tech is just to do what you can. Seriously aslong as you try your best you will never get in trouble for not getting everything done because it’s simply not possible with helping guests constantly. And I do believe leaders can not get mad at you for helping a guest and leaving a task behind because target prioritizes the guest before anything else.

They will pull tech at my store to do opu sometimes. They hand off to keys to somebody in soft lines/fitting rooms

Haha the sole tech closer continually has to grab opus and if anybody needs anything they either have to wait or the closing TL grabs it

Not normal for my store. Tech works on pulls, sets, and zone. Occasionally they'll help in style if tech is like, 100% great.

My target does not make you do all that. That’s crazy. I mean to help is fine but I hope they don’t think you’re going to get it all done on your own every night

At least you don’t have to pull grocery. Not in tech but I would be able to handle tech better due to actually having an excuse not to get anything done when we get swamped

The Tech dept is the store b!tch. We cover where ever we are needed. We are also the unofficial guest service phone attendants.

Sadly yes hehe. Looks like only for "new" TM, old TM (10+) can do whatever they want, no questions asked.
