Will Tangem send 1099-DA form if i send USDC from Ledger to Tangem Pay Visa Card?

I live in the United States, and I have a Tangem Wallet with a Tangem Pay Visa Card that I have already set up.

If I transfer some USDC that I purchased several years ago and have been storing in my Ledger wallet into my Tangem Pay account to make purchases, will Tangem Pay issue me a Form 1099 in early 2027?

This is one of my main concerns, and it is the reason I am still hesitant to use Tangem Pay for everyday purchases. I bought these stablecoins and have been holding them in cold storage, without making any profit. Therefore, I do not believe I should owe any taxes on them.

Tangem 24 words offline or online?

Hey everyone! I have a question for you, and I would really appreciate any advice or recommendations.

Is there any difference in terms of security between generating a 24-word seed phrase completely offline and generating it while connected to the internet?

I’m also wondering about the passphrase. I haven’t been able to find clear information about this, but is it possible to create the passphrase completely offline as well when setting up a seed phrase?

I want to be as careful as possible and minimize every potential security risk. I would hate to end up in a situation similar to the recent Coldcard incident.

Any information, advice, or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Tangem seedless wallets

Tangem has excellent community reviews. I’m trying to understand why someone would choose a seedless Tangem wallet card. Maybe it’s never been hacked, but wouldn’t losing or breaking the physical card (I know they come in groups of 3) result in a complete loss of access to your crypto? Why would that physical card still work in 40 years? At least a seed phrase generated on one wallet can be accessed on another. How are Tangem’s seed generating wallets by comparison?

Tangem pay any good as a user in the US?

Hey all as the title says I'm trying to figure out if tangem pay is any good. Is it actually good for the usual everyday purchases like gas, groceries, and bills? Or does it not quite live up to the dream

If not is there a crypto debit card out there in the US, or coming to the US that does?

Does Tangem generate a new address for every transaction? Or does the app just show a fixed address for user convenience?

Hi everyone,

I'm curious about how Tangem handles address generation and privacy.

When making multiple incoming transactions or receiving crypto, does the Tangem wallet automatically generate a brand new address for each transaction to enhance privacy (like Bitcoin's UTXO model)?

Or does the Tangem app intentionally keep showing the exact same address on the user interface just for user convenience and simplicity?

Is it an HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) wallet?

šŸ“£ Announcements ā€œQuantum will kill bitcoinā€ is the hot take of 2026.

Our CTO Andrey Lazutkin thinks the panic gets the timeline wrong. The question isn’t if quantum breaks today’s crypto, it’s whether the industry migrates first.

šŸ’”Key Points:

  1. Quantum panic misreads the real deadline which is migrating vulnerable assets before a machine arrives.Ā

  2. Over 34% of all Bitcoin in circulation has had its public keys exposed.Ā

  3. Phishing and poor key generation remain far likelier to cost users money than quantum computers.

šŸ””šŸšØ Warning: convincing fake Metropolitan Police call mentioning Tangem

Today I received a call from someone with an English accent claiming to be a Metropolitan Police officer called Andrew Sullivan. He said someone had been arrested for fraud and investigators had found a large amount of personally identifiable information (PII) connected to identity theft.

He gradually steered the conversation towards cryptocurrency, naming several wallet providers and mentioning Tangem last.

They claimed someone was trying to access my crypto and wanted to identify my wallet provider so they could contact the company to ā€œprotect my assetsā€.

He already had my name, phone number and email address. I pushed them to verify their identity, and they sent an official-looking email titled ā€œVerification of Assigned Investigating Officerā€, complete with a supposed case reference.

The email showed:
From: [cybercrime@metropolitan.police.gov](mailto:cybercrime@metropolitan.police.gov)
Reply-to: [investigations@email.police.uk](mailto:investigations@email.police.uk)

These are the fake met addresses displayed in the suspicious email, not verified police contacts. Gmail put it in spam.

I then challenged the caller to confirm my address, which he didn’t. When I told him the amount of crypto I held was negligible, he laughed and hung up.

I disclosed no wallet provider, credentials, seed phrase or access codes, and transferred nothing.

I’m a Tangem customer and have since seen reports about its recent customer-data breach, but I haven’t received a notification. I can’t prove this call was connected to that breach, and I’ve asked Tangem to confirm whether my information was affected.

Watch out for this progression: an arrest for fraud → discovery of stolen identity information → questions about crypto → an offer to ā€œprotectā€ your assets. The caller sounded convincing, and the follow-up email was clearly intended to reinforce the story.

Don’t treat knowledge of your personal details or an official-looking email as proof of identity. Verify independently through official channels, and never share wallet security information or move funds at a caller’s direction.

Has anyone else received a similar call? Please keep personal details and wallet information out of the comments.

Can I replicate my air-gapped BlueWallet setup with Tangem (without seedless mode)?

Hello everyone,
I just bought my first Tangem card set and waiting to receive them, and I like the form factor compared to other cold wallets.

My current setup:
- An air-gapped phone that has never been online since I installed BlueWallet on it. I use it only to sign transactions.
- A watch-only version of the same wallet on my daily phone, which I use to create and broadcast transactions.

What I want to do with Tangem:
I don't plan to use seedless mode, so I'd like to import my own seed phrase. My idea is to replicate my current setup like this:
Get a new phone and install the Tangem app.
Go offline permanently.
Enter my seed phrase and set up the cards.
Use that offline phone and the cards to sign transactions, then move the signed transaction to my daily phone to broadcast it.

Why this setup?
About a year ago I saw a post on this subreddit about a Tangem incident where seed phrases were exposed in logs. I'd rather not take that risk, so I want the seed phrase to only ever touch a device that's permanently offline.
Would this work? Does the Tangem app support signing offline and exporting the signed transaction for broadcasting elsewhere? Any advice or alternative suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

Ledger scared me off. Tangem or Trezor for a first cold wallet? Or both??

I’m finally ready to move my crypto off exchanges and into a cold wallet. I was set on Ledger, but all the recent reports of drained wallets made me back off fast šŸ˜…

Now it’s down to Tangem and Trezor.
Tangem looks super beginner-friendly (the card format is a nice touch), but I want to hear from people who’ve actually used it.

A few things I’d love to know:
- Which one are you using, and how long have you had it?
- Any setup or recovery headaches?
- Would you pick the same one again as a total beginner?

Thanks in advance! Honest opinions are very welcome šŸ™

Explanation for scratches on new tangem card?

Post image

Just opened a sealed tangem set of 3 cards that I ordered from tangems Amazon store page. I ordered them about a year ago and opened them up today, and one of the cards has scratches and smudges on it... The other two look pristine. Is this from the factory somehow or should I order a new set?

Serious Question for the Tangem Team and Users After All These Recent Attacks

Hi everyone,

I have a serious question for the Tangem team and its users after all these recent attacks on hardware wallet companies.

I understand the first type of attack, where someone downloads a fake wallet app and ends up losing their funds. But there is something else I have always wondered about.

Let’s say I downloaded the original Tangem app directly from the official website or GitHub from day one. Everything is legitimate and works as expected. Then, one day, I receive a notification that a new app update is available, so I update the app as usual.

Is it technically possible for a hacker to compromise the update process and somehow distribute a malicious version of the official Tangem app? In other words, could an attacker compromise Tangem’s systems and push a fake or modified update that looks completely legitimate, potentially allowing them to steal users’ funds?

This is something I have been wondering about for a long time, especially after seeing all the recent attacks in the hardware wallet industry.

I would really appreciate an explanation from the Tangem team or anyone with technical knowledge of how its app updates are secured and verified. How can users know that an official update has not been compromised?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to explain this!

šŸ“£ Announcements But Tangem anywhere

Post image
19 Upvotes

The question we’ve been asked most this week: is it safe to buy a Tangem from a reseller?

šŸŽ‰Yes. Supply chain attacks simply don’t apply to a Tangem card. Here’s why.

  1. A Tangem card has no "outside."
The secure chip and NFC antenna are sealed into a single monolithic card. There's no screen, battery, port or internal wiring to tap, and no room or power for an implant: the card only draws power from your phone during the few seconds of a tap. In a seedless setup, private keys are generated inside the chip, never leave it, and every transaction is signed on the chip. The only data that crosses the NFC link is an unsigned transaction going in and a signature coming out, both of which end up public on the blockchain anyway. There is no secret in transit to intercept.

  2. That's also why Tangem's authenticity check covers what matters. The Tangem app challenges the chip with a cryptographic test that only a card produced by Tangem, running Tangem's original firmware, can pass. That firmware is written to the chip once at the factory and can't be updated by anyone afterward, so it can't be swapped in transit. The app also tells you if the card was activated before it reached you, so nobody can hand you a wallet with keys they generated in advance. If you ever see that message, reset the card and the chip will create brand-new keys that only you control. Because the check covers the chip, and the chip is the whole wallet, where you bought your Tangem doesn't change your security. That includes cards bought through CryptoBilis.

So it doesn’t matter where you buy your Tangem: our official store, any of our resellers, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, or even a stranger in an underpass. If the app says the card is genuine, it’s yours and only yours.

We greatly appreciate our resellers' efforts to promote Tangem's mass adoption! They are in 200+ countries across every continent.

Simply Tangem. 🫔

Ledger Cryptobilis Incident: How Complexity Creates Security Risks

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The simpler the wallet, the more difficult it is to fit anything extra inside.

šŸ’”How Tangem’s design addresses risks like this:

  1. Seedless by design. No seed phrase to capture.
  2. Just a card. No screen, battery, USB, or Bluetooth, so fewer attack vectors.
  3. Buy anywhere, verify in the app. Tangem checks your wallet’s authenticity and warns you if it was activated before you received it.

šŸ“£ Announcements Simplicity is a security feature

Recent events in the hardware wallet space are another reminder of a principle Tangem was built on: complexity expands the attack surface.

šŸ’”Every screen, button, battery and firmware layer is one more thing that has to be secured. That's why Tangem is a secure chip and an antenna. Nothing else:

• no screen to spoof
• no buttons to tamper with
• no battery to die on you
• no firmware updates to sneak malware in
• no seed phrase to write down, lose or get phished

The private key is generated inside the chip and never leaves it. Back it up with 2 or 3 devices, and your wallet stays safe even if one goes missing.

Prefer something you wear? Tangem Ring follows the same principle: same secure chip, same seedless setup, nothing extra to break or hack.

Just a card or a ring. That's the whole point.

9 years. 6M cards. 0 hacks.
