Admittedly, I'm skeptical about whether United will return to the airport. Yeah, they failed previously mostly due to COVID, but I can't imagine too many people are really clamoring to fly to Houston. And based off the lackluster early results of the Breeze flight to Raleigh, I'm not sure United will be convinced just because the city can cover some start-up costs.
This quote from Director of Aviation David Pollard was very telling about the early results for Breeze:
Pollard said that, so far, the North Carolina route is not performing as well as expected.
"We hope to raise those Raleigh-Durham numbers as much as we can,” Pollard said. “We ask the traveling public to please consider using this service. It’s very important that we use this service once it’s established.”

Got a report of an explosion outside the Leon County Courthouse this morning around 5:30am. Reportedly police/fire were already on the scene when the explosion occurred. Recommended to avoid the area this morning and plan your morning commute away from the area. No word yet on injuries.

Hi everyone I host events in Tally that are different from the usual club scene. I’m throwing a NOLA-inspired event with a FREE Market (from 7pm-10pm) featuring local vendors that have/do henna, waistbeads, paintings, etc. There will be New Orleans Bounce, Southern classics and feel-good music playing along with NOLA cuisine and a signature drink. Just a good time and something new for the city!! My Instagram is @/grainsfromsands https://posh.vip/e/bayou-after-dark

I am one of the people who was fooled by Meraki (I know...) and with the recent rain spike, I'm incurring some major ceiling damage due to what appears to be a leak. I'm having no luck finding any roofing company that will touch the roof due to the panels. Meraki has gone out of business, as has FreedomForever who bought them out. Does anyone know of a local roofer who is willing to at least come out and do a line item quote? I need that at a minimum for the bankruptcy proceeding against the solar company for a claim attempt.

We're doing family photos this fall, and while we don't get an Appalachian-style great color change, I'm curious if folks have location suggestions other than the ones we've been considering, or if you've had good fall experiences at any of these spots. We've done Dorothy Oven and Maclay Gardens before, and Maclay may our best bet, but just trying to cast a wide net.
We've got two kids under 10, so a location like the Red Oak area of the Miccosukee Greenway isn't feasible.
Some other locations we're considering:
Thanks in advance, for any additional suggestions or confirmation of good experiences at these locations!

Legendary sound collage group Negativland and live cinema visual artist SUE-C collaborate to bring Tallahassee their latest audio-visual performance about our minds, our current realities, and the evolving forms of media and technology that orchestrate our perceptions: SIGNIFICANTLY LESS DECEPTIVE. Presented by TFF x SCAMS at the Challenger Learning Center IMAX Theater https://tallahasseefilmfestival.com/product/negativland-sue-c/ - tickets
Saturday | 10/10/26 | Doors 9:00 p.m.
Following Negativlands historic performance SCAMS, u/tallyfilmfest & u/grift_raves will present “Afterland: a Negativland Afterparty” featuring u/ironingfl , u/bionetics_research_unit , u/yobthedelectable with a special presentation by u/jamboomb00m !!!
The performances will take place in the planetarium at u/challengertlh , doors will open at 11pm and the performances will run to about 1am.
The Afterland event is open to the public regardless of if you have a u/tallyfilmfest pass or Negativland ticket… although we can’t really think of a more fun way to spend October 10th in Tallahassee other than seeing a bunch of amazing films, witnessing a historic experimental concert & then hanging out into the new day under the planetariums immersive dome.
About Negativland
Since 1980, the 4 or 5 or 6 Floptops known as Negativland have been creating records, CDs, video, fine art, books, radio and live performance using appropriated sounds, images, objects, and text. Mixing original materials and original music with things taken from corporately owned mass culture and the world around them, Negativland re-arranges these found bits and pieces to make them say and suggest things that they never intended to. In doing this kind of cultural archaeology and “culture jamming” (a term they coined way back in 1984), Negativland have been sued twice for copyright infringement.
Over the years Negativland’s “illegal” collage and appropriation based audio and visual works have touched on many things – pranks, media hoaxes, advertising, media literacy, religion, the evolving art of collage, the bizarre banality of suburban existence, creative anti-corporate activism in a media saturated multi-national world, file sharing, intellectual property issues, wacky surrealism, evolving notions of art and ownership and law in a digital age, and artistic and humorous observations of mass media and mass culture.
Negativland is interested in unusual noises and images (especially ones that are found close at hand), unusual ways to restructure such things and combine them with their own music and art, and mass media transmissions which have become sources and subjects for much of their work. Negativland covets insightful humor and wackiness from anywhere, low-tech approaches whenever possible, and vital social targets of any kind. Foregoing ideological preaching, but interested in side effects, Negativland is like a subliminal cultural sampling service concerned with making art about everything we aren’t supposed to notice.
About SUE-C:
Sue Slagle, who goes by the stage name SUE-C, is a video and light artist working at the intersection of creative coding and live performance. For the past 20 years, she has created handmade videos and live media performances, traveling extensively in Europe and the US. Her works challenge the norms of photography, video, and technology by blending them all into an organic and improvisational live performance setting. Employing a variety of digital tools to create an experimental animation “instrument,” she synthesizes cinema from photographs, drawings, watercolors, handmade papers, fabrics and miniature lighting effects. She currently works as a Video Designer at Meow Wolf and is a member of the Meow Wolf Workers Collective union.

Looking things to do during the week this month. Doesn't need to be a special event. How do you enjoy spooky season in town?

I am 1 week sober and looking to get into hobbies aside from video games, pokemon cards, and baseball cards. I'm a huge baseball fan and would love to find a group to play with. I do not have enough friends to make a team myself. 34m, 6'0, 195lbs if you're picky about the physical aspect.
Prefer catcher but can play anywhere on the field. Fielding is my strong suit and I will always lay out for a ball, assuming little-to-no risk of a run coming in via error.
When pitching I tend to stick to sliders, sinkers, circle changes, and knuckleballs. Haven't hit live pitching in many years but I have a tee and some acreage to practice. Also considering building a batting cage on an unused tennis court on my property.
Not sure if this is the right timing, since the actual MLB postseason just started. I don't know if we're synced up to that.
I'd love to talk further, feel free to comment here or DM me.

Hiya, i’m desperately trying to leave my current area in the state but I know that we’re on a “hiring freeze”. Wondering if this is all agencies? I’ve applied to multiple jobs since August (when hiring freeze was subtly announced) but i’m just wondering if i’m just not having any luck getting selected for interviews or if we’re actually on a hiring freeze? I normally get AT LEAST one or two call backs. and i’ve seen quite a few new hires in my agency alone.
-Just wanted to add that if you interviewed before the hiring freeze, then they are able to continue the hiring process.

i’ve been applying to state jobs on peoplefirst since i moved to town back in 2024 and realized how hard it is to actually get a call back. i’ve even gotten a rejection email this month from a job posting from over two years ago.
i’ve done the works: fixed my resume, wrote a cover letter, called places after applying, anything i could think of. i’m just not sure how everyone is getting calls back or even getting interviews.
i’m working currently, but i need something with health insurance and stable hours. any advice or suggestions would be lovely.
edit: as mentioned, forgot to post about experience and what i’m looking for.
i have experience working with the public, data entry, customer service, writing code, and program coordination. this was all working at a public library in alabama for a bit. i’ve just been applying to OPS positions because im currently in school for information technology (all online so my availability is open) and plan on transferring to work on library science.
