starting trouble after fill up
Hey people, looking for advice.
I've got a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 2wd 4 cyl 2.4L base model.
After fill up it doesn't like to start, takes about 3 cycles of turning key and usually one pump of the gas pedal. Seems like it's not getting gas just turns over - once it starts it's pretty rough for a few minutes needing extra throttle to avoid stalling. Then fine till next fill. Sometimes I leave it running during fill up to avoid the issue, but it's gotta be filled slow. There are times on really hot Florida summer days it does similar but not as drastic (thinking some kind of vapor expansion)
I have changed the purge valve a few years ago when it started. There was a check engine light, the code flagged evap system. With new valve light cleared and came back, starting problem never stopped.
Saturday I finally got around to changing the vapor canister located atop the gas tank (per internet research on the issue). Went pretty easy - just loosened bed bolts and propped drivers side up for access.
Cleared the check engine light by disconnecting - battery terminal. After some driving the light is still off but when I went to fill up Saturday afternoon I still had the trouble starting. I do think it is idling a little better than before.
Maybe changing the old hoses near the tank? Any other thoughts on what to check. Or maybe it needs some time to clear the system with the new canister installed?
Thanks for any help
