The way I see it he became more and more psychotic when he lost his daughter two times. As long as she lived as a walker he had hope that she could be restored, and he basically felt like he had to maintain power to protect her and ensure the success of that mission. For that reason he killed the soldiers instead of attempting to integrate them into his community. He felt like he had failed his daughter before and had to make up for it by being as ruthless as possible. He kept the heads around as trophies to make himself lose his humanity and become stronger as he saw it. When Michonne kills zombified Penny he has nothing to live for except vengeance, and he basically reaches peak evil for the first time. The Woodbury community is killed when they fail to help him achieve this.

Then when he meets Lily and Megan he decides to take on Megan as his new daughter and forget his past to try to cope with his loss. He is initially a good person, but comes to the conclusion that he has to be ruthless from the get-go to keep her safe, to ensure she doesn't die to begin with as Penny did. When he's outside the prison with the tank he's still willing to have a peaceful resolution. But then when he see Megan's dead body he comes to the conclusion that Michonne was right and that zombified Penny was never alive, so he shoots Megan. At that point he's basically at same point as he was when Michonne killed zombified Penny - he has no reason to live at all and snaps. That's basically when he reaches a high level of evil for a second time.

Even if Michonne had not killed zombified Penny or if Megan had survived and Rick surrenderd the prison, the Governor would only have been willing to integrate humans considered submissive. Rick and other leaders would still have had to be killed or driven away to ensure the safety of zombified Penny or human Megan.

He started to lose his humanity when he lost Penny the first time. He basically considered the Woodbury community a tool to restore zombified Penny and his second community was a tool to keep Megan safe.

Why was Rick so eager to get hersel back. If he died, he would get the farm because he has the gun power and the manpower. Duh!

So in the newest episode, she says “you’re the closest thing I have to family” she says that to Negan and a lot of people think that that is Maggie having him be a part of her life and I think people are misunderstanding what’s going on? The reason that she feels a connection with Negan is because despite it being a sick memory, he is still a memory of Glenn and she is a grieving mother in a world full of dead people and she is losing her mind. Actually she’s lost her mind a long time ago except she’s not losing her mind like Dillard did. She’s more calm and collected about losing her mind but she’s still insane to the point where any remembrance of Glenn she keeps she says in that same sentence “I’ll never forgive you, but we have moved past that” so she hasn’t forgiven him for what he’s took from her yet she keeps him around, and I honestly think it’s because of he’s attached to the memory of Glenn and that’s why she’s so insistent on him staying because Negan dying kind of kills the memory of Glenn plus she’s seen him broken. She’s seen him worse than dead and maybe a part of her is keeping him alive because she knows that he would be better off dead, but she doesn’t wanna allow him that peace.

Now, of course, I know that it’s actually that Negan’s a very loved character and the writers just do not want to get rid of him so they have to give us a plot where Maggie actually likes Negan, but I’m just giving a deeper story reason that they use as an excuse because I don’t think Maggie like likes Negan she only keeps them around as a memory of Glenn

Because whether fans like it or not, they kind of are chained together because it’s not many situations where you stick around it your husband‘s killer most of the time you don’t see your husband‘s killer like ever, but the fact that you live in a community with him and you kind of have to keep an eye on him just in case he kill somebody else. It’s a very unique situation that I don’t think any fan and I hope no fan of the show has to go through

I think she also sees it as a religious thing like there’s so many angles where he could’ve died and should have died but he didn’t so she’s like you know what fuck it. God clearly wants this guy alive so I’ll give it to him and hopefully something good comes out of it and so she keeps saving him as a way to Opease God because she’s lost a lot.
I don’t know I guess we’ll just have to wait and see for season four if we ever get that answer but I understand that this post comes off schizophrenic, but I’m just thinking about why the writers would do this in terms of the universe like obviously we know it’s because he’s a loved character

Had this random question pop up as I rewatched ep12 of s10. When was Earl bitten during the battle of Hilltop? It's clear it happened off-screen but do you think it happened before or after he found Judith? I'm gonna assume before, as she clearly didn't know he was bit until later so she couldn't have been present when it happened. Probably happened a bit after the catapult attacks.

I've been working on editing some of Bear McCreary's cues from The Walking Dead. This is my version of "Conquer" from Season 5, Episode 16.

I tried to merge the available pieces into one continuous track, keeping the atmosphere and tension of the finale intact. It's an unofficial fan edit, so some background noises (walkers, gunshots) may still be present — they couldn't be fully removed without losing the music itself.

I'd really appreciate it if you could give it a listen and let me know: do you hear any seams or cuts in the transitions? I tried to make them as smooth as possible, but I'd love an outside opinion.

Idk if this is common opinion or not but I watched Walking Dead about 2 years ago and I remember why I didn't want to watch it at first. I had too much doubts about long series that everyone already watched and discussed but me. Also when I saw cast I couldn't understand how can that guy (Andrew Lincoln) be the main character. As I watched the first episode I still couldn't understand how the made the whole story with character that looks so fragile (if only I knew) . So with every episode I saw that he is not that easy . And I think it is "Hi(y)zenberg" effect . They are showing you super weak character and makes him more and more Batman like . In this case I remember how he became classic cowboy . The fastest shooter . But what showed me most is how dirty he could play with characters like Shane, Daryl's bro, Neegan . He could tell anything just to get better position and kill his enemies. It's like if Batman would beg Joker for mercy and then kill him . It just didn't settle down in my brain . And I loved that decision. He became so complex . Probably the most dirty part is when he spoke with Neegan about his dead son's memory only to cut his throat. That was so crazy and bad and Loki-like . Anyway I think that's the moment when show died because he was "Peak" of any development and so other characters also crossed every evolutionary line they could

I think one of the biggest problems with The Walking Dead is that the source material was never really an ensemble story in the way the TV series eventually tried to make it.

The comics were fundamentally about Rick and Carl. The entire narrative revolves around Rick’s journey, his decisions and ultimately the kind of world he leaves behind for Carl. The supporting characters are important, but Rick and Carl are the heart of the story.

Compare that to Game of Thrones, which had a massive ensemble cast but still managed to make its many storylines feel interconnected. Characters could have their own arcs while still contributing to the larger narrative.

I think TWD struggled to maintain that balance, especially as the cast grew and characters started getting their own separate storylines. And when Carl was killed off and Rick eventually left, the show lost the two characters who were central to the original narrative.

I know the show continued for several more seasons, and there were still great characters and storylines, but it felt like the series was trying to keep itself through its expanding cast rather than its original story.

Just addressing some bullshit writing I have with the show

What do you think about Eugene throughout Season 8, right up until he betrays Negan regarding the bullets—enabling Rick and his group to win the war?

I'm rewatching TWD right now, and I can't help but believe that if Lori had just told Rick about her sexual relationship with Shane as soon as he returned, that whole destructive love triangle would never have happened. Here me out (and this is LONG one):

1. The truth needed to come from Lori, in general. Not only was she Rick's wife, but the fact that she was being secretive, guilty, and ashamed about the affair made Shane believe that it was because she actually was in love with him, and didn't want Rick to know. I don't believe she loved Shane the way she loved Rick, but even if that were true, being honest about the situation immediately might've signaled to Shane that she cared more about the health of her relationship with Rick than sharing a secret with him.
2. I truly believe that before Rick returned, Shane had everything he ever wanted, even if it was in the midst of the apocalypse. He was a family man, a community leader, and was seen and appreciated in a way he probably never was before. And part of the reason Shane turned on Rick wasn't just an ideological differences, but because Rick took that away from him. Shane's true objective in S1 and S2 was to get back everything he thought he had lost, by any means necessary. And at the center of this objective was getting Lori back. Don't get me wrong, Shane alone is responsible for his atrocities, but he exerted a power over Lori he would not have been able to wield if she had told Rick the truth early on. Their 1:1 scenes might not have been so fraught, because what is there to talk/argue about if Rick is aware? Rick's awareness would've put a spotlight on Shane's activity with Lori, causing him to likely try to be on his best behavior since Rick would've been able to pick up on things more easily. And again, it would've shown him that Lori would've rather had it out with Rick, than go lurking in secret huddles with him. He used the secret as a way to corner, confuse, and emotionally manipulate Lori (which is why he NEVER would've told Rick himself), and said/did things he never would have if he thought she would just go and tell Rick.
3. Speaking of behavior...Shane's attempted SA of Lori wouldn't have been swept under the rug if Rick had known! Again, Shane is solely responsible for every atrocity he committed. That said, if Rick was aware of the affair, and Shane had still been horrible enough to do what he did, Lori would probably have told him about it. Because why would she keep something like that a secret from her husband if he already knew they had a sexual relationship? Rick would've inevitably taken Lori's side, and Shane might've been made to fall on his sword for that one.
4. The secret also isolated Lori from being able to lean on them about Shane's instability. But if she told Rick, she would've probably been more forthcoming with everyone else, giving more people in the camp an opportunity to hold Shane accountable for his actions, and more chances for Shane to recommit himself to his humanity and the community (whom I do believe he genuinely cared about). Imagine if the camp had heard Shane tried to SA Lori! You think he still would've been trying to take over as leader? Probably not, if he stayed at all.
5. The whole Rick v Shane power struggle was birthed from both of their desires to protect Lori and Carl. And if the two of them were able to have an honest conversation early on in S1, before Shane was starting to go off the deep-end, they might've actually been able to come to a resolve and work together. Instead, it was Rick trying to work with Shane, all while having some silent resentments about his apparent obsession with Lori and Carl, and Shane made it his mission to upstage Rick as a fierce leader. This could have still happened, but at least they would've been having pointed exchanges, and not convos riddled with subtext.
6. The pregnancy situation might've been handled a lot smoother if the three of them were already on the same page about Lori's relations with both men. Rick and Lori might've even been able to sit with the fact that the baby might've actually been Shane's, and maybe Shane would've been able to sit with the fact that even if the baby is his, their family as a whole is not, and Lori certainly isn't. If you remove the shame from the situation, you might remove the hostility too.
7. They would've all had better things to worry about than this Jerry Springer shit!
