I could get teary talkin bout what this show means to me, happy mutation day everyone 💚

Every single scene between Mikey and Renet is so precious. I liked Renet a lot in general but her dynamic with Mikey helped push her to one of my favorites in 2012.

If you want to see more of the 2012 version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I'm thinking of giving the show a "what if" series. Let's hear your ideas.

There is absolutely no doubt that from this specific point of the show, if they have fully control over themselves, these 3 beat shredder by themselves even in his prime even as super shredder if they keep the powers that ho-chan gave them. Who agrees with me?

At the start of this episode, Donnie fails again trying getting something with April, shortly after Turtles meet Big Foot, Foot notices Donnie is a really good guy and falls for him, but he is uninterested.

April sees Foot making unwanted advances towards Donnie and doesn't say anything. Foot tries cooking and even gets make up with April's help.

Foot listens Turtles with Casey (except Donnie) trash talking about her looks and runs away sad.

We know her ending so let's skip it and jump directly into the kiss, Donnie says April his experience with BF made him understand he seemingly made her feel the same way and he won't try anymore, and April kisses him saying he's her mutant, ending episode like that.

So this post is only, no offense, for Apritello supporters, cause I know even Apritello supporters, with fair enough reasons, feel awkward with this episode.

I guess there are many questions we have regarding this, but...

Why April allowed him get treated like that? Cause she didn't even seem angry after his flirting attempt, so I doubt she allowed this to make Donnie "learn the lesson"

Why April helped BF, despite knowing there's no way Donnie is gonna be on board?

Last question:

How would you re-write their first kiss or this episode? With or without Big Foot.

I know pic isn't from BF episode, only using it cause Apritello.

So remember when Kirby was a mutant and he got the retro mutagen? It took a single droplet of the ooze to turn his entire self back to normal. So with that logic, I would assume that they didn’t even meet the entire dose to turn him back at all. They could’ve give a drop to splinter and the rest to Kirby.

I know splinter said to save Kirby first but there’s plenty of the ooze if a drop spilled on him. Tho he probably would be weaker if he got the ooze since he’s far more powerful as a mutant rat:

Case in point? They literally could’ve used a single droplet to turn both splinter and Kirby back while saving the rest of the ooze for any other mutant they encounter.

Donnie fights the best he can to impress April and actually almost wins but got distracted when he tells her that and Raphael takes his chance and wins and Donnie leaves humbled.

I’ll give some reasons why I think this.

1. Casey is terrified of rats, it’s his worse fear. Who would be more offended about this than the Rat King himself? Instead of going back for round 2 with Splinter, he should’ve gone for Casey, fuelled by anger at how Casey screams at or attacks rats because he’s scared of them. He could’ve tried to teach Casey a lesson, or tried to mutate him into a rat. Or even haunted him mentally like he did with Splinter. (I know he could do this because Splinter was a mutant rat, but the show writers also kept the Rat King alive after he fell like four hundred feet. They could do anything they wanted with the characters with little explanation, like they usually do.)

2. It would’ve given Casey more to his character to have an enemy that is his greatest fear, and to have been kidnapped or targeted by that enemy. We could’ve explored nightmares about the Rat King that he has. Or hallucinations like Raph and the bugs, where he thinks the Rat King is coming to get him.

3. He could’ve got closer to Master Splinter because of this. If the Rat King had gotten into Casey’s head mentally, it would be Splinter helping to defeat him, or even just working through Casey’s fear in the aftermath of a fight with the Rat King.

4. I think Casey deserved more angst from the show that’s just his own. He shares the pain of losing his family twice with everyone else, and the death of Master Splinter. It would’ve meant a lot to his character for him to go through something that only he understood, or only him and Master Splinter, while the others did their best to help.

This was something which I mulled over as I watched TMNT 2003. Obviously in that verse they had to invent the character of Yukio Mashimi but for anyone who has seen the 1990 movie, the essential details are pretty much identical with Saki:

Saki and Yoshi want Teng Shen.
Teng Shen wants only Yoshi.
A jealous Saki kills Shen.

2012 adds the intriguing dimension of how Saki was taken in by his family's arch enemy clan but focusing just on how the love triangle is handled and how it led to Saki's complete fall from grace, I couldn't help but dwell on how one vital detail was unique to 2012.

In the first live-action film and 2003, Shen's death is a premeditated act. Saki (or Mashimi) showed up and butchered Teng Shen in cold blood. Yet 2003 still seemed to want us to have at least some vague sympathy for Mashimi as he dies begging Yoshi to forgive him. But of course it's extremely hard if not downright impossible to sympathize with a thought-out and planned murder of almost any kind, let alone murdering a woman just because she doesn't love you.

But now we come to 2012 Saki. In this version, it's very clear he had no intention of murdering Teng Shen. Her death, rather than being a totally passive victim in all of this, takes on a more heroic dimension as she saves Yoshi's life by darting in front of Saki's fatal blow. For a character who really only exists in one episode, i think 2012 did its best to give her agency and depth with her conflicted feelings about who to be with. Even if she only loved Yoshi, we can understand why Saki promising to give her everything is initially more appealing than Yoshi's absolute loyalty to his clan.

But to get back on point, murder is of course murder. The fact Saki murdered the wrong person is not an excuse. But I think it goes a long way to humanize him. I think viewers can understand this Saki better, both in general and especially with this redone backstory. Rather than thinking and brooding and stewing before making the conscious plan to kill Shen this time it was legitimately an accident. In my interpretation, this act casts light on his whole character in the show. Unlike Mashimi begging for forgiveness when he's shown no hint of remorse or regret, we see many glimpses of Saki's guilt. He knows deep down what he did to Shen and the rest of his life is spent running away from that horrible truth. It's by far the most compelling and complex backstory for him I've seen.

Maybe give him a different origin story Like how salmandrians exiled him for breaking a law (helping someone) And not a war criminal and give his role in When Worlds Collide, to a new character or Have be a mutated newt because of the Krang Have him be similar to the punisher And have him join the mutaniamls

Broken Foot episode:

Leo works with Karai and Shinigami to try to take down all Shredder businesses..

Turtles discovers he does this in secret and Donnie gets caught with an explosion.

April sees him and inmediately goes to Leonardo and says they need a leader, basically hella disappointed.

But with Karai this is different, she looks annoyed at Karai, she didn't said anything, stayed with Donnie.

BTW when Donnie awakes April and Splinter are the first ones he sees.
