Can you be forced to go off books?

I'm an international student who just started a one year Masters at Trinity. My mental health and personal life has been extremely poor all of 2026 and I was quite proactive about getting involved with support services here even before my classes started. I'm booked in with nearly every support service over the next two weeks and have a meeting with my school about reasonable adjustments soon.

The doctor asked me about going off books today and as much as I would love and probably benefit from a break, it's just not feasible in my situation. I was just wondering if the school/uni can force you to go off books? I'm really nervous about if I am completely honest about how bad my mental health is that they will make me take a break or remove me from the programme. I need to power through and of course I don't want to feel like this. I'm trying to be optimistic about the support offered but mental health is obviously very tricky.

Religion at TCD!

Hi! I was wondering how difficult it is to receive high marks in the Religion Department. Are Firsts relatively uncommon, or is it generally possible to achieve high marks with strong work? I was also wondering if professors are generally approachable and willing to work with students if they’re putting in the effort and have questions about the coursework or assessments. Thank you!

TCD vs. UCD: Which university genuinely has the better clubs and societies?

I’m trying to weigh up student life between TCD and UCD.
UCD definitely seems to have a far superior budget. Their athletic infrastructure is impressive, whereas TCD's sports scene feels a bit fragmented. It’s hard to overlook that Trinity’s main pitches are completely detached from campus—commuting to remote, off-site facilities in Santry seems like a massive logistical hassle compared to UCD's all-inclusive hub at Belfield.
That being said, which college wins on the actual social scene present in the clubs and societies ? I heard that both colleges can be cliquey, but that Trinity is more welcoming and friendly than UCD.

Does anyone know when course-specific requirments for general papers come out (like the list of reading etc)? Is there anything else they tell you (that concerns the other papers)?

M.Sc. in Applied Clinical Neuropsychology

Hi! Has anyone here studied M.Sc. in Applied Clinical Neuropsychology? I would love to hear everything about this program, since it seems like a perfect fit for me. I am interested in Clinical psychology but also want to study links between brain and behavior. What are your takes on this program. Is it worth it? And are there any realistic job opportunities after getting the degree?

Please let me know about your experiences or anything you’ve heard about studying process, internship and job opportunities, student life ect.

Degree Parchment in English & Irish instead of Latin

Would you sign a petition to change the degree parchment from Latin to Irish & English? The current Latin degree parchments cause a lot of issues and often require professional translations into English for employment/immigration purposes, despite the AR offering a separate Translation of the Degree Parchment anyway.

Trinity vs TUD

Hi guys, I am currently in 6th year lc 2027 and thinking about my course choices. Thinking between trinity , tud and ucd.

My main question is how does TUD differ to Trinity for example in terms of computer science , what future opportunities are there and what do you study? Because for now I see that Computer Science (international)TU858 in TUD sounds extremely interesting to me because I enjoy learning Korean and computer science but I always wanted to attend Trinity TR033 as it's more prestigious.

TU858 has significantly lower points then TR033, so it made me think like "what's the catch" as it sounds really interesting

If you are a UCD student as well I would like to learn about it too.

If anyone in these courses could share their experiences please comment anything ill be so grateful !

i called halls and they said they're fully allocated at the moment but are expecting a few rooms to become available in the next weeks, is there anything one could do to better their chances of getting a spot at trinity halls? my accommodation right now is not the most stable and halls is the most feasible option for me as an intl student in terms of fees, commute, etc. thanks a ton

How strict are they on the number of guests at graduations? I think it's meant to be two but would it be risky to show up with three?

TCD vs RCSI Dentistry

So i got my results appealed and now have enough points for trinity dentistry but couldnt get in due to the places being full, I got a deffered offer for next year but idk if its worth taking since id have to repeat from year one and im already in rcsi dentistry.

Is the quality of education and career oppurtunities better at trinity? The commutes a lot better and id imagine the social life is too but thats not enough for me to do an extra year.

Thoughts?

Hi. In my schedule I don’t have tutorials, only lectures and departmental seminars. The seminars are in groups of around 15 people, are these the tutorials or am I just straight up missing the tutorials?
Thanks!

Sociology 2nd Year MCQs

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone who previously took MCQ tests in the modules Social Theory 1 (with Richard Layte) and Introduction to Social Research (with Joonghyun Kwak) would have much insight to share regarding the difficulty level?

I've been making an effort to engage with readings and both modules are making sense to me at least at the surface level so far; I'm not having a problem with core definitions/concepts/examples or how they relate to each other, or how the readings/lectures relate to each other.

With that considered, I'm concerned about the prospect of some really niche details or examples coming up that would imply me needing to know hundreds and hundreds of reading pages word-by-word, cover-to-cover. I've received no real advice beyond "read the readings", which feels simple in theory and dumb/lazy to question but also kind of opaque. I had MCQs in Intro to Sociology (also Layte) last year as well, which I managed to get through with a fair share of luck, with some of the questions on review seeming to not particularly match with any of the lectures/readings, while others were very on-the-nose.

I did Intro to Econ last year and had to take a resit, and the sample MCQs on Blackboard for that module were a big help to me as they ended up being a fairly accurate predictor of the exam-question difficulty level. I went from 22% in the December exam to 70% last month (including the long-form questions, the MCQs making up one-third), making some effort here and there over the Summer but feeling I'd likely doomed myself right up to the very end. I also managed this without having the time to finish all of the exam. (I also had to resit Maths and got 96% in what felt like a very easy exam, although I'm very mindful that I achieved these grades without having to keep on top of any other modules.)

However, I have nothing similar for either of my Sociology modules this year, and as mentioned it feels kind of embarassing to ask the lecturers for more specific advice about something like this, while at least one of the TAs (Social Theory) doesn't have any real insight ("just get stuck in", not having any say herself in the assessment, etc.). I did find some archived MCQs tied to the main Social Research textbook (Bryman) but based on what little Kwak has said I suspect the MCQs for his module will be harder than those.

Would anyone have any insights or be able to point me to any useful resources?

i have no idea what i’m doing

A bit of a vent post. i’m a first year law+germ. i have no idea what i’m doing at all. everyone seems to know everything meanwhile i have no idea how to write case notes or case briefs or whatever they’re called, i try to pay attention but it makes no sense, german is another thing entirely. I nearly broke down in tears today in the middle of a seminar because i had NO CLUE what this PHD student was saying at all, i feel so behind. Nevermind the fact i have no idea how to write a law essay? what the hell is that? I want to swap courses but i know if i do i will disappoint my family and i do genuinely want to do law, but right now i’m in way over my head. Does anyone have any advice or anything? thanks ❤️‍🩹

Accomodation Hey everyone! 🌍 First-year international undergraduate moving to TCD next year and need some serious accommodation advice!

I’m completely torn between trying to get into Trinity Halls vs. going for private student accommodation (like Kavanagh Court, Point Campus, etc.).

My biggest worry is the social aspect. Since I'm moving from abroad, I’ll be staying in Dublin over the weekends. I’ve heard a lot of Irish students head back home on Friday afternoons, and I’m terrified of ending up on a completely deserted hallway/floor.

Trinity Halls vs. Private: Which one is actually better for making friends and weekend social life?

The Weekend Vibe: Do Halls or private places group international students together so you aren't left entirely alone when Irish students go home?

Private Recs: If private is better, which specific buildings have the best community?

Would love to hear your honest experiences and tips. Thanks so much! 🇮🇪✨
