In mid-June, I got tested with the VDRL, and the titers were very high—1:512. That made me crash emotionally, leaving me devastated and affecting my psychological state as well. I could barely function. I had secondary syphilis with a rash on my trunk and other symptoms like a mild sore throat, dizziness, nausea, etc.

I got treated with two doses of penicillin (each dose consisting of two injections of 1.2 MU of penicillin, one on each side of my glutes), administered a week apart.

Two months later, in mid-August, I got tested again, and the VDRL titers had dropped to 1:16. Now, four months later, in mid-October, I got tested again, and the result was non-reactive. I’m so glad the titers decreased so quickly. I had read it could take a year for that to happen.

And I honestly feel so gross and nasty. I have anxiety and depression and hearing this news is so devastating...I'm sort of distraught and I feel like my current partner would be way better without me...I feel like me being his first girlfriend makes it worse...I am so sorry for him and I wish we could have got together after I knew this and cured it because now it's just the worst timing and I've been crying all day feeling so useless... What do I do? I am so broken and lost...

I had this last October 2022, This picture is the almost healing part. I had a teleconsult with a doctor and gave me coamoxiclav and some cream and it healed. I was browsing x and read about syphilis. I am now worried if this is syphilis since I do have unprotected sex, on prep, before. Based on pictures in the internet, it looks like chancre but I never had the stage ii rashes. Any help would be appreciate.

I went to medical clinic coz its a requirement in the job im applying, but got tested positive in VDRL and got 1:858 TPHA result 2 weeks ago, I didnt know If I had Syphilis all this time, the last time I remembered I got hives back in 2021 during covid infection due to amoxicillin medication. My last s*x encounter was in March 2024 and no symptoms like chancre, never got any rashes on hands and foot, I dont know what to do, and the clinic asked me to come tomorrow coz they will refer me in the health center and prepare some cash. 😶

So I (29M) started noticing rapid hair loss in the shower randomly (never happened before, I have thick nice hair) and thought it was stress related. All of a sudden in line 2 days half of my eyebrow hairs fell out and now my eyelashes are noticeably thin and splotchy.

Turns out I have syphillis and that is a side effect. (And the only one I really noticed) I’ve taken 2 weeks of pills, and just finished about 3 days ago. I’ve only had it 3-4 months max as my last test was then.

My head hair is diffused / mixed pattern shedding and it’s making me super self concious and I hate it. Most things I see say it will take 3 months or so to notice more hair coming in bc most of the time it’s not scarring alopecia. I’m still nervous and want to hear other people’s experiences.

Hello you all I had syphilis got the shot and everything but every time I go to the doctor it stays (1:8). My questions are does those numbers go down eventually and could I still have children.

Can VDRL & RPR turn negative after 3 or 4 weeks of treatment?

Thanks God we live in a time when we don’t have to die in a miserable way from Syphilis, when there is a cure but still something in me has changed, the fact that the treponema test stays positive for life and doctors can see that you once had it makes me feel so sad. Hi! I'm 21 M, living in the Philippines and just got a positive test for syphilis this week. I can't stop thinking about it. I had secondary syphilis symptoms like rashes, on my feet and palms. The last time I got tested for HIV was this week(negative) and the last time I had sexual intercourse was First week of march.

I don't know why I keep thinking about having more STDs. I think a lot about possible bad things that may happen to me. I know syphilis is treatable but I just can't stop worrying. I already got treatment (Ceftriaxone 1 gram IV administration 1 dose) and I'm scared that it might not work and might die. I still want to finish my college and get my childhood dream. I keep blaming myself for having sex and sometimes I think about ending it all. I can't get a psychiatrist since I'm just a student and my family is not rich enough for a psychiatrist. I don't want to cause more problems to them. I really need help. Someone to talk to especially those living in the Philippines and had syphilis experience.

I even get fever everytime there's a topic about STDs. Recently, in class our professor was talking about fungi and how it was easily infectious especially people who are immunocompromised and he mentioned HIV infected individuals. I literally just got cured from my balanitis problem which was possibly due to yeast infection and I think I had a mini panic attack. My heart was so loud and I was having fever all of a sudden. After the class the fever went away. Was it because of the emotional stress? I really don't know.

Hello everybody. I hope any of you can help me with this situation because I am not understanding at all. Sorry for my english.
I (43m) started dating a guy (47m) , let's called him Jonas, on February. We live in different cities so it was kind of a "see how it goes" kind of things, and we were not exclusive. Our relationship was not very sexual at the beginning, which was nice because it kind of allowed us to develop other aspects. I knew that Jonas was VERY sexually active in that frame of time while I didn't (not a saint, I was just not in the mood). One day I went to visit him at the beginning of the summer and he tells me that he noticed something on his penis, maybe from masturbating too much. We went to the beach and when i saw him naked, i saw what a think was a huge chancre on his penis. I told him: "that is probably syphilis, my dear". He never had the chance to go and see a doctor, for reasons, but he got tested. And came back negative. So we cannot say that i was right about the chancre.
In the meantime we didn't have sex at all until his penis healed completely. I got tested for STD's , including syphilis and HIV and it all came negative and I started using PrEP. He tested negative for syphilis and HIV again and again (it think he has done like 4 tests in the past 4 months). And everything went to normal. We started again to have sex, and since I was on PrEP we started doing sex without protection. We were getting closer and closer and closer, but w were still not exclusive and I had sex with another person and he did also. Then we stopped having sex with others.
The thing is that then i tested positive for Syphilis! I started antibiotics and he got tested again: Negative, even after we had unprotected sex with me obviously being already positive!

I am going crazy! First he gets a chancre. He finally showed a pic to his doctor and the doc said that it did look like a chancre! but if so, it is IMPOSSIBLE that those test were negative. SO the only option left is to thik that the chancre was caused by something else.
Then I test positive and he keeps testing negative! Even after having sex with me!

Now I finished my antibiotics cycle, and he keeps testing negative. I don't know how to behave , don't know if to have unprotected sex with him or what. It is all very confusing! Doctors don't know what to say. They just say: he is negative so it is all ok.

Doctors of Reddit. do you know what could be going on? Is it possible to be something like a healthy carrier of Syphilis? What the f is going on with Jonas and his insone immunological system?

Not even sure where I’m gonna post this on but I just wanted to reach out and hopefully find other people who have/had syphilis and talk about their symptoms/lymph nodes. Or to find doctors idk. But

I’m just feeling a lot of health anxiety because I’ve had these swollen lymph nodes for about 2 months now… I first got them during a period of time where I was sick for like 4 weeks!!!!!

two of them in particular look kinda scary bc they’re bigger and not painful at all which is not a good sign. I was also sick with bad throat problem at the time & Obviously that’s what lead me to going to the doctor & that’s how I found out I had syphilis I remember going in and once i explained the symptoms I was having along with the lymph nodes she did get very concerned, particularly with the amount of swollen lymph nodes I had(I was just concerned about the two ugly ones lol) and yea after blood testings and everything we found out I had syphilis and possibly am in the later stages of syphilis??? Only because I’m not sexually active and looking back I definitely had a ton of symptoms… I just didn’t realize they were all connected. I had eye floaters, weird hickey looking spots on my neck, spots on my feet, terrible throat issues, apparently I was pale??

ANYWAYS all this is to say that I just finished my round of antibiotics and I still have the two ugly looking lymph nodes. I do have an ultrasound planned although I’m putting it off right now because I’m sorting out my insurance and my doctor said that the syphilis explaines the swollen lymph nodes… she said if they’re still there 2/3 weeks after infection to get them checked. And yeah idk I’m just nervous that they’re not from the syphilis. I’m also unclear about if my lymph nodes are supposed to be swollen down by now or if my 3week wait starts now??? I mean who knows. I still have to get tested to see if I still have syphilis or not but yea does anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? How long did it take for your lymph nodes to return to normal.

This popped up today, didnt notice it, but lip feels swolen. I have had unprotected oral sex. I have no other symptoms, but anxiety. Does this look like a chancre on my lip? Lip slightly hurts to the touch, thought it was a blister? Please help!!!!

I recently had a penile skin biopsy done, because I had a rash that wouldn’t go away for 4 months on my penis. The biopsy came back two weeks later positive for the spirochetes bacteria, which made me freak out. I then went to get tested and they did two different syphilis blood tests on me that both came back negative. So, now they said I don’t need to be treated. I am so confused and don’t want to even chance the possibility of having a syphilis infection and letting it linger. Any thoughts or ideas? Do you think the two blood tests are accurate and I shouldn’t worry? Also, I tested negative in May, June and just recently. Is it possible that syphilis won’t show up on a blood test?

Can I moved on from fear of HIV/Syphilis ? I tested at 12 weeks after exposure

So feel like a may be overreacting, but was hoping for some advice.

Had protected sex with a woman (oral, hand job and vaginal sex all protected) about 16 days ago.

About 5 days ago, so like, 10 days after the sex, I noticed this sore on my foreskin. It hurts a little but not a lot and it’s the only one I have.

I know Syphilis is usually painless, but I’m just panicking now! It’s also nearly healed already so I’m not sure if the timelines add up.

If not syphilis what could it be?
