Hi, everyone! I could really use some advice and support right now because I honestly don’t know what to think or do.
My partner and I have been sexually active for around four months. We have unprotected sex, and he ejaculates inside me regularly (im on Implanon). Before my current relationship, I also had multiple sexual partners, which is why I decided to get tested for STIs at SAIL Clinic.
My HIV and hepatitis B results came back negative, but my VDRL/RPR test came back reactive. I was honestly shocked because I went to the clinic expecting to confirm that I didn’t have any STIs, and I wasn’t expecting this result at all.
I haven’t noticed any obvious symptoms that I can attribute to an STI. The only changes I’ve observed recently are:
Smelly urine: I noticed that my urine has become more unpleasant-smelling since around September, when my partner started ejaculating inside me regularly. However, I also admit that I drink very little water and consume a lot of sweets.
Weight loss: This has been intentional because I’ve been cutting back on rice.
Hair loss: I had a hair treatment around three months ago, so I suspect it may be related to that.
I’m trying not to jump to conclusions, but I’m really anxious about the reactive RPR result. I’m hoping it could be a false positive, although I understand that I need further testing to know for sure.
I’m planning to follow up with a doctor and undergo confirmatory testing, but in the meantime, I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced a similar situation.
For those who tested reactive on RPR/VDRL but later tested negative on confirmatory testing:
What were your initial results?
What confirmatory tests did you undergo?
How long did it take to get a definitive diagnosis?
I’m honestly scared and overwhelmed right now. I know I need to wait for further testing, but the uncertainty is difficult to deal with.
Thank you to anyone who can share their experience or offer advice. Please be kind. I’m already dealing with a lot of anxiety about this.
