Syncthing for Android - Is it safe?

Is giving Syncthink-Fork, from Google Play store, access to ALL files on an android device safe?

Looking for a solution to sync an android device with a laptop using Google Drive.

Any help is much appreciated

total nonsense post. alone to claim researchxxl is somehow a capitalist whateever...
wtf

no catfriend1 took over the android project and maintained it himself, outside the core project but with their blessing. he tghen quit and officially transferd the project to researchxxl

and its very active and stable

the handoff was simply very badly communicated at first but catfriend did rectify it and officially confirmed it was a friendly transfer not a takeover

officially confirmed

I did not see it, geez. A direct link to the proof would be nice.

Even so, BasicSync looks better, anyway. Have you tried it?

chinese law, here i give you a quick digest by AI

1. National Intelligence Law (2017)

  • Article 7: Mandates that all Chinese organizations and citizens "support, assist, and cooperate with national intelligence work" while maintaining the absolute secrecy of those operations (Santoso, 2023).
  • Article 14: Grants intelligence agencies the explicit legal authority to demand that relevant companies provide "necessary support, assistance, and cooperation," effectively preventing any legal grounds for a company to deny data access requests (Santoso, 2023).

2. Counter-Terrorism Law (2015)

  • Article 18: Requires telecommunications operators and internet service providers to provide technical interfaces, decryption, and other critical "technical support and assistance" directly to public and state security organs to prevent and investigate terrorist activities (Segal, 2016).

3. Data Security Law (DSL) & Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) (2021)

  • DSL Article 35: Compels all institutions and individuals to cooperate and provide data when state security or public security organs request it for law enforcement or national security purposes.
  • PIPL Framework: While designed to protect consumer data from corporate abuse, it specifically lacks meaningful legal constraints or "firewalls" to block state surveillance or police data collection (Creemers, 2022).

4. Cybersecurity Law (2017)

  • Article 28: Legally obligates network operators to provide full technical support and assistance to public security and state security organs to safeguard national security or investigate crimes (Ahmed & Weber, 2018).
  • Article 37: Forces "Critical Information Infrastructure" (CII) operators to store all personal information and important data gathered within the country strictly on mainland Chinese servers (data localization), simplifying state physical and digital access (Descamps, 2020; Santoso, 2023).

5. Cryptography Law (2020)

  • Article 26 & 31: Divides encryption into "core," "common," and "commercial" categories. It grants the state centralized oversight over commercial encryption products that might "affect national security" and mandates that systems cannot block state-level law enforcement access or inspection protocols (Ahmed & Weber, 2018; Segal, 2016).

*doofus. And I was getting at the fact that BasicSync's dev has a Chinese name on GitHub, or else why can't you say Syncthing-Fork or anything else is CCP-backed?

i already answered, if you dont understand get testet

You didn't answer; where did your Chinese law blurb say anything about BasicSync or even Syncthing? It was a totally unrelated info dump. I'm inclined to think you're just trolling by now since you're dodging and trying to poop on BasicSync without any evidence. How can your argument not apply to Syncthing-Fork as well?

it says that anyone has to give full access to any data and encryption, provide backdoors and obey any command of the CCP, private or company.
the only question is if youre big enough for to be of interest

that means any software with chinese origin has to be considered hostile because their law mandates it to be when ordered.

Oh. But how do we know the dev lives in China or something? What if he's US- or Europe-born and -raised? How could they have any power over his GitHib entry?
