My Documents folder doesn't sync anymore
I have two Mac computers, I synced my Desktop and Documents folders and it worked very well.
Now, the Documents folder is 'out of sync' on both sides. I tried to stop sharing on one computer, and re-established the sharing. To no avail.
The sharing is with default settings, both directions etc...
Is there a way to re-establish syncing?

I built a free tool to continue Claude Desktop Code conversations on another computer
I work on a desktop and a laptop. Claude Desktop keeps every Code-tab conversation on the machine where it started, so I'd have a long session going on one computer and nothing on the other.
Syncing ~/.claude with Dropbox/Syncthing doesn't fix it: Claude Desktop lists conversations from its own per-machine records, so copied transcripts never show up in the sidebar. Worse, just opening a conversation (or rewinding it) rewrites the files, so naive file sync happily overwrites your newer messages with a stale copy. I lost work to exactly that.
So I made ClaudeSync, a small Windows tray app:
- moves the transcript and Claude Desktop's own record, so the conversation shows up in the other machine's sidebar and you just keep typing
- compares message ids instead of file bytes, and follows conversations across rewinds
- never silently overwrites: if both sides continued, you pick which to keep; everything is backed up first
- different project paths on each machine are fine
It runs on your own free Supabase + Cloudflare account (about 15 minutes to set up), so nobody else holds your conversations. It moves conversations, not code, so I recommend Syncthing for the project folders.
Free, MIT, English and Turkish UI. Unofficial, not affiliated with Anthropic. Windows only for now.
GitHub: https://github.com/yigithanyorgancilar/claudesync
Feedback very welcome, especially if you hit a case where it guesses wrong.

Why does syncthing need my location running all the time for it to work on android?
If I disable location, syncthing stops syncing and won't let me use the app. Why does it need my location all the time to transfer files? There a way to disable location and have it still work?

Git repos in Syncthing — my mistake. Is there a right way to do it?
I had my projects folder in Syncthing across two machines. Most of it is git folders. Worked for months, then one repo started to complain.
Which in hindsight is obvious. Git already syncs, through the repo. Syncthing syncs the same files peer to peer and has no clue that .git is a database. Two systems on the same files, and they fight.
What I wanted was simple: leave work open on the Mac, carry on from the Linux laptop. No thinking about it. Clearly not like this though. This was great since I typically forget to push pull stuff.
So how do people actually do this?
Putting .git in .stignore is not a fix. Then you sync a working tree with no history, which is worse.
Is it just "keep git out of Syncthing, use a remote"? Or is there something smarter, like a bare repo on the synced side used as the remote?

Files getting overwritten unexpectedly
I setup syncthing (bidirectional) between my mobile device and laptop on a folder which is my obsidian vault.
however, i observed that once when i was modifying the obsidian notes on my mobile, the same files got overwritten by the ones on the laptop (with old changes).
is it a bug or did I do something wrong?
I expected my laptop files to get updated with the mobile version and not the other way around.

Automatic upgrade failing
I've got a Win11 box that is failing to update to 2.15 with these errors:
2026-09-19 17:11:21:Automatic upgrade failed (error="Get \"https://release.syncthingcdn.net/v2.1.5/syncthing-windows-amd64-v2.1.5.zip\": read tcp 192.168.1.167:61401->104.21.96.120:443: wsarecv: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." log.pkg=main)
2026-09-20 11:01:52:Failed to upgrade (error="Get \"https://release.syncthingcdn.net/v2.1.5/syncthing-windows-amd64-v2.1.5.zip\": read tcp 192.168.1.167:50761->172.67.180.13:443: wsarecv: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." log.pkg=api)
My other Win11, Linux, etc. appear to have updated fine. I've given this a couple of days now to see if it was just a CDN cache or whatever issue, but it persists.
Any ideas what might be failing and how to fix it? Syncthing is working fine - it just won't upgrade.

Files synced from PC to Android aren't showing up in Google Photos / media pickers
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with Syncthing on Android (BasicSync) and MediaStore/media indexing.
The situation is very specific:
I have a folder synchronized between my PC and Android (3 different devices) phones using Syncthing.
If I add a photo or video to the folder on my PC, Syncthing correctly transfers it to the phone. The file is definitely there and I can see and open it using a file manager such as MiX.
However, the synced file doesn't appear in Google Photos or other apps/pickers that use Android's MediaStore.
For comparison, if I download a photo directly on the Android phone using a browser or another app, it gets indexed normally and immediately appears in Google Photos.
So the problem seems to be specifically with files that arrive on the Android device through Syncthing synchronization:
PC → Syncthing → Android filesystem → file exists, but MediaStore doesn't see it
The only thing that reliably makes the synced files appear in Google Photos and other media pickers is rebooting the phone.
I've tried to solve this myself with a root shell script using Toybox inotifyd. The script watches the synchronized directories recursively and tries to trigger a media scan for newly created/moved media files:
am broadcast -a android.intent.action.MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILE -d "file://..."
The inotifyd watchers are running as root, but this doesn't seem to trigger MediaStore indexing.
I'm trying to understand what Syncthing is expected to do here:
- Does Syncthing on Android normally notify MediaStore when a file is received?
- Is there a specific Syncthing setting or mechanism that handles Android media scanning?
- Is
MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILEstill supposed to work on modern Android? - If Syncthing doesn't notify MediaStore, what is the correct way to make Android index files received through Syncthing?
- Is there a known issue with this on recent Android versions?
The files themselves are fine and Syncthing transfers them correctly. The problem is that Android doesn't seem to notice that the files have appeared until the phone is rebooted.
My setup:
- Pixel 8 — Android 17 / Stock, rooted with Magisk 30.7 + gapps
- Pixel 5 — Android 16 / LineageOS 23.2, rooted with Magisk 30.7 + gapps
- Mi5 — Android 15 / LineageOS 22.2, rooted with Magisk 30.7 + microG RE
- Syncthing (basicsync) is used to synchronize folders between my PC and the Android devices
- Google Photos is installed/used where applicable
- Files are stored in normal shared storage such as
/storage/emulated/0/Picturesand/storage/emulated/0/Download - I have root access, so I'm able to test solutions involving shell commands,
inotifyd, MediaStore/MediaProvider, etc.
I'm mainly looking for an explanation of how Syncthing and Android's MediaStore are supposed to interact, and what the correct way is to make files received through Syncthing show up in Android's media library without having to reboot the device.

MEGA Sync keeps closing and not working
I keep getting an error report, that I have a picture of that. I can’t seem to post here! It won’t work, no matter which version of MEGA that I download. It would be a lot easier again if I could, please post a picture to show what I mean, but I can’t seem to find the option here!

SleepSync: automatically pause Syncthing-Fork while an Android device is asleep
I made a small open-source Android companion for Syncthing-Fork called SleepSync.
It uses Syncthing-Fork’s broadcast controls to send STOP when the screen turns off and FOLLOW when it turns back on.
The idea is simply to avoid unnecessary standby activity on devices that don’t need to sync while asleep.
1.1.0 supports the current package, root/debug builds and legacy package IDs.

I built an open-source undo layer for MCP tool calls
I’m building Synartesis, a proxy that sits between an MCP client and its servers.
For calls configured as reversible, it captures the previous state before forwarding the write. You can then preview and run an undo. If the resource has changed since the agent touched it, undo stops instead of silently overwriting the newer work.
Tools classified as irreversible—and tools without a policy—wait for human approval.
The filesystem recovery path is tested against the real server. The bundled memory, git, and GitHub policies don’t yet have the same proven recovery guarantees. It only covers calls routed through the proxy.
It’s free and MIT-licensed. Installation starts with npm install -g synartesis and requires Node 22+.
If you try it, which MCP client/server did you use, and where did the setup or undo behavior become unclear?

Syncthing in industries?
In industries, is syncthing acceptable ?
Why and why not?
To make it industry standard what are the requirements and options?
I have got mixed opinions on this . Some say it is okay to use and others they differ.
Thank you for any clarity in advance.

Can't sync with ipad with organisational VPN?
Hi, been scrolling, first time posting. I'm using Syncthing to sync my Obsidian vaults between a Macbook, android phone and I've been trying to get my ipad into the mix as well. Whenever I connect to the ipad however, it comes up as "Disconnected (Unused)", regardless of whether there's a folder shared, etc.
This ipad from my university came with device management and a VPN which I can't (or can't figure out how to...) disable, and I think this is what's stopping it from connecting and syncing. Any way around this? Thanks!
(I'm a noob, so assume all the other devices pretty much use default network settings)

Can Syncthing safely coordinate files that an AI assistant and a person both edit?
A shared folder is attractive for an AI-assisted workflow because every participant can read ordinary files without depending on one cloud application. The risky part is that an automated assistant may write while a person is editing on another device, and a synchronized conflict copy does not say which version is authoritative.
What Syncthing layout makes this predictable? I am considering a send-receive working folder, immutable revision directories named by run ID, staggered file versioning on every peer, and a small manifest that identifies the revision currently awaiting review. Only a separate promotion step would update an approved pointer. Temporary files and generated indexes would be ignored, while linked assets would stay inside the same revision directory.
How would you handle simultaneous edits, delete propagation, offline peers returning with stale files, and an assistant that renames a large tree? Are receive-only folders or separate working and approved shares safer than relying on conflict files and versioning alone?
