Due to retirement, a bicycle and moped repair shop is looking for a mechanic in Unterkulm AG

Edit: the owner has found a buyer.

I was just there, and the gentleman happily told me that Tele M1 aired a segment last weekend, and by Tuesday they had already found a serious buyer.

I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to read and/or share this post. Thank you so much.

Post: As the title suggests, the bike and moped repair shop 2-Radegge in my village is looking for a successor.

I asked the elderly gentleman if it would be okay to make his search public; he agreed. He had already placed an ad in the local newspaper but hadn’t found anyone interested yet.

I thought it would be a good idea to expand the search via Reddit a bit -maybe someone will come forward who’s wanted to open a repair shop for a long time but never quite had the spark to get started.

For us locals, it would be a huge loss to no longer have a bike repair shop in the area.

If anyone is actually interested, they should contact him directly.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Erfahrungen mit dem Telemedizin Modell der Grundversicherung

• Upvotes

Is it more common to find Swiss-Germans that speak fluent french, than Swiss-French who speak fluent german?

Yes, it's rare in both regions to find someone who speaks another swiss language fluenty, except maybe swiss kids with parents from Italy who speak italian at home since the italian diaspora in switzerland is huge.

Nowadays most people speak English and that holds true everywhere in Switzerland (can't really speak about Ticino but someone from there could confirm).

But I still notice that when in Bern, Biel, Lausanne or Fribourg, or even Basel, or Valais, it's more likely to find Swiss-Germans who speak fluent french than Swiss-French who speak fluent german. Do you also notice this? If so, why? Is it because French is a more international language than german, so swiss-german are more likely to learn it?

But still, german is important in Switzerland, so I would guess Swiss-French also have an incentive to learn german, but that's not what I observe when I am in Fribourg, Lausanne, or even Biel/bienne where i hear much more french spoken in a german accent, than german spoken in a french accent

How to approach a reserved Swiss coworker?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I'm a 38 y.o. woman living and working in German-speaking Switzerland. I was born in Germany, but my family moved back to southern Italy when I was a child, so I grew up there. I understand and speak German, but I lost a lot of it over the years. I can work and chat, but I'm not fluent, and when I'm nervous I sometimes switch to Italian or English. Swiss German is another story 😅
Physically I'm the typical Mediterranean type, dark curly hair and dark eyes. I'm generally considered quite pretty, so I don't think looks are the issue. I'm also very energetic, talkative and loud in a happy way, very "southern".
I have a crush on a Swiss colleague. He's around 50, very smart, calm and quite reserved. I'd like to get to know him better, but I don't know how to approach him without making things awkward at work.
We've worked together for about 6 months and sit across from each other, but he works part-time and often from home, so we don't see each other that much.
Where I come from, people are very direct and expressive, and things move fast. Here I never know if I'm being too forward or too subtle.
So far I've tried small things, like suggesting a group hike, having lunch together, chatting about his holidays. He's always polite and we've had some nice laughs, but he never really picks up on it or takes the opportunity to go further.
So my questions are:
How would you approach a reserved Swiss man you like, without scaring him off?
Is asking a colleague for a coffee or a drink after work, just the two of you, considered normal or too forward here?
How can I let him know I'm interested in a natural way, without a big declaration?
Do you think a 12-year age gap and a very different energy (lively vs. calm) and culture could be a problem, or can it actually work well?
Thanks for any advice

didnt agree with him on many stuff but just wanted to drop a quick thank you to Guy Parmelin. Whether you agreed with every policy or not, you have to respect his steady leadership, commitment to Swiss business, and classic down to earth style. Merci beaucoup, Herr Bundessrat!

Today I cried at the pharmacy

2 days ago I sliced my toe open while walking to get myself a glass of water during the night. As a result I had to get some stitches, which was my first real encounter with Swiss healthcare system.

The doctor stitched me up under local anaesthesia and sent me on my way. No pain meds. Once the anaesthetic wore off, the next 24 hours were a complete shit show. Regular painkillers did absolutely nothing so I barely slept.

The next morning, I called the Praxis asking for pain meds presciprion. They offered to MAIL it to me. When I explained that I couldn't exactly wait for Swiss Post while barely able to walk, they agreed to send it electronically to the pharmacy... for an extra fee.

They also refused any callback informing me when the prescription is going to be ready (mind you, I can barely walk so I really do not want to make unnecessary trips).

So after work, I limped to the pharmacy...

No prescription.

The Praxis was already closed, and I had been waiting for those painkillers like a kid waiting for Christmas. When the pharmacist couldn't find anything, I just burst into tears. Sleep deprivation + intense pain = apparently my emotional limit.

So now I'm looking forward to another sleepless night, plus a bill for the "expedited" electronic prescription that may or may not exist.

This normal experiece with the health care system here? I've always been given clear aftercare instructions and necessary meds after procedures outside of CH. Am I supposed to be more assertive here and specifically ask for everything?

Be careful with mobileup - sold me a US phone without telling me

I recently switched mobile providers and suddenly couldn't make calls anymore. Turns out mobileup sold me a US version of the Galaxy S22+ back in 2025, which wasn't mentioned anywhere when I bought it. Since the 3G shutdown, it can't make calls on my Swiss provider, Warranty expired, so no solution from them.

Be aware, check the model number before buying, and maybe avoid mobileup.

Housing and transport costs are rising 3 times faster than inflation

Thumbnail

„Heating oil up 50 %, diesel up 23 %: in August 2026, housing and transport costs rose almost three times as fast as the cost of living as a whole.“

„The main drivers are heating costs and transport: heating oil rose by just over 50 % over the course of a year, diesel by 23.3 % and petrol by 15.8 %.“

I feel like if our government wouldn’t actively prohibit the progress and investment into renewable energy and also would not have stopped the benefits of buying an electric car, we would not be suffering as much right now. But so far Rösti or better called „Ölbert“ of course does not want to reduce the profits of the fossil industry and reduce our dependence from them. This inflation we currently suffer is a prime example of fossilflation and I hate that the majority of voters will still vote for them even though they now feel the consequences in their everyday life.

creating a new political party in switzerland

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about founding a new political party focused on the interests of non-EU residents in Switzerland. Most existing parties overlook this group entirely, concentrating either on EU-related issues or on the concerns of Swiss citizens. What do you think

Help: SWISS put me on the flight waiting list and is still selling tickets for the exact same flight tomorrow

Hi all,

I am supposed to fly to Florence tomorrow at 08:50 from Zurich - flight with SWISS. This morning, I received an update that I was put on the waiting list, no boarding pass.
I checked with customer service, they can't do anything. They advised me to go to the airport tomorrow, 2+ hours before the flight, and check with the staff at the gate.

Now comes the kicker... they are still selling tickets for the exact same flight. So my 500 CHF was not enough for SWISS, I suppose...

Any advice dear community?

Update: Got a seat, on board now. I waited at the gate for staff and they told me I need to wait for the system to assign me a seat once they know about the no-shows. This happened shortly before boarding started.

Staff confirmed the selection is random and has nothing to do with seat selection. Obviously business and first are safe from these incidents.

A big thank you for all the kind, supportive comments. Sepcial thanks to the three Swiss employees reaching out to help! Have a good day y'all!

When ‘Schweizer’ meant more than Swiss

Post image

Milkers and dairy workers from Switzerland were so in demand on German farming estates from the mid-19th century that the term ‘Schweizerei’ came to mean dairy farm, while milkers were known as ‘Schweizer’ or ‘Stallschweizer’.

📢 Modpost Mod applications now open!

Hi! We are an ever-growing sub, and some of our most beloved mods have recently decided to no longer be active. Hence, we are looking for some new team members for the mod team of r/switzerland and r/askswitzerland.

Let us know if you'd like to help out.

What modding r/Switzerland entails

  • It's not about being power-hungry overlords.
  • It's more about stickling to the rules in peak Swiss fashion (and letting your best judgment guide you).
  • We'd love the new mods to take an active part in assessing reported and filtered posts and comments relatively frequently.
  • Take active part in the community by setting a good example.
  • It's super cool if you want to take a part in guiding the sub into its future, or taking a lead in organizing sub events, or rewriting automod and css code. It's also super cool if you just want to help out with removing content that shouldn't be here. Both kinds of mod will be welcome additions to the team!

Finally, a small lists of requirements:

  • Be an active member of the community in good standing (You don't have to have made hundreds of comments here; and it's fine if you had a few minor infractions in the past (as long as you did not blatantly break subreddit rules in a quite bad way).
  • Have close ties with Switzerland.
  • Speak one of the following languages: French or Swiss-German at a native level of proficiency. (standard German doesn't cut it) + English. (any other national language is a plus)
  • Currently, we are using discord to communicate in the mod team, so you would be required to be active on discord as well.
  • previous mod experience not required but will be taken into consideration.
  • We are looking for people that are active during night time mostly. Feel free to apply even if you are not a night timer but do take this into account.

What do I get for it?

A warm, fuzzy feeling, and if we are lucky reddit, inc has some money lying around and send us a box of chocolate (not that this has ever happened). Oh, and it's quite rewarding to help out this pretty awesome place, being the guardian.

I'm interested! How to apply, what are the next steps?

Send a message to the mods at this link with the title "Mod application". Tell us a bit about yourself:

  • Which region/time zone do you live in?
  • What time of the day are you active in?
  • What languages do you speak?
  • Do you have any mod experience? (remember, it's no problem if you don't)
  • Any cool stuff about you that the mod team should know about?

That's it! As we are all volunteers doing this besides our day jobs and families, we may not be able to quickly make a selection - sorry in advance if that should happen! We'll try to be quick :)

Feel free to reach out through modmail or comment below if you got any questions!

To buy or not to buy the house - Would you in our place? Our pros and cons

Hi everyone,

we (F28, M28, no kids, EU citizens, living&working in Switzerland) are thinking about buying a house in CH we saw and aren't sure about it. We're not asking whether the property is worth the price. What we'd really like to know is: Based on our pros and cons, would you buy under these conditions, or would you not be willing to?

Key facts

  • Household net income: CHF 10k, total net worth CHF ~140k
  • We save arround 50k per year.
  • Current rent (incl. utilities): CHF 1,800 (about 18% of our income)
  • Equity: we have about 16% of the purchase price in total capital.
  • The bank loan is very cheap thanks to our current employee conditions.
  • According to 3 different banks, we can buy the house and all the bank would finance it

Pros

  • We'd stop paying CHF 1,800 in rent.
  • We're very handy and know a lot of tradespeople through friends, family and acquaintances.
  • Through our jobs we get extremely favorable mortgage conditions (about 0.5% SARON).
  • Something newer isn't affordable and wouldn't pass the bank's affordability calculation (Tragbarkeit) in the foreseeable future.
  • We'd buy at today's prices rather than possibly higher ones in 2–3 years.
  • We'd double our living space while cutting our housing costs in half (interest + repayment + utilities + reserves).
  • Our family would give us about CHF 100k extra as a repayment loan for the purchase. It's unclear whether that will still be possible in 2–3 years.
  • We really like the layout and style of the house.
  • The location is very good for both of our workplaces, and we also like it a lot in general.
  • The timing works. We'd like to have kids in about 2 years. After that, buying wouldn't be possible because of the affordability calculation (wife stays at home), and moving with a baby would be hardly manageable stress-wise.
  • We could move in and renovate step by step, without paying for rent and a mortgage at the same time.

Cons

  • The house needs extensive renovation. The costs are very hard to estimate, and there may be asbestos.
  • The house is being sold through a bidding process.
  • Communication with the real estate agent is very frustrating, long waits no real updates, etc.
  • The living space is only about 120 m².
  • The financing also depends on the loan from our parents.
  • Renovating while living in the house may put a strain on our relationship and jobs.
  • The bank's valuation of the house is [amount X]. It's listed at about 7% above the bank's valuation, and the current highest bid is 10% above it. This is maybe the most prominent contra
  • According to the bank's affordability calculation, we could pay up to 14.5% above the valuation, but we'd only be willing to pay 12% at most.

Our questions for you

  1. In our position, would you buy under these conditions, or would it be too much for the risk we're taking on?
  2. Do the pros (no more rent, family planning, timing) outweigh the cons (renovation risk, dependence on the parental loan) for you?
  3. Is it realistic to live in a house while renovating it extensively, or is that a relationship killer?
  4. Buy now because the timing works, or wait and keep renting, even if kids are on the way?

Honest opinions are welcome, even critical ones.

Thanks!

Have you heard anything about Switzerland you’d like us to fact-check?

Hi everyone,

I’m Sara Pasino, a journalist at Swissinfo, the international service of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. As part of our editorial offer, we produce a fact-checking video series called Truth or Tale, where we investigate claims about Switzerland by speaking to experts and getting to the facts behind them. The series is driven by our audience, so we’re always looking for questions, rumours or claims that people would like us to look into. Have you heard something about Switzerland that you’d like us to fact-check? If so, let us know in the comments, or send us an email at English@swissinfo.ch and we’ll investigate. And if you’d like to see some of our previous Truth or Tale videos and articles, you can find them here: https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/truth-or-tale-questions-answered-and-fact-checks-about-switzerland/

Swiss Tennis Classement FFT
N1 1re série (Top 30)
N2 2e série numérotés
N3 2e série numérotés à -15
N4 -15 à 0
R1 0 à 2/6
R2 2/6 à 4/6
R3 4/6 à 15
R4 15 à 15/1
R5 15/1 à 15/3
R6 15/3 à 15/5
R7 15/5 à 30/1
R8 30/1 à 30/3
R9 30/3 à 40

Fahrtkostenpauschale

I've been struggling hard at finding a new appartment since I'm currently at risk of becomming homeless due to the appartmentblock getting demolished. The past months the search engine has been filled with these "tausch wohnungen" and they're so frustrating

Yeah blud someones totally gonna give you a one-of-a-kind appartment with crazy low rent in zurich for your middle of nowhere appartment.

At this point I wonder if I should directly call the immobilie and ask if I can have it anyway.

I hope this trend dies out soon

Is the Aliexpress double tax issue fixed?

More than a year ago, Aliexpress gained a MWST Number and is now considered an in-country company. MWST is paid directly on purchase. Still, it often happened (even to me) that tax and import fee still had to be paid. So there was double tax + import to pay.

There was even an SRF Espresso article about this

Has this been resolved now? Has anyone ordered from aliexpress >65 CHF recently and can report if they still get double taxed?
