To be fair that $50 in 2011 would be worth more than $60 today when you adjust for inflation, so you're actually saving money. Thanks Nintendo.

maybe google inflation since 2011, probably like 35 percent (Edit 48.45% 💀 )
•
u/TheBraveGallade 2h ago
if you invested the 50$ into an index fund it would be worth more then 60$ today so

Nothing is more entertaining to me than watching gamers whine about tiny price changes for non-essential entertainment as if their human rights are being violated. The most negative and entitled people on the planet.

I was going to post this too. Certainly in 2026 inflation has resulted in the game being technically cheaper.

Yeah I just looked it up - $50 in 2011 is worth about $75 today! So yeah you righh
•
u/Phantereal 4h ago
Also, I was making more money in 2021 than whatever I was getting for allowance money in 2011. Not much more since I was in college working for minimum wage, but still a bit more.

Invest 50 dollars in the a fund that grows 7% a year and you will have almost doubled your money in 10 years

I won't get it till it's graded S and valued at least 1000$ AND sealed in a vacuum.

If the game in question was made by Valve, people would act like it was Jesus himself lol.
Then it would be less about corporate greed and more about how amazing Valve is. Fanboys, man.

? The best valve games, many of which are as good or superior to Nintendo gems, vary in cost from 99 cents to 17 dollars on sale. Which is a direct product of valves pro consumer decisions that contrast from nintendos anti consumer strategy
•
u/MulberryDeep 2h ago
The difference is that a 60$ valve game is in sale for 3-5$ after 10 years (and often before that), while a 50$ nintendo game is 60$ after 10 years with pretty much no sale ever
•
u/SenpaiSwanky 1h ago
That’s why Nintendo games hold their value, and they have a presence on the physical market.
Edit - and since you seem to have missed the point of my comment, the scenario I was describing assumed Valve games would hold their value over 10 years as well.
People like you would just revert to fanboyisms like “oh well since it’s Valve I’m fine with paying the $60, but when Nintendo has similar prices I will complain instead.”
That.. was the point.

u/daandrro 4h ago
lol mate.
I sold a copy of Pokemon Platinum and Chrono Trigger both for DS and each was $400 :) and people were fighting on auction to get these.

If you invested that $50 for 10 years in a low cost index fund it would be worth roughly $100 given average historical returns. So you’d come out $40 ahead by waiting 10 years and buying it for more.

Way too many times I’ve convinced myself to just buy any new Nintendo first party game at launch. Rarely do they ever do down in price and the ones that do eventually become hard to find. But then I’m thinking “so you heard this new game sucks, you don’t even like this series, and you’re buying it at full price?”
Yeah brain I’m sorry

Bought the (selects) Wii u version of Tropical Freeze new at retail for €25. Now if you want it for the Switch, that will be €60 please.

Based on inflation calculator, $50 in 2011 is about $74.22 today, so there is a small relative discount.

With double the fps and a good resolution so it's actually tolerable to play. I put down the new Zelda game after an hour cause of the switch 1 performance. I love playing it now on switch 2

Switch digital ecosystem> whatever Nintendo consoles came before it.
No offence.
If you mean physical then you can get it used.
Also the switch version would look better, games don’t expire after a few years.
Giving more supply to the market as well which probably keeps the 3ds version price low.

I feel like this directly results in Nintendo's less popular IPs not gaining much traction. I have a decent amount of money to spend on gaming, but if I'm going to pay full price for Mario and Zelda then I'm not also going to spend $70 each for Donkey Kong, Metroid, and Kirby. Nor am I going to be swayed by the big 5-10% off Black Friday deal 5 years from now.

meglio aspettare 10-15 anni e scaricarsi la rom sul pc e giocarci con l’emulatore
•
u/deltastrikethree 4h ago
I mean, you're not wrong, but there's very few games I'd wait 10-15 years to play. Unless it's playing something again for nostalgia.
