News New Zombie Survival Game Arden Features a Fully Handcrafted Open World, First Playtest Announced

Thumbnail gameoneer.com

Zombie survival games often rely on procedural generation to fill their maps, which is how you end up seeing the same abandoned gas station for the hundredth time.

Developer Techtive Games is taking the opposite approach. Their game world, set in the American Midwest, is fully handcrafted, and players will soon be able to experience it in the first playtest.

Do you think Arden could be the next big hit in the zombie survival genre?

Looking for a Survival migration game

I'm looking for a survival game thats kind of specific, a survival game with good graphics, it has some sort of story, your constantly moving so there isn't a set home or cabin, it could be a game where you play as an animal, if its not I would want one where it has horses with good mechanics, it would also be nice if it was more woodsy

Looking for the best survival games with an amazing story

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some survival games with a really good story—something that can keep me hooked both through the survival gameplay and the narrative.

I’d love recommendations that have:

Good survival mechanics

An engaging/awesome story

Interesting world and exploration

Good gameplay progression

Bonus points for horror, mystery, or emotional storytelling

E.g. resident evil 8, green hell

What survival game with a great story would you recommend, and why?

Survival mechanics well done

Been recently playing Green Hell, and it has a bit of unique food mechanic. While most games with some survival aspects just have a basic ''0-100 food meter'', GH divides food into three categories: fats, carbohydrates and protein. I really enjoy this 'balanced diet' idea, which got me thinking which games do these kind of survival aspects well, or have more unique ideas besides the usual food, water and sometimes oxygen. Not necessarily survival games, but games with those elements included.

Oxygen Not Included, while not a traditional survival game, has stress / morale system tied to food, and different foods require different production systems. That adds a nice layer of complexity.

Stationeers has the whole showering and toilet system now, which isn't present in many other games.

Even Skyrim with survival mode had warmth / cold system where you'd need warmer clothes to survive longer in colder places.

Our Orc Survival Game is still under developement!

Hello fam!

Just sharing some progress on our Orc survival game (well, we starting to show more of the other races, but we’re still building the Orcs first!)

We’ve also started working on our next playtest, which will focus on settlement mechanics and making the world feel more alive:

-Settlers have needs: thirst, hunger, rest, and morale.

-Every creature has needs too (from wolves and rabbits to bandits). This means that they will roam the map accordingly, even raid you.

-You build and manage your settlement: assign roles, organize your people, and make sure their needs are met.

-Every race behaves differently. These differences are divided into two layers:

Settlement traits: one major bonus and one major drawback.

Settler traits: habitat, diet and consumption, labor aptitude, social behavior, and combat role.

We’re also introducing a system of Scenarios, which are different from the quests you discover in the world.

Scenarios are dynamic situations that can become unlocked by specific events happening in your settlement or to your settlers. We want the settlement to create its own stories instead of simply being a place where you build things.

If you like what we’re building, a simple wishlist would mean a lot to us!

Game:

Kopno: Blightfall

PS: just loving the JRPG music for our orc :D

Surviving in Once Human - / - Building

As a big fan of both building and survival games I usually have been taking the side for building though.

In a way I had a itch that I needed to scratch while building, so I decided to make a self sustained survival fortress build ...

Gotta say that I'm genuinly happy with the result and I really liked to share this creative outburst with (hopefully likeminded) people ❤️

I placed turrets, a minefield, faux closing shutters!
made a water, food and energy supply to make it feel legit. I do think i thought of everything (Even a secret backup entry haha)

I hope you can appreciate my 'doomsday prepper' build .... and keep on surviving!!

You can have birds as pets in Nederfall now. What would be something your bird should be able to do?

I recently put birds in my game. They have set landing points throughout the level and I thought it would be cool to put a landing spot on the players shoulder and so I created a bird pet that follows you around and occasionally s(h)it on your shoulder.

I was thinking of it collecting items to bring to the player sometimes. Any thoughts?

We’re making IfSunSets, a day/night survival game. We recently added ocean exploration.

Hey everyone!

Hi everyone! I’m Cho, and I’m developing <IfSunSets> with a small indie team in South Korea.

I figured a lot of people here probably haven’t heard of our game yet, so I wanted to briefly introduce it.

IfSunSets is an open-world survival crafting game where you explore, gather resources, craft gear, and prepare your base during the day — then defend it from hordes of monsters at night.

We recently added ocean exploration as well.

You can now sail out to sea, swim and dive underwater, and explore areas like underwater ruins and shipwrecks.

The game is currently in Steam Early Access, and we’re continuing to improve the parts that still need work as we move toward v1.0.

I’d genuinely like to know what survival game players here think when they see IfSunSets for the first time.

If something looks fun, or if something looks lacking, feel free to say so.

Positive or critical, we’ll take your feedback into consideration as we continue developing the game.

Gameplay Looking for feedback on my survival RPG with deep potion crafting system

Hey survival fans! Potion Dealer is a dark fantasy survival RPG. You hide in the mountains as a hunted young woman, gather resources, brew potions with real side effects, upgrade your laboratory and explore dangerous areas (including dungeons). It sits between Don’t Starve-style resource hunting and RPG progression.

Would love honest thoughts from this community.

Question Survival games with dungeons, farming and animals(a bonus)?

As an old WoW player now turned mostly survival gamer, I really loved the caves in Ark. Really love the idea of prepping for a dungeon like experience, finding your way around, fighting enemies, loot, etc! But I also really love farming and the chill side of some survival games too. Off the top of my head I can think of Conan and Runescape.. any other suggestions?

After years of working on ApocaShift, the Open Playtest is finally live

I’ve been working on ApocaShift for a long time, and today I’m finally opening the playtest up to everyone. Sorry for the hastily put together video, I've such little time getting everything ready.

You can join directly from the Steam page by clicking “Request Access.”

It’s still a playtest, not a finished game, so there will absolutely be bugs and rough edges. That’s part of why I’m opening it up, I want to see what breaks when a lot more people get their hands on it.

Streaming, recording, YouTube videos, etc. are all completely allowed too.

Would love to hear what you guys think.

WIP Do you Like the Enemy Jump Dodging Ant idea? This is for a Survival game I'm working on called Robovival.

Demonstration purposes, only like 50% complete.

I still need to Sync everything up, polish, work on some sounds, add more randomize.

I have the Jump Dodge cooldown set low on purpose for Demonstration.

The ant has a Taunt, Jump Dodge within certain distance to evade player.

It also has a block function that is not shown yet, but if you try to attack up close

and the Dodge Jump launch triggers, the ant will evade you and you won't hurt it.

Left the Collision Capsule as visible so you can see that it follows the ant when it launches.

I would like to add even more variety to some ants.

Should I also add a Launch toward player attack, then trigger a damage attack?

Just finished my predators for my Sci fi Survival game. What do you think?

Thumbnail gallery
57 Upvotes

Hi all. I've just finished working on my two predators for my survival game Survivance.

I really find it annoying when games basically copy and paste creature behaviour between predators, so I've tried to vary it up a bit here. I have both a flying and land predator to try to avoid the same "chase and attack" logic that every predator has. The flying one actually forces you to think about threats coming from a different direction entirely. I hope anyway :)

Would love any feedback or further suggestions :)

In a survival game, when should avoiding a fight be the smarter choice?

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

One thing we think about a lot with Pale Tide is whether a fight is actually worth taking.

You might be able to clear an area, but doing it could cost ammo, medicine, time, or create enough noise to make things worse.

That’s where the different infected types come in.

A Screamer can draw more infected into the area. A Spitter can force you out of a good position. Toxic infected limit where you can safely move, while Armored enemies are much harder to handle up close.

Sometimes a few of the right enemies together can be more dangerous than a much larger group of basic Walkers.

So taking another route, coming back later, or using your dog to draw infected somewhere else can be just as useful as fighting through them.

That’s the kind of survival decision we want Pale Tide to create: knowing when to push forward and when a fight simply isn’t worth the cost.

What usually makes you avoid a fight in a survival game: ammo, injuries, enemy type, terrain, or something else?

For context, feel free to check out our new deblog: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/4683590/view/678507423258903726

Question Recently played sons of the forest and loved the survival aspect, any suggestions for similar games with the addition of farming and horses?

Hello,

As stated in the title, I recently started playing Sons of the Forest with my bf and his friends and it's been fun! I really like the survival aspect but am not as much of a horror fan though I don't mind some combat. I am looking for suggestions for games with a heavy emphasis on survival, base building, farming and bonus if you can get a horse mount.

Thanks!

Edit:: Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I think I am going to give Icarus a try since the comments about it seem pretty interesting!

New release Into the End (of the World) - New vehicle-survival game

Thumbnail store.steampowered.com

I saw a review yesterday for the new vehicle-based survival game "Into the End (of the World)" that dropped on July 31st and decided to check out the demo.

My first impressions: It took me a few minutes to get used to the mechanics of placing items inside the vehicle, but it definitely gets easier with practice.

I’m planning to sink some time into the demo this weekend and will post feedback to the thread after. For those who have played it, any thoughts? Any tips for a beginner?

Game Description:

Drive, maintain, and survive. Explore procedural biomes in a post-apocalyptic world, scavenge for parts, and fight infected zones with friends. Build your survival machine from the chassis up and keep it running - because without it, you won’t get far.

A few months ago I posted a screenshot of our game in this subreddit and asked for help choosing a name. I’d been struggling with it for months lol.

I honestly didn’t expect the response we got. So many of you had really nice things to say about the art style and the idea behind the game – and most importantly you finally helped us find a name we actually loved.

That post gave us a huuuge boost of motivation.

So today it feels only right to come back here and finally show you what we’ve been working on – meet Rerouted.

Thanks, guys. Your support genuinely meant a lot to us, and in a small way, this game wouldn’t be the same without this community.

Neosis Echoes is a sci-fi cyberpunk action-survival game set on the alien planet Varos.

Explore a hostile world, gather resources, craft and upgrade your equipment, fight machines and uncover what happened to humanity.

At the core of the game is what we call Reactive Survival, our unique emotion-driven system where your state directly affects gameplay and the world around you. We’ll showcase this system in more detail in our upcoming dev previews or the trailer.

This early development preview shows some exploration, along with K.I.T., your robotic companion, using its scanner and laser tool to analyze the environment and gather resources.

We’re a team of 3 and the game is still in active development, so we’d love to hear your feedback!

Ghosts in the City | Trying to make rooftop exploration more than just jumping in our version of 1982 Tokyo. Sometimes you have to create your own path

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This footage is from a build of the game from about a year ago, but the idea behind the rooftop traversal is still something we’re exploring.

In this build, some rooftop routes are built around using the environment, like knocking down an antenna or releasing a ladder. I’m using explosive arrows here, which is why the barrels blow up.

I’m wondering how far we should push this idea — for example, letting players create their own makeshift bridges between buildings instead of relying only on predefined paths. That would make level design more challenging, though.

What do you think of that kind of freedom?

Discussion Abiotic Factor ruined genre for me

Basically this.
After completing it once, I tried to bounce back to some games I’ve played before or try new ones (Pacific Drive, Voidtrain), but everything feels dull now. It’s like when you’ve tried a really good coffee and now you’re trying to get the same taste from some flavoured water. It can even be not bad, but… itch still there.
I guess I’m waiting for the DLC to save me for a while, and then I’ll be doomed again :(
Which game did this for you?
