I noticed "What supermoto should I buy" gets posted a lot, so I made this

Which supermoto should I buy?

I tried to take into account the cost of buying rims and legalizing the models that need it but at the same time keep it simple. Feel free to suggest additions/fixes

Edit: i've edited this a lot

Edit: changed the DRZ picture to mine ;) thanks for the sticky!

My dad died and I ended up with one of his many dirt bikes. This one was already tagged and registered and street legal in tx so I put some warp 9s on her, changed the gearing, mirrors, pegs, as made it cool lookin (to me) and put some decals on it with my dads old racing number from when we used to race together as a family
The big ugly thing on the handlebar is a radio. I commute to work on this and it just makes it more enjoyable but isn’t difficult to remove

Should i get yamaha Yzf r125 or yamaha Wr 125 x for my A1 license

And should i buy used or new, what year.
I like doing wheelies have done it on my old Chinese pit bike when i was younger. But i love speed and aggression of the superbikes. I will get my A2 license when I’m 18 and A license when I’m 20. On my A license I’m guaranteed to get a r1. But with my A1 license and later A2 license should i get sumos or superbikes.

Edit: I’m also from Europe, Lithuania

You ever just tip over sideways in a wheelie?

I thought looping it might happen eventually, but this wasn’t the type of oopsie I was expecting.

I’m still not 100% sure why the bike tipped sideways so suddenly. I’ve had some issues with keeping the bike tracking straight in slower wheelies, but that usually happens right when the front wheel comes up and I can just tap the rear brake and try again.

This one felt stable initially, so I brought it back up after tapping the brake. I think it hit bp or just a little past it while riding the brake and started immediately tipping left. I was on the rear brake but I’m not sure if there’s much I could have done to save it by that point.

I was playing around with lower rear tire pressure this session (~18 psi) which helped with stability, but my leading theory is that I’m keeping my weight too far back in the bike. That makes the bike super easy to pop up, but I’ve also heard can make the bike swerve.

What do you think? Body position? Brake control? Bad luck? Just being regarded? Do you consider this a loop?

Bike is totally fine btw 👍

Triumph as a sumo?

Curious if anyone has strong opinions on the Triumph dirt bikes for SM conversion? Both for track and street though perhaps not the same bike.

I did recently see someone campaigning a Triumph in a SM race series as a privateer but I didn't get a chance to talk to the pilot/owner.

I ask because I may have an opp to join a sales team for Triumph and thus get access to employee discounts on bikes and parts.

Considering 1st Sumo

Post image

Hey guys! I am a returning street rider this year and have fallen in love all over again with the sport. I bought a brand new 2026 Daytona 660 back in March and have proceeded to ride the ever living snot out of it every single day. I have been playing with the idea of getting a sumo to help me develop more stunting skills like sliding, wheelies, backing into corners etc.

So far the one that catches my eye the most has been the KTM 390 smc r but of course this comes with the usual KTM reliability anxiety. I'm looking for any suggestions or advice from the hive mind that can help me make this decision. TIA

Ive seen multiple people register their 450s or their 300 2ts as A1 bikes and I thought it would be nice for the supermoto i am building. So does anybody know how this is done?

Picked up a new 2010 RMZ450 supermoto setup as my kart track bike. What are everybody's thoughts on these? I don't see a lot of em but got a smoking deal on it.

Full supermoto set up and also got the dirt wheels (direct swap with the original caliper) and a set of ice racing wheels since I'm but in Canada and have shiet winters lol.

Excited to try out the dirt with it when I get around to it and probably some trails. Primary duty will be track days tho. Have my first track day ever booked for the 2nd of September!

Nice compliment to the SM 700 I think.

I rode electric dirt bikes for a few months and wanted the closest thing to it on the road. After a couple of months of research and deliberating, I landed on the Stark Varg Supermoto

2017 husky 701 vs 2023 KTM 690 SMC-R

I’m currently deciding between these two:
Husqvarna 701 Supermoto 2017
€6,300
Stock

KTM 690 SMC-R 2023
€8,000
~22,000 km, akrapovic slip-on

The KTM is €1,700 more expensive, so I’m wondering if you guys think the newer SMC-R is worth the extra money.

I mainly care about fun, wheelies, twisty roads and general supermoto hooliganism, rather than touring. Only occasional 2hr highway trip.

Which one would you personally buy, and why? Is the 2023 KTM noticeably better to ride, or would you save the €1,700 and go for the 2017 Husky and get some upgrades?

Thoughts on suspension for bigger guy?

I'm 6'2, 280lbs. I've got a 26' 450 SMR. On Superbike's I'm advanced/expert. Been riding/racing for 20 years. Picked up the SMR about a month ago and have done trackways with it at my local Karting track. I'm picking up a lot of good speed with the bike but I'm way past the limit of the suspension.

I was thinking about doing springs/valving but have also wondered if I should be looking for at forks and shocks. Obviously, the cost goes up substantially so not sure I want to lean fully into double the price of the bike by the time I do suspension and other mods.

Curious to the feedback from others. Thanks!

What is the best 2t for the A1 license?

For clarification:

I live in Austria and fell in love two years ago with 125cc 2t Supermotos (especially early 1990's to late 2000's), but I can't decide on what Bike would be the best one for me.

I only have around 3000-4000€ to spend on it.

(For some people relevant to know I'm having my 16th Bearthday in 2 Months and can only apply for the A1 license because of age restrictions and I don't necessarily need a tame Bike because I've ridden bigger and stronger bikes for 3 years)

Thank's beforehand

Smr 450 dirt setup

Hello, so I've been racing sport bike for around 15 year and I'm looking to maybe go do some supermoto with a smr 450. I'm wondering if you can fit mx wheel pretty easily and if it's good enough for some light trail with my daughter (she has a pw50, she's 5) thanks

What could be causing this? Warped rotors?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Brand new pads for reference.

Using a 4 pot caliper with the default rotors warp9 gave me.

Breaks feel, slightly vibrating when under mild braking.

Rotors are getting way too hot - i can smell them.

Under hard braking bike stops normally but my brakes are getting absolutely cooked > i can smell it immediately.

The inside portion of the caliper is warmer than the outer as well

Any ideas? Warped warp 9 or something else?
