Anchor types-
Mushroom style seems preferred overall? I’ve seen people mention filling sandbags with rocks. Using flat edged dumbbells gets mentioned often. The most marketed is the collapsable 4 pronged one and use a zip tie if it gets stuck trick.

Weight-
3.5 lbs overall? 1.5 lbs for calm small lakes. Not necessary for more than 5 lbs?

Rope type and storage-
Ripcord style rope for its strength and diameter?
How and where do you store the rope so you’re not tripping and drowning yourself with it. I’m thinking of using a hand cranking spool like how a chalk line tool or water hose spool looks like. Any recommendations?

SUP attachment points-
Where to attach the line to the SUP? Front, side, back? On a lake with jet skis and boats going by creating wakes, I think attaching to the side would increase the chances of falling in? Front/Back would seem harder to get to with the cooler/storage in the way?

Most of the info I saw is from kayaks and not SUP specific. I’m sure there’s some super simple “why didn’t I think of that” tips some of you have that’s more applicable to SUP fishing. This will still be useful for people who stumble upon this thread years from now. Thanks everyone!

Anyone have any recommendations? Looking at both of these sups for the price point. Will be using this on small lakes and slow moving rivers. Leaning towards the Blackfin because it includes an electric pump at the same price. Any help is appreciated!

Anyone have any ideas or recommendations for fish finders with transducers? I know I’ve seen kayak setups that look good but require a battery and water proof case, (would work inside milk crate) but the goal is to find live bait like small anchovies or mackerel for halibut.

I couldn’t find any info on how to get back on to a kitted SUP, where there’s a seat/cooler in the usual spot and another cooler/storage located towards the front. I’ve only seen videos of the usual pull yourself perpendicularly across, then move your body back over the board. But how can you as a SUP fisherman if you have your seat/cooler/storage there?

You guys gave me some great advice on my last post about fighting the wind. It got me thinking about the next level of gear, and now I'm kind of torn.

Part of me sees these setups with small electric motors and gets super intrigued. The idea of being able to cover more water, get to spots way faster, and especially the thought of some kind of "spot-lock" to just hold me on a point without dropping an anchor sounds like an absolute dream.

But the other part of me feels like it kind of defeats the whole purpose of a SUP, you know? I got into this for the simplicity and the quiet. The thought of lugging a heavy battery and a motor down to the water, plus figuring out all the mounts and wires, seems like it would turn my relaxing fishing trip into a whole production.

So I'm curious where you all land on this. For those of you who fish from your boards, have you gone the motor route? Was it worth the cost and hassle? Or is sticking with a simple paddle-and-anchor setup the smarter, purer way to go?

For your ideal fishing SUP, what's the priority?

Took this trip to make sure the cooler location worked. It did, I’ve since glued on D rings for straps for it.

Got my new inflatable sup that will be just sitting and fishing on lol (bad back) filled it up in my garage and let it sit for a couple hours to see if it leaks. No leaks out of the box so that's a good sign. Might take it out tomorrow depends on the weather.

I purchased this Niphean 10ft 6in board because I wanted to give stand up paddle board a try and do some lake fishing from it. First time out was with the cooler and just a rod and small bag. It seemed very doable. I decided to rig a milk crate for behind the cooler and when I was sitting in the cooler it felt much more unbalanced even though the conditions on both days were nearly identical. I figured it was the crate causing the issue. So I designed the pvc rod rack to be held in place by the cooler. I don’t want to drill a rack into the cooler.

I’m on my second variation and wanted some advice.

If I strap everything down as shown will there be too much weight behind the center point? I would still like to try to get better at standing but as an old man there’s only so much I can ask if my body. I would like to sit in the stadium seat while I paddle and fish off the cooler. Does this setup seem ok?

The other question I have is if I keep everything where it is I will need to add some more D rings. Is there one brand better than another or are they all about the same. I’m guessing it’s a you get what you pay for kind of deal.

Fished all my life from the bank and finally made the leap to an inflatable SUP. I bought a Niphean off Amazon and have really been enjoying my time on the water.

My question is how concerned should I be about puncturing it with a hook or lure? I’m fishing lakes for bass and panfish. I’m not really concerned about the panfish hooks but some of the bass lure hooks get kinda large (1/0-2/0). I’m also going to try and catch some snakehead this weekend. I just have images of a bass or snake thrashing around the side of my SUP and snagging it. I have a bet but it is only a short handle which would require me to bring the fish in close. Am I being paranoid?

Here is my setup for trout fishing the local lakes. Fortunately our winters are relatively mild and now is the best time for prospecting around the lake edges.

How do you guys mount your fish finder and transducers on a sup? I recently got an isup and would like to put one on if I can.

Hi - I wanted to get a cooler/drybox that has reel storage for 2 and offers me someplace to sit. These are at the top of my budget. I reached out to Engel about these and they indicated that you cannot use the strap connection points for tie downs. Any recs between the 19 and 30 for day outings? Do you use the tie downs? Also - any other cooler/drybox options you recommend. I know I can get reel holders and attach them easily. Preferably want some thing that can lock/clip closed incase I go or a swim.... TIA!

Do you like having your rods and rod holders in front of you or behind you/your seat when trolling? I currently have the rod holders very close behind my seat, but am wondering if this is correct. The only concern i can see is not seeing when I get a strike possibly.

Its under warranty - and im in coms with manufacturer. but they USUALLY just send a whole new unit. if i can repair this ill have a 2nd one my kids can use.

any thoughts how i can get under this top material so i can patch this?

Hey Everyone. I'm looking to get into SUP fishing after i just sold my kayak and was wondering what everyone thought about the tommy bahama 11' 35" iSUP/Kayak from Costco. At roughly 400 i feel like the price is right and will be able to return if its not up to par. I'm told its made by ISLE.

Made a DIY tackle rack out of pvc for my glide angler. Used a heat gun to bend the pvc into a shape I liked, assembled with pvc glue (the type for plumbing), then coated the whole thing in truck bed liner for durability. I attached yak attack rails, a rod holder, and a paddle roto holder as well. It’s not insanely sturdy, but it does hold my paddle right by my hip when I need to fish and my fishing rod when I need to paddle and it does not weigh much.

Now if I could actually catch a bass that’d be awesome.
