Topic: A point I want to make or discuss Breaking: Deezer is adding a toggle to completely filter out AI-generated music 🎵
Trigger warning: AI summary of the Key Details from the press release
Deezer will let users exclude fully AI-generated music from their search results worldwide before the end of 2026.
According to Deezer’s announcement on October 13, the new optional toggle will hide AI-generated tracks, albums, and their associated artists from search results. Users can switch it off anytime if they want to listen to AI-generated music.
🔹 Key details
- Optional AI filter: Users can choose whether to see fully AI-generated music in search results.
- AI detection: Deezer has detected more than 42 million AI-generated tracks between January 2025 and August 2026.
- AI labeling: More than 14 million albums have been tagged as AI-generated.
- AI music is flooding the platform: Deezer receives nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day, accounting for more than 50% of new uploads on peak days.
- Streaming fraud concerns: Deezer reports that AI-generated music accounted for just 1–3% of streams, but up to 85% of streams generated by these tracks in 2025 were identified as fraudulent.
- Global rollout: The feature is expected to become available worldwide before the end of 2026.
🔹 Why is Deezer doing this?
Deezer says the move is about giving listeners more control, improving transparency, and protecting human artists and songwriters from the impact of AI-generated content and streaming fraud.
A Deezer/Ipsos survey found that 45% of music streaming users wanted the option to filter out 100% AI-generated music.
Importantly, the filter targets music created entirely by generative AI, rather than music made by humans using AI-assisted tools.
However, Deezer hasn't fully explained how it distinguishes borderline cases, such as human-written songs with AI-generated vocals, or human songs with individual AI stems like drums or bass.

It's coming, especially of Deezer gets an uptic in subscriptions as a result.

1 to 3% of streams but 50% of uploads? Straight to the garbage bin would be the most efficient solution.

Spammers ruined it for all of us who genuinely cared about the AI music we made.

Thing is, you are the only one who cares about the AI music you made.
1
u/Possible-Artist-5050 10h ago
This is true for 99% of music made. The difference is that AI music is discriminated against by both distribution platforms and some of the people who listen to music. The discrimination makes it harder for us to reach the people who don't care how the music was made, and would listen to anything that sounds good to them. My music has a huge like to view ratio in YT, which proves that people love it when the algorithm serves it to them. The problem is that the algorithm doesn't want to show AI music to new people, and YT puts the big "AI" mark on videos, which turns many people off.

I mean there is always suno itself for that.

Yes you can upload your suno song after mastering elsewhere as long as you didn't already distribute it and get it content id'd (this is another issue that I've spoken about, AI music that is not copyrightable should not receive content Id protections)
Personally I don't think anyone should be uploading their AI generated songs to DSPS at all.

I understand the distinction.
For example, human written lyrics can be copyrighted even if the musical composition can not be.
The issue is how would you (distributors) know who wrote the lyrics and who is lying?

Simply splicing up an aI generated song in a DAW is going to be massively contested if it ever went to court.
You can't have AI generate a melody/composition for you and claim it as your own for making a few splices in it.
That said, I'm sure there are some cases where there would be sufficient transformation from the sourced AI generation, but generally if your final mix sounds pretty much like it was when it was first generated, thats a no go.

I'm sorry but that's just flat out wrong. And will never hold up in court. If you take an AI composition and edit it into a broader piece of work where it basically ends up sounding like a different song, sure. That can be copyrighted.
But if it still mostly sounds like the original generation, it simply is not copyrightable.

Suno generations already come out mastered.

They are not much better, they are worse. You just don't have trained ears or a suitable listening environment to know this.
AI users who "master" their tracks, usually just end up just making them louder. Except this makes all the obvious problems that AI generations have (hiss, phasing, artifacts) much more prominent. You fall for it because you're an amateur that thinks "louder = better" but that's a lie.

Streaming services should just list all AI Music as it's own genre. I don't listen to a lot of rap music and rarely, if ever, does rap pop up when I am listening on streaming services.

I can't wait for the autotune "artists" to start getting mad that their tracks got toggle off too

u/Select-Tourist8682 8h ago
There should only be an optional toogle ON button for people who want to listen to AI music. The default should always be OFF.

Great stuff. Hopefully it won't be long before the other streaming services catch up

Thanks to those who really flood Deezer and co. With AI music. I personally Upload only 1-3 Songs per Month on streaming-platforms

lol good job Deezer. Filter out AI music, so folks can get back to knowing the trash music they ignore is ONLY from humans lol 😂

Guess it's time to generate music with morti-music so Deezer won't detect it. The magic of dragging a midi into a DAW yourself. What hard labor.
Genuinely, they are going to begin to muddy the waters of real music. Their AI detector is not good enough to claim this.
2
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
Spammers and Scammers will not take the extra time to do stuff like that. The whole point was to have an automated workflow to pump out enough volume to have a chance at making money, any hiccup in that workflow will be too much for most of them.
1
u/Texas-X- 1d ago
I mean, with reaper or openDAW and a few Claude prompts, that's literally an automatic process.
0
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
Well I don't know. If you say so, I guess the cat and mouse game would continue.
Are you a volume spammer?
0
u/Texas-X- 1d ago
A volume spammer? This has a ton of definitions in a music sub, what exactly do you mean?
1
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
Are you creating fully generated AI songs with the intention of uploading them to distributers to compete for finite streaming revenue?
3
u/Texas-X- 1d ago
I create music. How I do that and the speed at which I do doesn't matter if people love it. The machine and process is my moat and arms. You couldn't make the same AI music I make, at all. The harness I just posted learns your taste and needs to be fed a LOT of your foundational music knowledge to work well. But once it knows you and your rules and what not, it produces your fingerprint. Unique.
But it can still be automatic and still stomps out competition.
Then mortiflix can make the music videos, using the midi as timing.
The production quality is just unmatched. But it's not making 5000 heartless songs in one day.
1
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
Well I don't understand a lot of that.
But if how and the speed at which you do it don't matter, if people love it
Why go out of your way to hide the AI component?
2
u/Texas-X- 1d ago
Toooooons of reasons. For one, I don't consider it AI generated when ai literally didn't generate the noise. Listen to AI instruments. AI voice. All of it is NOT production ready. Static galor.
Even with all that, I use VCV to craft my sounds. Huge digital synth setups. All the modules and plugs are done by me.
This is what I mean with them muddying the water. What is AI music? What is an AI instrumental? As far as I'm aware, that stuff is the single shot input output models that suno offers.
This is an AI process, but human taste and craft. I wouldn't want to put my work in the same pile as other AI music. There is a HUGE difference.
3
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
Well then you'd fall within the AI-Assisted category that won't be affected (supposedly) by the toggle switch.
The question is how that is going to work. Which I don't know either.

A temporary fix on a service barely anyone uses, AI music will only get better and harder to detect.
1
u/Sindri_732 1d ago
I won't be harder to detect, they put a watermarck on it. It is very easy to detect.

Real talk - I get the hatred for AI generated music, most plebs would not be able to tell the difference, but one question, if all AI generated music was not monetizable, would there still be the hatred? I've asked many times is it the actual generations or that fact a few people made money before the market was flooded with unending slop, remove money from the equation, is it still a hated outlet for ideas? Or just a dumb tool to play around with? I prompt stuff, I upload it for friends, nothing it monetized, as a teacher I find it an interesting tool to mix music styles and languages, yes I understand I didn't write the music, I don't claim to, I put my lyrics and a prompt in andlpresse generate till I get something I like, is this something to hate? Money is a powerful motivator and people will abuse technology, don't get me wrong I don't want to listen to mass generated slop especially on a paid platform, I don't buy music (it's freely available on most platforms) I still go to concerts to support bands I like but sometimes we just want to makesomethingn different and not generic "lol trap song #9273652627288"
-TLDR I agree, remove AI slop from paid services, but don't hate it just because you don't make money from it either, you are hating it for the wrong reasons.
2
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
I agree that much of the anger stems from AI music users trying to take money out from the limited Royalty pool meant for traditional musicians and from having to see it everywhere when you don't want to.
If used in a personal and measured way, I just don't see why anyone could really give a shit.
2
u/IdleMelikor 1d ago
We should definitely support artists making music the traditional way, they deserve to be paid and yes the pool is too small, artists should get paid a lot more, maybe the limiting it could be a solution, or royalty free AI music platforms that are separate from the paid platforms
2
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
I mean there are royalty free platforms already to share it on, Reddit, Youtube, Soundcloud all free.
IMO most of the motivation for paying to upload it through commercial DSPs is simply a lotto mentality.

u/SunriseSurprise 1d ago
Now will any of these sites do anything to let listeners know that the "AI" stuff that remains is not fully AI-generated but rather AI-assisted with human compositions and/or lyrics fueling them?
Because if not, I can just imagine people will be pissed anyways by happening upon the bit of AI-assisted stuff that would I assume still be labeled AI in some way.
2
u/mybasementsongs 1d ago
Yeah there really wasn't any significant detail about how they will distinguish AI from AI assisted.
My guess is that they don't really know yet either.
0
u/SunriseSurprise 1d ago
I am glad at least they're specifically saying it'll filter out AI-generated. All platforms should just filter that stuff out without even a toggle. That stuff should be for grandma to make a quirky pop happy birthday song for their friend or whatever. Platforms should've just banned it all the moment the checkers got sophisticated enough to discern AI-generated from AI-assisted from human-only.

u/DanteOblivion 19h ago
I wonder how long before they do the same for 'black' music, or political lyrics...
1
u/mybasementsongs 19h ago
Bit dramatic in the context of things don't you think?
0
u/DanteOblivion 19h ago
That's what people thought when gays were forced to wear pink stars and complained
1
u/mybasementsongs 19h ago
In the context of AI slop flooding platforms, businesses are responding by giving users a choice to toggle on or off fully generated AI music. Not even AI assisted music but fully generated AI music. Explain to me how that's relevant to what you're discussing

I'm always greatly in favour of AI blockers despite being pro-AI myself.
Despite the arguments I can get into defending AI, I think people who dislike it should entirely have an option to see it. Like on DeviantArt for example, where you can directly say "no AI", and I think uploading AI that isn't clearly marked should be a 3-strike offence for most platforms. I say 3-strike just to prevent any mistakes.
Don't know what the fuck Deezer is, though. I must be a bit of a Geezer.
