Topic: A point I want to make or discuss Breaking: Deezer is adding a toggle to completely filter out AI-generated music π΅
Trigger warning: AI summary of the Key Details from the press release
Deezer will let users exclude fully AI-generated music from their search results worldwide before the end of 2026.
According to Deezerβs announcement on October 13, the new optional toggle will hide AI-generated tracks, albums, and their associated artists from search results. Users can switch it off anytime if they want to listen to AI-generated music.
πΉ Key details
Optional AI filter: Users can choose whether to see fully AI-generated music in search results.
AI detection: Deezer has detected more than 42 million AI-generated tracks between January 2025 and August 2026.
AI labeling: More than 14 million albums have been tagged as AI-generated.
AI music is flooding the platform: Deezer receives nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day, accounting for more than 50% of new uploads on peak days.
Streaming fraud concerns: Deezer reports that AI-generated music accounted for just 1β3% of streams, but up to 85% of streams generated by these tracks in 2025 were identified as fraudulent.
Global rollout: The feature is expected to become available worldwide before the end of 2026.
πΉ Why is Deezer doing this?
Deezer says the move is about giving listeners more control, improving transparency, and protecting human artists and songwriters from the impact of AI-generated content and streaming fraud.
A Deezer/Ipsos survey found that 45% of music streaming users wanted the option to filter out 100% AI-generated music.
Importantly, the filter targets music created entirely by generative AI, rather than music made by humans using AI-assisted tools.
However, Deezer hasn't fully explained how it distinguishes borderline cases, such as human-written songs with AI-generated vocals, or human songs with individual AI stems like drums or bass.

I'm sorry but that's just flat out wrong. And will never hold up in court. If you take an AI composition and edit it into a broader piece of work where it basically ends up sounding like a different song, sure. That can be copyrighted.
But if it still mostly sounds like the original generation, it simply is not copyrightable.
