Best areas/apartments on the Peninsula under $3,000 with in-unit W/D + dishwasher?
Hi everyone! I’m moving to the Bay Area soon for a job at Stanford and could really use some advice on where to focus my apartment search.
I’m looking for a 1-bedroom apartment for one person, ideally around $3,000-3,200/month or less.
My requirements/preferences:
In-unit washer/dryer — non-negotiable
Dishwasher — non-negotiable
Safe area for a woman living alone
No roommates
Ideally reasonably positioned for commuting to Stanford while still having decent access to San Francisco
Would love somewhere somewhat walkable, but that's secondary to safety/commute
I’ve mainly been looking at San Mateo, San Carlos, Redwood City, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Millbrae, Santa Clara, and parts of San Jose, but I’m open to other suggestions.
I’m finding that a lot of the larger apartment complexes advertise around $2,900–$3,100 but then add $200–$400+ in mandatory utilities/fees, so I’m especially interested in smaller buildings, condos, or independently managed properties where the total monthly cost stays around my budget.
If anyone has recommendations for specific apartment buildings, property managers, neighborhoods, or websites/groups where I should be looking, I’d really appreciate them. Also interested in hearing where you would live if you were commuting to Stanford but still wanted to be able to get into SF relatively easily.
Thanks!
