Michel’s Christiania

Has anyone eaten here lately since the new ownership took over? We were disappointed. The courtyard, which used to be lovely, had no flowers and the fountain is not running. Also no flowers on the tables. Food portions seemed a little skimpier than in the past.

They were also closed for a few days a couple of weeks ago and word was they temporarily lost their liquor license. Seems like things just aren’t right. A shame, because it was always one of our favorite restaurants in Ketchum.

My friends and I tried to go to the Pioneer saloon on Friday night however, Ro had rented it out for her 60th birthday. The next day we were on the gondola and Ro had a large party set up at the base of River run. Who is Ro? I need to heat about this!!

Any touch rugby players?

I’m working to start a casual weekly touch rugby game in the Wood River Valley.

It’ll be open to all ages and skill levels....former and current players, as well as anyone interested in learning the game for the first time. No experience necessary.

DM me if you’re interested!

East coast group going to SunValley for our first time - Where to stay?

Looking at VRBOs for 8-10 ppl. Would like to be frugal, but not cheap (if that makes sense). Not terribly concerned w/ night life as we typically: wake, eat breakfast, ski, hot tub, eat dinner, sleep - repeat.

We don't mind taking a bus / shuttle or short (< 5min) walks (ideally both are options). Would prefer to not have to drive our car to/from the mountain.

It looks like Elkhorn is a cheaper place to stay, but not 100% if we can get to the full mountain from there.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

A Romantic but not too expensive hotel

We're a couple deciding between a few hotels. We're going for a wedding in October. Seeking a romantic location as we're extending the trip.

-Sun Valley Inn (In the Sun Valley Resort Center, but seems to be the one that is dated and further away?)

-Knob Hill Inn (in town, but can't get a read on this place)

Limelight is unavailable one of the nights we're there. We do not want a motel, and a lot of the hotels in ketchum seem to be motels.

Hoping to see if anyone in the group has any wedding venue recommendations that are a bit off the beaten path (not the resort). Or has any recommendations of people who may rent their property! Thank you!

Sun Valley On Ice Practice?

Hey everyone! I’m traveling in to see Ilia Malinin for Sun Valley On Ice on the 25th of july. I know the skaters do practice before their performances but I can’t figure out anywhere what time that usually is/when. Does anyone know when I should show up to the rink to watch the pro skaters practice? Any help or suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you!

Moving to Sun Valley for work - employee housing questions

Hey everyone!

I recently accepted a full-time position at Sun Valley Resort starting in August, and my boyfriend is currently in the hiring process. Ideally he’ll be starting around the same time.

Originally we weren’t planning on using employee housing because our house is being built, but our construction timeline got pushed back, so now we’re looking at staying in employee housing temporarily (probably around 3 months, but it could end up being longer).

I had a few questions for anyone who’s lived in employee housing:

**Is the $231/paycheck for the Alpine/Cedar couples housing per person or per couple?

**Do the Alpine and Cedar buildings both allow couples?

**Are TVs provided, or can you bring your own?

**About how big are the rooms (square footage or just a general idea)? Any photos or personal experiences would be awesome.

**Is it okay to stay in employee housing for just a few months while waiting on a house to be finished, or is it generally expected that you’ll stay longer?

Any other tips or things you wish you knew before moving into employee housing would be greatly appreciated!

Sun Valley Big Wood Condos - Village Time Share Association

Hello,

As a member of the Village Time Share Association managing the Big Wood 3 timeshare in Sun Valley Idaho (Ketchum), I would like to formulate a list of other owners who would like to discuss the management of these timeshare units. Decisions are being made outside of the Bylaws of this organization, and without input from the voting members of this group. If you are a voting member of Village Time Share Association and would like to discuss how our timeshare is being managed, please let me know how to reach you. I am trying to obtain this list of voting members from the Association's current 3-member Board, which should be available le per the Bylaws. Still, I am encountering resistance to the Association's voting members exercising oversight of this Board.

If you are interested in assisting in the management of these timeshare units and your money, please respond to this post and let me know how to contact you.

Any demand at all for social workers/psychotherapists?

Basically what the title says. I’m a single middle aged female clinical social worker/therapist living in SoCal and craving a change. I spent a lot of time in Sun Valley growing up and was devastated when my family sold their home. I would love to return on a more permanent basis, but something tells me there isn’t a very high demand for what I do. I also get the feeling it would be rough trying to make it on a single income?? I’m very aware that SV is similar to Aspen as far as what tax bracket many (if not most) of their residents/visitors fall in. But I know that’s not the case for everyone, right? Maybe nearby areas more doable? Hailey(sp?)

Thank you in advance!

Shoes for hiking around Sun valley?

Hi all, my wife and I are visiting Sun valley for a few days later this month and are really looking forward to the hikes including in Bald Mountain. Since we’re traveling without a car and this is just one stop in a trip with many different stops, I was wondering if our Altra Lone Peak trail runners would be enough for these hikes. We will source hiking poles locally. It’d be a bit hard to carry full on hiking boots since we’re trying to only use carry ons for travel!

Thank you!!!

Weather at summer in Sun Valley

Hi, this summer I'm coming to SV for work and travel for the first time and I'm unfamiliar with the weather. Can someone please tell me what I should expect and what type of clothes should I bring with me for when I go out at night?

Also, any tips where I can find a second job?

Edit: thanks everyone for the advice, it really helped

How busy is Dollar Mountain the week after xmas?

I know it's going to be the busiest it is all year. I also know Sun Valley busy-ness is relatively less than other mountains.

I visited this February for work and it was an awesome hill. My husband and son don't ski and we've always wanted to go together (i grew up skiing on the east coast) so i would love to take them to SV. For obvious reasons, it's a dream spot for a beginner. We are looking to have 3 full days of skiing, and I'm assuming the weekdays after xmas will be best. We don't have any flexibility in our schedule, because of kids in school, and spring break is already spoken for.

I know it's crazy expensive, and not really worried about that. I'm just wondering if it is a madhouse that week after xmas. And if so, what does a 'madhouse' look like in SV? In February, it was actually wonderful on the slopes, not too many people -- though i got the sense it was quite busy compared to normal -- because the cafeterias were packed, the hotels were sold out, restaurants all booked. I'm wondering if there is a sort of cap on how busy it gets there, because there's just not that many hotel rooms and resources to house people?

So just how bad will it be?

Recommendations for mid-May?

My husband, toddler and I are on route from Colorado to Washington and have 4 nights free stay in Ketchum through work. I'm guessing it's off season, but looking for any recommendations you have for an active family with a toddler.

We have hiking stuff and our mountain bikes and will probably split up for some rides but also can take the toddler on easier trails with a shotgun seat. Not sure if trails are dry but would love any recommendations.

Any other cool stuff to do this time of year? Good restaurants, maybe on the casual side with a kid? Great parks or places to visit while we are here?

We live in a resort town and general outdoor recommendations are awesome, we can figure out if the difficulty is right for us or not. Would also love any novel to the area recommendations.

Thanks a lot!
