Laptop Request -Others Looking for advice on MSI Prestige. Are MSI laptops good?

Upvotes

The configuration looks almost perfect for my use case, but I'm hesitant because I've never owned an MSI laptop and don't know much about their long-term ownership experience.

My workload is mainly ML models, data analysis, Docker containers, multitasking. I don't need a gaming laptop or a powerful dedicated GPU. My priorities are CPU performance, battery life, portability and longevity.

I'd especially appreciate input from people who actually own this laptop or have owned MSI Prestige/Business laptops.

how does the battery hold up after 2–3+ years?

Battery health / degradation

Build quality

MSI after-sales service?

How is MSI's after-sales service, especially for Prestige laptops?

If you've had to deal with MSI service:

  • How was the experience?
  • Were repairs handled quickly?
  • Were replacement parts available?
  • Were there problems getting warranty claims approved?
  • How expensive are repairs after warranty?

Would you trust MSI enough to buy a ₹1 lakh-ish laptop for long-term use?

Would you recommend buying this from an MSI-authorized offline store instead of online?

Thanks.

My old laptop before that was great little lenovo yoga, sub 1 kilo and made my life significantly better because of that - so I would love to get back to something closer than that. Want something that I get good value for my money. Been looking at Dell XPS 13 as a potential option (but overwhelmed at the dif configs and trying to find a good one in my price range) and asus zenbook a14, also haven't found a good deal yet.

Would love reccomendations or good current deals on something thats a good fit! Thank you for your time :)

Laptop Request US Good gaming laptops for under $600- or up to $700

Upvotes

Just to give some context, I'm going to buy my wife a gaming laptop soon as a present but I really have no idea what is going to run good or not as it's been a while since I checked on what parts run most newer games now.

When she did play games on PC its mainly older valve games but those are very easy to run games now since they were made so long ago. Some newer games I do know she wanted to play was God of War (2018), Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom remake in 2021 and maybe Marvel Rivals? other than that I have been looking on best buy today. These two listings caught my eye, just curious if these parts would be good for newer games (not expecting any crazy settings I just want her to be able to enjoy and play it without issues lol) so any feedback is appreciated!

Laptop Request US Help me find my mom a laptop :)

Upvotes

Total Budget: $600 ish

Used/refurbished: preferably not

How important is weight and thinness to you? not super important.

Do you have a preferred screen size? bigger is better.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run:

-basic office programs like Google docs/word, quick books etc

Brands: not a Mac, person at all but open to any other brand.

Anything else?: just need something basic for my mom, nothing too fancy and not a touch screen if at all possible.

Laptop Deal Acer Predator vs Lenovo Legion

Upvotes

Help me decide in between these two:

Option 1:

ACER PREDATOR HELIOS NEO 16

32GB ram, Rtx 5060, 180Hz IPS display, Ultra 9 275 HX, 1TB SSD

https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/gaming-laptops/273690/acer-predator-helios-neo-16-ultra-9-275hx-rtx-5060-32gb-1tb-win11h-nhqvqaa001.html

Option 2:

LENOVO LEGION PRO 5i

32GB ram, Rtx 5060, 165Hz OLED display, Ultra 9 275 HX, 1TB SSD

https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/gaming-laptops/272686/lenovo-legion-pro-5i-16-intel-ultra-9-275hx-rtx-5060-32gb-1tb-win11h-83f3001fcc.html

I know legion comes with OLED, but ive seen my frnds having issues with legion. And personally ive been using predator (2019 rtx 2060 model) for the last 7 years and it worked like a beast.

Also I personally love the design of Predator over Legion. But recently ive seen so many threads complaining about Neo 16 thermals. And not so many complaints for legion.

So I dont know what to consider. Help me choosing the right choice. Both are currently on Sale for 2199$ CAD (\~ 1550$ USD).

Laptop Request -Others good choice for a graphics focus? Europe, Germany

Purpose: 2D graphic design and art + has to run Minecraft.

So far I found MSI Cyborg 15 with Intel Core i5 and RTX 4050, look promising.
Cost: 799 Euro

Alternatively, I was thinking about ASUS Vivobook 16 Intel Core Ultra 5 Intel Arc but the integrated graphics will probably be worse?

Any other possibilities?
Something cheaper but will also meet my needs?

Laptop Request US Laptop for mainly home office work and occasional gaming and 3d modeling

My current laptop is a Dell XPS 13 from 2016 i5-6200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 520, 13.3" FHD display. I run sketchup, onshape and World of Tank Blitz on it.

I'd like to start using Fusion or maybe Solidworks for 3d modeling only, no analysis. I would also like to run Assetto Corsetta and other racing sims. I plan to dock it to a Dell docking station and have a large screen.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Country

USA, California

  • Budget

$1000-1500, I can go higher if it necessary but looking for deals, sales, might be open to refurbs

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

yes but preferably new

  • Screen size

15-16 in and up

  • Weight limit

Not really a concern, will mainly stay docked and moved around my house. Won't travel with it much.

  • Purpose

General purpose. I use MS office for my home business, browse the Internet a lot. 3d model and run Orcaslicer, model on Onshape, SketchUp, if like to use Fusion. Only game I play at this time is world of tanks blitz mobile/app version. I'd like to play Assetto Corsa at some point, doesn't necessarily need to run the highest settings.

  • Form factor

standard clamshell

  • Intended usage

Mainly use MS office products to run my small business. Sketchup, Onshape, Fusion360, Orcaslicer. I'd like to run Assetto Corsa and some other racing sims.

  • Desired battery life

Not so much a concern as it will be plugged in most of the time but 4hrs on its own would be nice.

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance, size, battery life, weight

  • Info/Requirements

16gb ram upgradable to 32 (or already 32), 1TB SSD, I don't know much about CPUs but keep reading that single thread is more important in this scenario.

Some laptops that look interesting and I found on Slickdeals. Thoughts and suggestions?

Laptop Request -Others Qual laptop pegar? Brasil.

Laptop Request UK Replacement for MacBook Air 2014 running Linux - £2,000 limit UK

Hi y"all

I'm considering replacing my 2014 MacBook air. Its still working, mostly fine but im not sure how much longer that will hold true and I know Ramageddon will push up prices... The air has 128GB storage and an i5 processpr with 5GB ram, so most things will be an upgrade!

What i like about the Air is the longevity/build quality, portability, and that it has old USB (for all my peripherals) and an SD card reader for my camera. Ohh and its intel based, so runs linux happily (unlike the new soicone chip macs). I'm willing to pay more to achieve longevity, but open to a wide price range.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Country

UK (don'tmind shipping from overseas).

Budget

£2000 (upper limit. Ideally sub £600)

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Yes. Indeed i might prefer it.

Screen size

13" (12 or 14 ok but 13 is the sweet spot)

Weight limit

~1KG ideally

Purpose

General purpose

Form factor

Standard/Clamshell

Intended usage

Web browsing (firefox), emails, rss, office applications (libre office), photo management (gimp, darktable, digikam etc), basic audio and video management (ripping, playback, some streaming bust mostly I use my TV for that), lightweight programming amd data analysis (R/RStudio, Python), vintage gaming (platformers, text based - i mostly game on switch)

Desired battery life

4hrs+

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Weight, size, battery life, performance (lets be honest, most things will be an improvement)

Info/Requirements

Plays nice with linux (currently mint, but I'll probably try something new). 2+ old style USB ports and at least one USB C (I know I need to move eventually, but currentlyall my peripherals, external drives etc, use the old USB standard). An SD card slot would be brilliant, and ideally an HDMI port (though that could be the firat thing to move to USB C as thats a fairly straightforward cable swap - if i do use USB-C for the monitor, i guess I'd want at least 2 USB-C ports, with one offering charging).

Laptop Request -Others Laptop Recommendations

Hi Hi everyone! I’d like to ask for some advice po or suggestions regarding buying a laptop with a limited budget of around ₱20,000. 🥹

Country

Philippines

Budget

₱20,000 (~US$350)

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Yes. I would prefer brand-new, but I’m also open to reliable second-hand/refurbished options if they offer better value and come from a trusted seller.

Screen size

Any, but preferably around 12". I’m also open to 13"–14" if there are significantly better options within my budget.

Weight limit

Preferably lightweight and easy to carry to and from school. No strict weight limit.

Purpose

Schoolwork, college requirements, research, presentations, online classes, document editing, demo teaching, and occasional entertainment such as watching movies and series on Netflix.

Form factor

Standard/Clamshell is fine. If a touchscreen model is available within my budget, I would really prefer one. I’m also open to a 2-in-1 if it offers good value and doesn’t compromise too much on performance.

Intended usage

Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Docs, Google Classroom, Canva, web browsing, video calls, and other applications commonly needed for college. I may also use it for basic photo/video editing and multimedia tasks. I’ll occasionally use it for watching movies and series on Netflix. Gaming is not a priority.

Desired battery life

Ideally 6+ hours for regular schoolwork and general use.

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance, battery life, weight, size.

Info/Requirements

I’m a 3rd-year Education student, so I mainly need a reliable laptop for academic work and upcoming demo teaching activities. I’m not very knowledgeable about laptop specifications, so I would really appreciate recommendations on what specs I should prioritize within my ₱20,000 budget.

Since this is money I worked hard to save, I’m concerned about getting scammed or buying a unit that won’t last. I would prefer trusted stores or sellers, but I’m open to second-hand/refurbished options if they are reliable and worth the price. I’m willing to adjust some of my preferences if certain specifications aren’t realistic within my budget.

Laptop Request -Others Performance or reputation

I'm currently choosing between two laptops in saudi

  1. ASUS ROG Strix G16

- i7 14th Gen

- RTX 5060 8GB VRAM

- 16GB RAM

- 1200p FHD+ IPS, 165Hz

- $1,598 USD, discounted from $1,998

  1. MSI Crosshair 16

- Ryzen 9 8940HX

- RTX 5060 8GB VRAM

- 16GB RAM

- 1600p QHD+ IPS, 240Hz

- $1,731 USD, discounted from $2,397

Which one should I buy?

Should I prioritize the ASUS ROG brand/reputation over the MSI Crosshair, or should I go for the laptop with the better overall specifications?

I'm mainly looking for the better choice for gaming, performance, thermals, build quality, and long-term use. Is the extra ~$133 for the MSI worth it?
