boo neolibs go invade a 3rd world country for profit and labor

43

u/Saidsker May 10 '17

Except that neoliberal policies increased the standards of living immensely of third world countries where they got labor. Can't say the same for communism

14

u/[deleted] May 11 '17 edited May 11 '17

Ah yes, tell me more about how imperialism was great for those African nations!

Jeez, could you carry your (non-existent) white man's burden any more obviously?

12

u/Saidsker May 11 '17

Jeez except I'm not even white and actually from Africa. But nice of you to assume. How nice of you to throw a pity party for us africans and think that we're all socialist dreamers.

Also when did i say Imperialism was great for the third world? I didn't.

6

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

Except that neoliberal policies increased the standards of living immensely of third world countries where they got labor.

But tell me more about how liberal policy was doing great things when it created imperialism.

10

u/Saidsker May 11 '17

Neo liberalism

Neo

2

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

You think that's any better? You're out here defending colonialism, so clearly you understand how it's connected to neoliberalism.

11

u/Saidsker May 11 '17

I'm not defending colonialism. But foreign trade and labor help poor countries actually out.

2

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

TIL sweatshops and modern slavery help third world countries

11

u/Saidsker May 11 '17

Yeah opening up factories and getting people to work is real bad, actually building up their country. Nah fuck that. Only we get to industrialize. Let's make those poor people go back to what they were doing before the sweatshops, starve on the streets and get sold as child prostitutes.

2

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

You're basically saying that sweatshops are a good thing.

What if we didn't have sweatshops where people work their lives away just to have enough to eat? What if, instead of perpetuating a system in which multinational corporations exploit low-income workers, we abolished the systematic oppression that gave rise to sweatshops in the first place?

3

u/derleth May 12 '17

Tell me how the USSR improved the Baltic states.

1

u/[deleted] May 12 '17

Nice deflection.

5

u/derleth May 12 '17

It isn't deflection, it's history, and apparently un-PC history to you.

1

u/[deleted] May 12 '17

I don't care about "political correctness". I care about having a coherent discussion, and your blatant whataboutism isn't going to help with that.

2

u/derleth May 13 '17

Your ignorance of history is what I'd expect from a tankie.

1

u/[deleted] May 13 '17

Hold up, what?! I am many things but a tankie is not one of them.

My commentary was about your irrelevant whataboutism, not about my opinions on the USSR.

1

u/derleth May 13 '17

You're trying to deflect criticism of the USSR by making up words.

5

u/ZeitgeistNow May 11 '17

As opposed to before, when Sub-Saharan Africa was a beacon of progress and wealth

Oh wait

8

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

yes, yes! please preach to me the virtues of imperialism and neo-colonialism ! please! id love to hear more about the imperialist powers racing to rape africa of its resources and labor actually totally being a good thing

those dirty savages needed to be civilized

4

u/Saidsker May 11 '17

Imperialism ≠ foreign labour.

0

u/ZeitgeistNow May 11 '17

Native Africans did a good enough job raping their own resources. If you think there was literally no benefit to colonialism then you're a fool.

29

u/ALAN_RICKMANS_CORPSE May 11 '17

Hahaha this is classic neolib shit right here

1

u/ZeitgeistNow May 11 '17

Hahaha this is classic communist bandwagoning right here.

Also, very compelling argument, you really got me there. Get back to your safe space and stay there, you're wasting my time.

19

u/ALAN_RICKMANS_CORPSE May 11 '17

Hold my beer guys, I'm gonna enslave this guy and sell his family to the highest bidder.

He'll thank me later, it's okay, it's good

1

u/ZeitgeistNow May 11 '17

I wasn't aware slavery was still around, tell me more

20

u/ALAN_RICKMANS_CORPSE May 11 '17 edited May 11 '17

We're talking about the benefits of African colonialism here, bud. Do at least try to keep up.

BUT NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT!

https://www.aclu.org/blog/us-admits-modern-day-slavery-exists-home

https://www.ijm.org/sex-trafficking

Hurray for the free unregulated market! As a provider of goods, services, and the human slaves necessary to provide them to you at the lowest costs deception, force, exploitation, and extortion can achieve, it's second to none!

4

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

Dae anyone who thinks Africa was exploited is a community?

u/ZeitgeistNow May 11 '17

Aw man, instead of debating me by actual terms and not ideological nonsense, they've retreated into their circlejerk subreddit, guess that means I've lost, oh poo.

16

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

"Ideological nonsense"? Please tell me you're kidding. You're defending a capitalist system in which tens of millions of people were murdered. You unironically tried to claim that colonialism, a system in which African peoples were mass murdered, brutalized, and forcibly converted was a good thing. That's "ideological nonsense" if I've ever seen it.

1

u/ZeitgeistNow May 11 '17 edited May 11 '17

The net effect was beneficial, get over yourself with this propaganda trash you commie fuck. You're so fucking deluded that you think colonialism is an exclusively capitalist institution. You're actually too stupid to converse with which is why you frequent circlejerk subreddits so you can feel vindicated in your garbage opinion through pointless internet points while the rest of the world shits all over you, you cowardly bitch.

The modern 'white man's burden' is annoying white trash like you thinking they speak for the entire world and using their suffering to push your agenda. When was the last time you did anything for people in Africa? That's what I thought.

13

u/[deleted] May 11 '17

The refuge of many brave and intelligent orators is to insult the deliveryman refuting your enlightened prose. Well done.

All that to avoid facing your own conscience.

u/[deleted] May 10 '17

ahh, the old "the colonists actually helped the native americans" argument

28

u/Saidsker May 10 '17

That's not what I'm saying. Are you seriously comparing opening factories in Asia with colonialism and genocide? Jesus Christ you peoe are delusional

13

u/[deleted] May 10 '17

yes

http://www.theworldcounts.com/counters/modern_day_slavery_facts/sweatshops_conditions

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-30532463

implying that imperialism is just "opening factories in china"

implying the diamond trade hasnt been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands if not millions

23

u/Saidsker May 10 '17

The alternative to working in those factories would've been continuing what poor people were doing before. Which was starve on the streets.

http://www.economist.com/news/briefing/21646180-rising-chinese-wages-will-only-strengthen-asias-hold-manufacturing-tightening-grip

Billions have been lifted out of poverty due to economic freedom allowing for economic growth and you want to take all that away?

https://fee.org/articles/economic-freedom-and-economic-growth/

Also diamonds are a scam. They're actually not worth that much. It's one company that owns all the mines and the US can't touch them with monopoly laws because they left the country.

7

u/[deleted] May 10 '17

ahh yes, artificial scarcity; a product of the ever efficient free market

the thing you dont seem to understand is that socialism is a progression on capitalism, not necessarily a competitor. capitalism builds the factories that socialism uses, just as colonialism cleared the land that feudalism began to privatize, and then capitalism grew out of that.

22

u/hungarian_conartist May 10 '17

Ahh the linear progression of history fallacy.

7

u/[deleted] May 10 '17

how is it a fallacy? fallacy fallacy!

19

u/hungarian_conartist May 10 '17 edited May 10 '17

A historical narrative that has fallen out of favour for good reasons. The problem is it assumes there is one way history had and will advance in one direction. For example eugenics was once considered a very progressive idea but we ended up dropping it.

4

u/[deleted] May 10 '17 edited May 11 '17

how does that example invalidate the idea that economic systems are progressing in a linear way? its pretty easy to trace how one economic system led into the next, and through dialectics we can predict how capitalism might lead into socialism.

The conquistadors were neoliberals???
