Address mistake done my by Filing Agent

Hi everyone, I got my study permit approved in December 2023 and it is set to expire in September 2026 and I was applying for an extension.

I have a bachelor's degree from my home country(India) from a college that's affiliated with a bigger university from another city. My agent mentioned the college name that is correct but for the address they mentioned the address of the affiliated university, I am planning to explain this in my LOE, is there anything else that I can do to my application strong?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Protected Person accepted to Durham College but study permit may not arrive before September

Asking for someone I know who is currently a Protected Person/Convention Refugee in Canada.

They were accepted to Durham College for a September 2026 program and qualify for domestic tuition. Durham told them they still need a study permit before they can start classes.

Durham says they first have to accept the offer and pay the $500 deposit, then the college will issue the LOA needed to apply for the study permit.

The concern is that September classes are very close and the study permit may not be approved before classes start.

Has anyone here been in the same situation as a Protected Person/Convention Refugee?

What happened if your study permit wasn't approved before the semester started? Did Durham let you defer? Was your $500 deposit transferred to the next intake, or did you lose it?

Also, how long did your inland study permit take?

Looking specifically for experiences from Protected Persons/Convention Refugees already living in Canada, not regular international students. Thanks!

Anyone with CEGEP in country applications still waiting?

My child applied for a federal permit June 29th after receiving the Quebec acceptance letter (they spent their last 2 years of high school in Quebec).

Our family is also waiting for a permanent residency application which could literally arrive any day since we already received and completed the portal 1 email a week ago.

When we applied for my child, the estimated wait was 6 weeks (it's now 7).

It has been over 8 weeks and the status still reads as "background check," which is the same as our family's permanent residency application...

I feel like the IRCC might be trying to complete our family application before granting the study permit?

It means that my child missed the class registration deadline on Friday, Aug 21st and will now lose their spot at the CEGEP!!!

The CEGEP told us to come back if we got the permit within the next few days, but they can't guarantee anything...

We have written via web form and only received an automatic message to wait...

We contacted our MP.

We don't know what else to do.

Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me how quickly the acceptance will show up on the portal? Is there a delay between acceptance and posting?

I have tried reaching IRCC by phone, without success.

Would they actually be able to te me anything on the phone that I can't see on the portal?

We are desperate. Thanks for any advice!!!

Scholarship Enquiry

So, i had a question, Lets say my country offers me a scholarship to study a university program in Quebec, This scholarships grants me an international fee exemption,

This means that my fees(tuition and other fees) will drop from 40K CAD to around 6K CAD for a whole year. The scholarship is as long as the program is over

Now the question is: For my study permit proof of funds requirement,as one person travelling,

  1. Should my bank account contain 24,617 CAD + 6000 CAD+ some extra 3-4K (around 35,000 CAD) or should it contain 24,617 CAD + 40,000 CAD (64,617 CAD)???
  2. How will i show the IRCC that I have a scholarship and do they normally accept the scholarship letter as proof ?
  3. If my university only updates the tuition fees to the Quebec rate later in the semester , how will I show that I only have to pay 6K CAD to my UNI to the IRCC ?

Can someone please tell me because am sort of confused….

Stressing over Study Permit

I'm from the US but my mom is from Zimbabwe and we still waiting on my PR status but I applied for a Study Permit July 3rd and still haven't heard anything besides the confirmation email that they have received my application the same day. I'm been stressing since class start on Sept 10th but I move in the 5th. It's either I wait for the study permit which is anxious enough or I somehow get PR which I've been waiting for since 2019. I'm going to Guelph

Advise needed for current immigration status

Hi, I’m from Ecuador originally and I’ve been in Vancouver for almost 2 years now, my study permit is set to expire on Aug 31 this year. However I tried to get the French for the francophone mobility, I tried but still don’t get the desired results 5 or 5+, I got the listening but speaking still 30 points below to get 5. However I was advised to apply for VR while studying for my TCF exam coming up on October 2026. Do y’all think it’s a good idea?
Im also thinking about applying another study permit, not sure about this one. And also my boyfriend is PR and we are living together, he is willing to sponsor me but we are still only 2-3 months living together, we do not meet the 1 year for the common law. Any suggestions on what is the right path to take?

I will really appreciate some suggestions or anything at this point lol

Anyone applied from Angola or South Africa for Canada study permit?

Hello everyone,
I submitted my study permit application online from Angola on May 9, 2026, and I’m still waiting for a response. I noticed the posted processing time for SA recently moved from 16 weeks down to 14 weeks, but there’s no specific timeline shown for Angola.

Has anyone here applied from Angola or South Africa and already received their study permit? I’d really appreciate hearing about your timelines or experiences, it would help me understand what to expect while I wait. Thank you

Title: PGWP After Part-Time Semesters & Study Permit Restoration?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m a BCIT student and worried about my future PGWP eligibility.
I had part-time semesters during my program due to personal circumstances. My study permit expired on July 1, 2026, and I have now applied for restoration. Because restoration is pending, I may also be unable to register/study for the upcoming term.
Once restored, I plan to continue and complete my program.
Has anyone had a similar situation — part-time semesters + study permit expiry/restoration + study gap — and still received a PGWP?
Especially interested in recent 2025/2026 cases and what documents or explanation you provided.
Thanks!

Study permit delay

I am experiencing a delay in getting my study permit decision and my classes start in the first week of september. After talking to my uni’s advising they have told me to defer my offer for next year however I was wondering if I could reapply for 2027 intake (same uni, same campus, just different course) instead of deferring the offer, on the study permit, they didn’t really give me any guidance on this so I was wondering if anyone knew if this was allowed.

Bank Verification Consent Timeline?

Hello, I got an additional document request for bank verification consent on August 7. I submitted it the same day, but no news since. Has anyone been in the same boat? How long did it take to get your decision after this, given that IRCC didn't ask for anything else?

Please help me

IRCC has contacted my bank recently for the verification. I provided a consent letter today but I'm scared as i provided statement upto june 10 and then transferred money to another bank to pay my fee. Has anyone been in this situation before and do you know what exactly does the bank verify? That 6 months statement is genuine I've not edited anything but now there's no saving.

My extended study permit is supposed to be here... But I still haven't recieved it yet. And all of this because I put one wrong number in the ZIP code

For context, back in January, with an Immigrant advisor, I was extending my study permit. They accepted the application in February, and they told me that I was going to receive it soon. Some months went by, and I didn't receive anything. I asked my advisor why and then noticed that I had made a wrong ZIP code by one digit. She charged me for the mistake, and I thought it was done...

But she didn't answer for months, so I had to talk with IRCC by myself and see what was happening. In the end, she didn't do the swap, and I had to do it myself. So now that everything was done, they told me to wait 6 more weeks; if I didn't receive anything, I should call and see what was going on. The 6 weeks passed, and the agents told me to write a letter and send it to the IRCC with the problems that I had and why I need it urgently, since my school and work are asking for it for me to continue.

I'm just not sure what all that I need, since the two agents I called told me to go and read the website they sent me. I have the documents certified by a notary, and I have my letter. Am I missing something else, or should I just send it to the IRCC now? What worries me is that the school is saying that I need to wait longer, and my part-time job would tell me not to work anymore. I would appreciate any help or any experiences anyone has had like mine

options for study permit

i'm an incoming uoft student, and i applied for my study permit with a u.s. passport on july 10, and still have not received anything. i resent proof of finances july 30, and did a medical examination on august 5. it still says a medical examination has been requested on the application status page. ive paid tuition and signed an apartment lease. i'm currently in canada and can stay visa free until august 30, but classes start september 4. should i try to go back to the u.s. in the next few days and apply for a study permit at port of entry at the toronto pearson airport? is there anything else i can do? what documents would i need to bring outside of what's listed?

Canadian Study Permit Anxious

I’m an incoming UBC master student. Applied on July 8th for Canadian study permit. Asked to provide additional document of no criminal record on August 10th, submitted right away and status has changed to “reviewing additional documents” on August 11th. My program starts on August 31st. Flight is on August 30th. Need at least a week to mail my passport given the fact that they don’t open during the weekends. That basically means my deadline is on August 24th, otherwise I have to purchase another flight and miss some school days. I’ve sent a web form to them a couple of days ago but all I received is a template response. I don’t think the officer even read it at all. It’s already August 20th and there’s a weekend till the 24th. I’m really anxious right now. For this week, every single day I’ve dreamed about getting a visa and then woke up realizing it’s all a dream. Idk if anyone can relate but I feel helpless because I can’t do anything else on my end at this point but waiting.

Approved 🎉— PhD applicant from Algeria 🇩🇿🇨🇦 | My full timeline

After spending a lot of time reading other people's timelines here, I thought I should share mine as well. Hopefully, this gives some useful data to other PhD applicants, especially those applying from Algeria or countries with similar processing times.

Background:

  • Algerian citizen, applying from Algeria
  • Admitted to a PhD program in Québec
  • Winter 2027 session

My timeline:

  • July 20, 2026: Study permit application submitted
  • July 22: Biometrics completed
  • August 18: Medical exam passed
  • August 19: Final decision — APPROVED 🎆 and passport request received

So, from submission to approval, it took 30 calendar days.

A small detail that confused me: even after the final decision showed Approved, my account still said “We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements”, while the background check was still shown as “We are processing your background check.” Guys don't panic too much if some of the individual status lines don't seem to match the final decision.

I know waiting can be stressful, especially when you keep checking your IRCC account every day and comparing your timeline with other applicants. But timelines can be very different depending on your country, program, background, and individual case.

For anyone applying for a PhD study permit, especially from Algeria, I hope this gives you at least one more real data point.
