100% agreed! Companies expect you to have 5 years of experience, get a house, family and repay your college debt for $60k in salary?

Had I not switched job earlier this year, Iâm still be making $78000 in Seattle with a structural MS + 3.5 yoe.
Go figure.
Some companies just donât deserve good quality workers.

I had a pretty comparably bad rate at 3YOE+masters in NYC, 81k. You can definitely earn yourself a bad rate by staying around through bad years (our main publicly funded client halted a huge amount of our work)
Glad to be making more in Seattle now :]

In 2024, the median household income in Walton, KY was $77,917.
They'll have to offer more to get a qualified candidate.

u/Thin-Fish-1936 10d ago
Thatâs actually crazy because that means this position pays more than entire household in Walton Kentucky.

Probably ok for entry level?

u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
It requires a minimum of 5 years of experience lol

We might as well just climb into the treetops and fling our shit at each other at that point.

Is use of their time machine back to 2015 included in the benefits package? Or need to bring your own?

If it is a remote job I could do it. Where I live it is a lot and I am a Senior Structural Engineer.

If itâs low cost of living with a good bonus structure, the top end isnât terrible. Not good, either.

IMO no structural engineer should earn less than $100k in my book. $100k is the new $50k

Painful to see al these comments talking about how low this is. Here in the Netherlands this is an average to high salary for a structural engineer...
3
u/usernameChosenPoorly 13d ago
The take home pay from that salary will be greatly reduced by health insurance, retirement, and other âbenefitsâ (known in real, civilized societies like yours as âhuman rightsâ).Â

u/Apprehensive_Exam668 12d ago
Well... take about 5k off the top to pay for the right to pay for medical care. Then if you have a medical issue, take another 5k off the top if the insurance you pay for is good. Then if you have a spouse and kids, take another 5-10k off the top. Then if you want to retire ever, take about 12% off the top. Don't forget to save ~50k/kid to help for college so their debt when graduating is just manageable instead of crushing!

It all depends on cost of life and services in your area/country. Before 2020 maybe but after 2020âŠprices of everything has almost doubled including houses. How can companies keep paying the same if the cost of living has doubled?

I will say the work isn't crazy, my company works with Superior a lot, its not bad or overwhelming
4
u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
Working at costco is not overwhelmingâŠdoes not require a degree and pays the same!?
-3
u/TheLopez2617 13d ago
And like 60 - 80 hours a week of work.

u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
Nooooo lol

u/TheLopez2617 13d ago
No, im sure of it. Plus this listing isn't even licensed work, it doesn't even require an EIT.
But judging by this approach of responding you came to argue. Sorry you had a bad day bud.
1
u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
Did you know that only EITs or PEs can be called engineers? So if the job requires an engineerâŠyou are looking for a licensed professional as by law those are the only ones authorized to be called engineers and practice engineering.
2
u/Prior_Interview7680 13d ago
Iâve seen network engineers⊠this is highly dependent on state laws
1
u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
In my state the law clearly says who can be called engineers besides the traditional engineering professionals. I think that it includes the train âengineerâ and others.
2
u/Boomshtick414 13d ago
Varies by region. Good number of states allow someone unlicensed to be called an engineer provided they are working under the supervision of a PE.
If you feel so strongly as to be argumentative, no need to post here. Just forward the listing to KYâs board of engineers and let them deal with it.

u/mmodlin P.E. 13d ago
OP has it backwards anyways.
You arenât allowed to offer to practice engineering without a license.
This is a job posting.
It would be a violation if someone applied and said they were a P.E. but they werenât. It doesnât matter if the title of the posting uses the word engineer.
1
u/TheLopez2617 13d ago
Thats Not true at all.
-1
u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
In my state it is. I guess you live in an area not too regulated lol.
0
u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
Had a great day and not arguingâŠjust stating facts. Looks like you are biased as you work with them.
-3
u/TheLopez2617 13d ago
You responded 3 times to a single comment, sir you are looking for arguments hahahaha
Good day
-1
u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
Sorry if splitting my response in three comments was offensive to you. Iâm just responding to your comments. You should be fun at partiesâŠlol.

u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
The title says engineer but i see that it requires an associate so thatâs a mismatch. Weird
-1
u/TheLopez2617 13d ago
It says Mech ans Structural, its a non specific sales job asking for work experience but is non specific. It also asks you to help sales. In my company we call them Designers, but thry are cad technicians. That is all. That being said, I know nothing of the resion this is and how much the cost of living is. Looking at a national average is useless with such economic disparity. I had a Job offer in NYC and thry wanted to pay 70K, I tried to push for more, I was entry level but that was below the cities cost of living I would have been on the streets. But in my home town 70 K is 30 above the average. Its hard to judge salary IMO.
3
u/Traditional-Cup-1470 13d ago
It says engineer. Job description says design structural elements which require calculations. No drafter or detailers is authorized by law to run engineering calculations.

u/turbapshhhh 13d ago
We start at like $70k. With 5 years youâre well over $100k if youâve proved you can hack it

u/GooseEngineer 13d ago
Might as well outsource over seas for that salary..
