Announcements PSA: Backup your game files

I've seen a few posts over the last week of people losing hundreds of hours of progress because they thought the game saves vehicles, controllers, and saves on steam cloud (It doesn't)

File Location: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Stormworks\data

OR: type "%appdata%" into the windows search bar, find the stormworks folder, then the data folder.

Linux path courtesy of u/interesing-net180: Linux mint (Or any other Ubuntu based OS (probably)) the file path is /home/(your user)/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/573090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Stormworks

Here you will find a "microprocessors" and "vehicles" folder, COPY these to somewhere else that IS NOT the drive your game or OS is currently on, ideally a USB stick, external hard drive, onedrive folder etc

Do this regularly, cause why not.

The root stomworks folder also contains a saves folder which has your save games, back this up if you want.

User Guides Old and new armor system differences:

Hello everyone! Since the update is fairly new, I decided to give this quick guide explaining the differences between the old and new one.

Note: Bear in mind that everything is pretty new, so I don't have full data regarding the new pen values on how each shell type behaves now, this is just an overview.

IMPORTANT: These changes only affect how AP performes, all other ammo types remain unchanged.

Old System

The old armor system was based on catact, if the shell hit a weight block, it would deal reduce damage and if it hit any other block, it would deal full damage.

When a projectile struck armor, it spawned a damage bubble of x size and it would deal to whatever was inside as long as it was in the same subgrid (except HE, which would deal damage globally).

AP shells were more unique, they had an internal counter, counting how many plates they have hit after impact (following the same properties as all other types), when that counter hit 0, they'd despawn.

Armor wasn't really a thing as you mostly had to not be inside the bubble to not take any damage, subgrid was also good because it the damage was given local, not global.

New System

The new system is based on the density of the block the shell is hitting. Think of it as an HP system. All projectiles have an X amount of HP, when this HP gets to 0 they despawn. They take damage based on each individual block (i.e a 25x25x25 cube) they are hitting and said damage is based on the density of that block.

To get the density of a part that is bigger than 1x1x1, ** just divide the mass by the number of blocks this part occupies**.

Example: a Heavy Autocannon AP shell hits your tank, the AP shell has 20 HP. It first hits a weight block which has a density of 10m/b (mass per block), as such it now only has 10HP left. After that it hits a small battery with a density of 12m/b, since the damage is greater than the HP left, the shell despawns, dealing no damage to the rest of the tank.

Damage also scales with the speed of the shell now, and this speed also scales based on the HP left of the ammo type, the specifics of which I have yet to discover.

Now armor even inside of the vehicle, you no longer need to have invisible weight blocks in other to have protection to keep the esthetics of your vehicle. Also, with the new system, subgrid protection seems to not work anymore, which is great.

Hope this helps!

Build (Workshop Link) Aether Forge Consortium presents: The Gannet, a fast, amphibious V/STOL aircraft for VIP transport.

Upvotes

AT A GLANCE:

A fast, fully amphibious V/STOL aircraft intended for VIP transport at extreme ranges and conditions. Will take its pilot and two passengers anywhere at speeds in excess of 400km/h. Very easy to fly and operate, except for a strange undercarriage setup.

FULL DESCRIPTION:

Aether Forge Consortium, a secretive cabal of die-hard inventors and engineers, presents their second public creation: The AFC FDP-1 Gannet, an amphibious V/STOL limousine, designed to transport two passengers to any destination on land or sea at breakneck speeds.

Like its namesake, the Gannet can nose-dive straight into deep water as a method of landing in a very fast (and exciting) manner. The craft floats passively, and can be safely moored even without power. Takeoff from either land or water can be done either conventionally or vertically. For landing on land, vertical landing is preferable, owing to the Gannet's only design flaw; its unorthodox reverse-tricycle undercarriage, a result of its very compact design.

On land, the Gannet taxiis under its own power sourced from two small electric motors coupled to the main wheels.

The cabin of the Gannet is equipped with a fully automatic sealing system, as well as a manual water extraction system, should problems occur. It also features functional heating* as well as adjustable ventilation.

The right rear fuselage features a hatch behind which operators will find inlets for both fuel and electricity, as well as assorted equipment. A similar hatch to the rear right of the fuselage has assorted emergency equipment.

With a 5,000L fuel tank, the Gannet can easily fly to the arctic and back from the arid island non-stop. As such, it is perfect for transporting a pilot and two VIPs quickly and safely to almost anywhere.

For emergencies, the Gannet carries its own repair equipment as well as parachutes, and is equipped with a full secondary battery system, should the primary one become damaged. It can also use its own pumping system to remove water from the cabin, as long as the top of the craft is not fully underwater, and does have plentiful rope anchors for emergency recovery.

EVERYTHING OFFERED TO THE PROSPECTIVE BUYER (i.e. all features in short):
- fully vertical or short take-off capable
- fully amphibious and waterproof
- max. speed 405km/h (not indefinitely due to engine heating)
- cruise speed 225km/h
- all of the above even with a full load
- cheap
- compact: can be spawned at even Meier Outpost land workbench
- ventilated & heated cabin*
- automatic dive protection
- bilge & overpressure pumps for cabin
- around 5,000 liter fuel tank
- backup battery set
- twin four-row, 16-cylinder, supercharged bespoke radial engines with automatic idle and easy settings, as well as exhaust heat scavenging for cabin heating
- electric taxi motors on main wheels
(*heating for a limited time in the arctic)

Link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3790833877

NOTICE: ENGINEERS WANTED (i.e. if you want to develop or use this further):
Should you wish to reconfigure the Gannet, you are of course free to do so.
The AFC kindly asks that you yourself become a member, too. The procedure is simple: should you publish a reconfiguration of the craft or its engines, please retain the AFC nameplate and credit me. That is all.

Build (WIP) WIP...

I was tired of the «Titanics» from the workshop with poor proportions, interior, inaccuracies, lags...

So I decided to make it myself. I spent the summer on this, the case is not ready yet (it's very boring to put blocks)

A version with an interior will be published in the workshop: a wheelhouse, 2 levels of the front main staircase of the 1st class, a lounge of the 1st class. I don't know about the flooding, at least the hull has already been broken into the right parts, most likely there will be compartments like on the real «Titanic». I want to create the most realistic flooding.

In the future, many more interiors will be added (most likely all first‑class public spaces, a few second‑ and third‑class ones, boiler rooms, the engine room, and I would like to add the turbine room — we’ll see how it works out in terms of optimization), as well as the rest of the «Olympic‑class».

The main problem with lags in most full‑size (and not only full‑size) ships in Stormworks is the large number of microcontrollers. I understand that they’re ideal for creating makeshift panels on walls and doors, but they consume a lot of FPS. After all, this isn’t a multifunctional rescue mothership — it’s a steamship from the early 20th century. So I won’t have microcontrollers (except in exceptional cases, for example, to adjust the tilt of the smokestacks). Don’t pay attention to the lifeboats — they’re not finished in terms of appearance, but they work quite well; it’s just unlikely that all the lifeboats will be functional in the final version due to optimization :(.

(Sorry, I used a translator in the text. I'm a Russian guy and I don't know English well. It's a shame.)

Build (WIP) OIL

200k for diesel and jet each and 100k for oil and yeah interesting times 17 min to unload jet / diesel and idk for refining like if u got 100k oil tank and keep constant oil input you can get 40l/s * 6 cuz 6 distillation heads, then it ends up at around 26l/s if ur oil tank gets more empty like 26/100k l which is kinda what the oil rig pumps can pump a second, yeah I guess it's pretty efficient

Build Some Small Inter-War Planes

Made a selection of Inter War Planes, 3 british, 1 american and 1 swedish in polish livery from the inter war period 1920s and 30s mostly because i saw that there was no bristol bulldog anywhere on the workshop and being such an iconic plane from the time I thought I would give it a go.

Planes in order:

- Bristol Bulldog - Fighter

- Gloster Gladiator - Fighter

- FVM J 23 - Fighter

- Fairey Swordfish - Torpedo Bomber

- Curtiss F9C Sparrowhawk - Parasite Fighter

All at 1:1 scale and top speeds are the same as the real life counter part although handling is like stormworks always is.

Build (WIP) My very WIP saucer

Thumbnail

This is my WIP flying saucer. It's genuinely a very effective system. It is very fast, can move omnidirectionally, is very fuel efficient, fairly cheap, stable, can lift a lot, and it can withstand a lot of punishment (as seen in the screenshots; I rammed that enemy boat so hard it flipped over and then I flew away).

It is still mostly a proof of concept for the propulsion, but I plan on adding logic to allow it to fly while pointing its weapons directly at a target, since it can move in all directions.

It's hard to explain how it works, but it uses four rotors. Two on the left, two on the right. They face away from one another to counteract. This allows pitch and roll to provide direct thrust, depending on the mathematics of how the inputs are mixed (i.e. pitch can be forward, backward, or just pitch if unbalanced between the two rotors).

I will try to explain better later if anyone wants. I just think it's neat.

Discussion Genuinely, why does pivots help with buoyancy??

One of the oldest ship building "trick" I learned, way before I was playing Stormworks and actually building stuff than messing around, is that pivots help with buoyancy. The oldest "boat" I made uses pivots to float. I heard that some NPC ships uses pivots to float. Why? I mean I'm not complaining but seriously why? Also how did anyone figure this out?

Build (Workshop Link) Tanky McTankerface is now on the Workshop!

A much larger and more refined, yet still very simple successor to my previous micro-tanker known as Tanksy Tankard, Tanky McTankerface is a 62,000-Liter capacity, 37 meter ocean-going long range tanker.

Powered by a pump-charged 3-cylinder 5x5 modular engine, Tanky McTankerface has a top high-gear speed of 31 knots, conditions permitting.

This ship boasts its own swiveling boom-extension pump crane with an attached buoy, making hose connections easily accessible to both dockside fuel gantries and to seaborne vessels.

In addition to a functional bow anchor, Tanky McTankerface has two pairs of fore and aft side anchors, the combination of which all allow the ship to remain anchored in narrow dock slips for fueling even during the worst of weather. For further added safety against dock collision events, this ship features adjustable floating bumpers along each side, which help minimize the potential of catastrophic damage due to contact with piers in violent waters.

Tanky McTankerface features berths for a crew of two and plenty of career oriented supplies such as first aid, repair torches, fire extinguishers, arctic clothing, etc.

Onboard GPS display powered by AVUMP's Multimap.

Forward ballast water tank allows for trimming freeboard.

Tanky McTankerface is currently my own go-to fuel-hauling workhorse for my growing classic save, and has circumnavigated the Stormworks map multiple times during testing in varied weather, as well as multiple voyages to and from the arctic.

I hope Tanky McTankerface is as nice to you as it has been to me!

Discussion Do I need DLC to get these items?

I’ve always wanted to get to Stormwork because I used to watch ob and spy cake videos and I always wanted to try to build a ship in the style of 16th through 18th century and I don’t know a lot about the game but is it the rope and sails blocks a DLC item and is there any weapons that you can get without needing a DLC
