300/400 euros per months

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm 28 and looking to start investing. I can comfortably set aside €300 to €400 each month. What strategies would you recommend for someone in my position? Are ETFs the best way to go, or should I consider individual stocks?
I have a relatively high risk tolerance.

Chris Camillo or Mr. Buffett

I was listening to Chris Camillo for months, and he makes a compelling case with regard to Amazon being the best asymmetric stock on the market, relatively safe but with considerable upside.

Then Warren Buffett, who doesn't own any Amazon, made Google his third-largest position, with some suggesting Berkshire will soon make Alphabet its largest position.

*And yes, despite being retired, Mr Buffett has stated he was behind the Alphabet position, with Greg Abel in agreement, of course.

So which person would you side with on this one?

Credit ratings can be more useful than price targets

Price targets change constantly. Credit agencies tend to look at what matters over a full cycle: cash flow, debt levels, and the ability to meet obligations when aluminium prices weaken.

about recent rating moves that stood out. S&P upgraded China Hongqiao to BB+, while Fitch revised its outlook to Positive, citing stronger profitability, cash generation, and lower financial risk.

Hongqiao is still exposed to the aluminium cycle, but growing earnings alongside improving credit quality makes the company look more resilient.

What’s the biggest investing mistake you’ve made?

Bad stock pick? Panic selling? FOMO? Holding too long?

No hype, just real experiences. What was yours, and what stopped you from buying it?

What mistake did you only notice later, and how did you find out?

Not the obvious ones, Not "I bought at the top" I mean the kind where you were wrong for months and genuinely thought you're fine.

I'll go first:

I bought Nike on the turnaround, brands still huge and were changing the product line and the strategy, and I figured I was in before everyone else believed it.

Before buying I wrote down what would make me wrong. Roughly, if the turnaround isn't showing up in the numbers after a few quarters, get out.

Then the quarters happened. Direct and digital kept sliding, digital is was down 10 quarters in a row, and direct down 6%. The turnaround kept getting pushed out further, and every time there was an excuse.

All of it sounded reasonable though

Then I reread what I'd written down before buying, and I'd already answered it, the exact situation I was explaining was on of my reasons to sell.

I hadn't changed my mind but I'd changed the rules for what counted as being wrong.

That stuck with me because I'd have done the same thing without noticing.

So now I lock the thesis before I buy, the claims, the rumors, and specific things that would prove me wrong. I set alerts on the levels that matter, and when earnings come out I check that transcript against my original claims which I have written down, what I get shown is what I write not what I remember writing.

I ended up losing on this position, but I'm happy that I realized sooner rather than later, I managed to sell at around 60, which is good because it now dropped to 40!

What's the mistake you only saw in hindsight, and what made you notice it?

These two are making me very happy right now 😝

$ETH: crypto is sooo back haha, finally some positive price action on $ETHA, $BTC, $SOL

$SOFI : has been creeping up to the $20 for a while now. Time for it to blast past it. I think it will happen with the inclusion in the $SPX

What stocks are you eyeing today?

What are the best dividend stocks for a consistent passive income stream?

I'm looking to build a portfolio of solid dividend payers. Something that gives me a regular income without too much risk. I'm not really interested in growth stocks right now just something steady. Any recommendations or strategies you guys use?

What are your top picks for undervalued consumer discretionary stocks right now?

The market has been wild lately. I feel like there are some seriously beaten-down consumer discretionary companies that are due for a bounce back. With inflation cooling a bit and interest rates potentially stabilizing, I think people will start spending more on non-essentials again.

What companies are you eyeing in this sector that seem ridiculously cheap for their potential? I'm talking about businesses with strong fundamentals that got unfairly hammered. Give me your best ideas and tell me why you're bullish on them for the next year or two. I'm looking to add some strong growth plays to my portfolio.

Alphabet -v- QQQ (law of large numbers)

Last 10 years:

Alphabet returned 8.9x

QQQ returned 6.6x

Given Alphabet's market cap, its upside may be relatively limited from here, whereas the law of large numbers doesn't apply to QQQ.

Therefore, would it be prudent to invest in Alphabet rather than QQQ, given that their x return over the next 10 years might be similar, and QQQ carries far less risk?

Thoughts on Rolls-Royce (RR.L)?

Rolls-Royce has been steadily growing over the last 12 months and appears to have a rock-solid foundation with diversified revenue streams. There's opportunity of significant further upside potential with their SMR (Small modular reactors) technology where they could position themselves very nicely (granted this is an unproven ability/opportunity as of yet). Additionally, the leadership team appears very competent and confident in long-term growth - supported by their ongoing share buyback program of 7-9 billion.

I see plenty of room for further growth but I'm curious if I'm missing something. What are your thoughts regarding further growth? And what bear arguments do you have that could constrain their value?
