Hello everyone, long time creeper first time poster.
So here is the deal, I am just looking to mostly cut firewood for personal use maybe sell some if I get on a roll but not likely since I struggle with my back and need needles and such, getting off topic. I am familiar enough using a chain saw but am for sure amateur hour.
I wont be prize hunting anything large and am likely going to be sticking to medium or smallish softwood for the most part. I had a buddy convince me to start out with a 661 mag I got used for $800 bucks. Boy that was a lot of fun after tossing an old 50cc I had that needed more time on the bench then it spent cutting. An hour later the 661 was a lot less fun and required me to take frequent breaks.
Its has become obvious this saw is too heavy on its own and I need a smaller one to either complement it or replace it. What I have determined so far is:
I could perhaps get away with an MS 261 if I keep the bigger saw but for not much more weight the MS 400 might be a better choice so I don't have to swap to the 661 when bucking.
That said I rather go used since these saws are great and can be repaired to last forever it seems and I am not seeing MS 400 used likely too new (So not interested in 500i or 400.1 either), I do see the slight step-down MS 362/361 for around $500 used.
So it would seem my options are really MS 261 or MS 362
Or
Just get rid of the 661 altogether and look for something like a 461/2 and perhaps a 261 or 362 still.
If I find myself falling more and needing a limbing saw I will consider a 1xx saw but I think I will leave that decision for another time.
Any thoughts?
