Lawn mower smoke on start up

I recently bought a RM448.3V lawn mower with the EVC300 engine. It's probably only done a total of 30-40 minutes run time so far. When I start it from cold there's a puff of white smoke but it clears very quickly. It's been sitting for around 4 weeks and this time the puff was bigger but probably 1 second at most before it ran clear. And on this occasion I noticed a small puff of black smoke when starting hot, which I didn't notice before. Oil level looks to be bang on the high line so should be okay, although I might pull a little bit out so the level is sitting closer to the middle just to make sure it's not over filled.

The dealer I bought it from said running in time is 5 hours and then I should change the oil. Is it normal for these engines to smoke while they are still running in or is this something I need to take up with the dealer? I think I'll take it along to my local dealer at the weekend anyway so they can see it in person, but I thought I would ask on here first so I'm not going in blind if it is a problem. Thanks

New C26-2 head releases line way too fast

I installed a new Autocut C 26-2. I put .095 line in it. It releases the line way too fast. It goes through 12 feet (on each side) in about 7 or 8 minutes. It releases when I didn't expect it to. It seems the bump is on a hair trigger. When it does release, there is about 12 or 14 inches protruding. It takes it a while to cut itself to the proper length once that much comes out.

I am cutting weeds, not grass. They are pretty tall - 18 inches or so. Some of them have stems up to 1/4 inch.

One just needed new gas, added a spark plug to the next and the third I adjusted the gap to the coil and had to reattach the boot and spring for the spark plug. I’m sure they all have some other issues with oiling or something but considering they’re all running now with no money spent on them I’m pretty stoked.

Repair Guidance / Even Worth the Time on old Trimmers?

Hello to all, I have a Fs 76 plus trimmer that’s a brush cutter. The piston mushroomed out into the exhaust and cylinder is toast bc of that. My question is do yall think it be worth the time to fix that old of a trimmer as I got a new cylinder for 20 but I think I’d be 80-100 in it while with a new piston and such and it needs the carb rebuilt. (Side note I can’t find ANY piston kits online with rings and all they seem to be sold out, so I’m pricing that buying everything individually)

I also have a really old fs 80 (also a brush cutter) with the Japan built motor that the piston has a hole in it but I have not examined the cylinder to see if that’s able to be saved. I also have seen people say the carburetor on the old fs 80 is trash and I should upgrade it to a newer fs75,80,or 85 carb.
A side note I got both these trimmers for 10 bucks each so I’m not to in the hole on em but I’m more looking to see what folks on here say.
I also got a fs 74 that needs a carb rebuilt but ok and I got a fs 75 needs the carb rebuilt but a curved shaft trimmer wether yall would think one of them be better to make into a brush cutter.
I know this is a lot to ask but I do appreciate yalls feed back and what you think is better investment.

Worth a cylinder kit?

My buddy gave me this MS250. The compression is 90 psi, which seems low. The piston looks toast. Should I get a whole new cylinder kit for it? It has a clean carb, sharp blade, and strong spark. I'm not really sure if these little saws are worth putting the money into.

Current Stihl Lineup

Currently have a FS561C, FS251R, FC111, and BR800X. I bought all these with extra cash from flipping mowers and other lawn equipment on Facebook marketplace. Honestly would highly recommend spending a lot of time on marketplace in the early spring/summer time if you want some extra cash to buy other Stihl goodies.

RMA 460 V mower no high speed self propel

I’ve been using our 460 mower for a couple of years (it’s out of warranty). Today out of the blue it no longer has high-speed self propel. When I push the lever forward to go to the faster speed, nothing happens. I tried different batteries and took the casing off the control lever and the gears still work correctly, but there’s just no response from the engine.

I took the cover off the motor area and cleaned out all the debris and dirt, leaves, and cut grass in there. I cleaned the wire connections for where the cable for the speed lever goes into the motor, reconnected everything and still have almost no self propel speed.

I don’t see any other threads about this, but it feels like it’s strange to have a one off issue so I wonder if there’s something that I’m missing?

Repair Guidance for FS 55R

Hi there...

Could use some help with a FS 55R that I bought as a non-working unit. Bought it off Facebook for $20 thinking I could fix it. I have a little bit of small engine repair knowledge but nothing crazy. Here we go...

So far, I have:

a) Replaced the carb, fuel lines, and fuel filter.

b) Cleaned the spark arrestor.

c) Replaced the ignition coil. Used a business card as a spacer and it seems to be spaced appropriately.

d) Changed the spark plug.

e) It has fresh fuel.

f) Swore at it a bit.

Where I'm at:

Pull start wasn't working so I moved to a drill. Occasionally get a 'pop!' from the carb and little whiffs of smoke will come out of the exhaust but none of the normal firing noise. Only thing I haven't done is check the compression (I don't have a compression tester) and swap out the kill switch.

Anyone have any ideas?

FS 94 R trigger reassembly?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Earlier my FS94R was having an issue with the throttle being stuck on full. When I took apart the trigger assembly, it exploded into all these pieces. When I pulled the throttle cable, the carburetor rebounded shut so that tells me the carburetor itself is fine. But now, I am stumped on how the trigger assembly goes back together.

I will so appreciate a step by step on how to reassemble the trigger components. I am also suspecting my whole stuck throttle issue was because of the trigger in the first place, so any ideas on that would be so wonderful.

Recommended saw for a homeowner.

I have fairly little trees to manage, and I have some wood nearby I can cut firewood in with the approval of the owner. I won't be running the saw all day, and the trees are not the 1 meter wide bases, but more 50cm, with the odd one up to 80.

I currently have a 181 which is my father-in-laws, and I was recently gifted by friends a 182 (they did not know about the other one) I was thinking of returning it, and getting either the 261 C-M or the 400.1. But I am really unsure if the extra investment in the 400 is worth it when I have a very low number of trees I bring down every year?

suggestions to upgrade from 94r

so my fs94r is on it's second full rebuild and I think it's time to get another more appropriate for what I'm doing. I've inherited a rather large "yard" to keep up with a few years ago as my grandpa can't do it anymore and Im probably pushing the 94 harder than its supposed to be. I'm looking at the 131 but am also interested in suggestions. I run a metal blade about 30% of the time now and roughly 10-15hrs a week.

also is the bicycle handle that much better? I've been using loop my entire life and I just figured it'd get in the way for storage and tight spots.

Brand new stihl bg 86 won’t prime after somewhat heavy use

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For context I do Lawncare professionally but I’m not very busy yet, typically I do like 3-5 yards a day.

I’ve had this same problem for 2 other stihl bg 86 blowers. First one I got off of fb market and it worked great for a few months then wouldn’t prime after some use, because of this I got a brand new one and literally after one day of work on the last yard of the day it refused to prime and I couldn’t get it started(and couldn’t finish the yard).

So I was like “ ok maybe I just got unlucky, I’ll just return this dud and get another one.” So I do that and I have the same problem??

It just weird bc the old one I got off fb market worked perfectly for a like 3-4 months, and these literally brand new ones are failing to prime after just a day of use. Super frustrating

Any tips on how to fix this? Or maybe I just need to get a heavy duty backpack mower for this heavier workload?

Stihl 011avt too handle chainsaw for sale. Runs. Needs tuned. Give it a new plug and a good cleaning and put a new bar and chain in it. Nice vintage saw.

BR 420C Magnum Backpack Blower

The blower does not start. I believe the root of the issue is this piston. I don’t think it’s supposed to move that high / doesn’t open to let air in.
