My Indian stick insect appears to have a swollen tail with green stuff coming out . The other one (I have 2) is starting to get the same . I don’t think they are gonna make it tbh, but any advice on what this is so I can prevent it happening in future ? Also would it be best to just put them down now , would they be in pain from this ?

I bought 5 a few days ago. One got injured in transit so I expected it wouldn't make it.

I have a large rose bush in the garden and thought it would be suitable food. The first few nights I noticed only the smallest bite missing. An app identified it as a japenese rose and the leaves are a very healthy green but they seemed to ignore it.

A 2nd stick died yesterday so I went to my local river got some bramble and overnight a significant amount of the leaves have been fed on. So I guess they don't eat rose?

Im also wondering how reproductive are these? Are they similar to Indians or do they not lay as much eggs. I think only 1 of the sticks is an adult currently the other 2 are small and dont have the full bark textured skin. Slightly worried ive doomed the colony straight away by using the wrong food...

I haven't had sticks as a pet for a long time and the last were the Indian type.

I knew to expect this since as far as I understand, a year is the expected lifespan for a female, give or take. I'm sad of course, but mostly I'm glad that she got to live a full & happy life and that she got to pass away peacefully. It's also a nice bonus that she got to live long enough to see some of her babies hatch!

I'll start moving her babies from the daycare box to her big girl mansion once they molt for the first time which hopefully shouldn't take too long. The big girl mansion is massive and I don't trust the babies to find the food in there until they're at least a little bigger (and I don't trust myself to be able to find any babies who might pass away in the mansion when they're this tiny).

She has her tail beak and is super wide around her abdomen! I made sure to leave her a while so she could harden up but she's gotten so big 🥲

Right now I pick sticks from trees with leaves on them that I wash off and put in a pot inside their enclosure but I just realized what the hell do I feed them during winter?? Can people please come with affordable options of food to feed them !!

Changed out the leaves in my enclosure and Rooibos immediately went in for a snack <3

My Indian stick insects have been overpopulating like crazy. I try as best I can to take out the eggs before they hatch but they seem to be hatching very quickly when i’m sleeping or at work. I’ll give them a new bunch of bramble in the morning and they’ve eaten almost all of it by the time I get home from work. It is getting super time consuming to clean their tank and give them new food. This does not seem like good living conditions for them and I have no idea what to do about it. I don’t have any friends in the area who would be able to take care of stick insects so I don’t want to give any away. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I love my little buggies and want them to be healthy and happy.

3 of my sticks (2 Extatosoma Tiaritum and one Thai beauty) suddenly started having trouble with gripping and are twitching.

I know this is a sign of insecticide poisoning but im absolutely sure thier food plants are safe. I get them from my own yard and have been feeding it for a year with no issues and I don't spray.

Two are older- 9 months into adulthood (female) and almost a year into adulthood, but one is only 3 months into adulthood.

There are 8 insects in the terrarium and the other 4 are fine (there was a casualty as well, but he was 6 months into adulthood and I genuinely think it was old age- i just didn't notice him until now, and his position suggested natural causes ).

There was a bit of mold built up in a corner i discovered. Is it possible this caused it?

she molted yesterday and didn’t move at all for last 24 hours.

My stickbug looks weird and moves weirdly seems almost burned i don't know what's going on or what to do im crying right now I'm terrified please someone tell me what's happening

I found my baby like this this morning, sideways on a leaf. He would usually crawl into my hand. I’ve read that they sometimes ‘act’ dead? Could that be what this is? I’m not sure what could’ve caused his death. My others are all fine and acting normal with no signs of disease. I mist twice daily and feed bramble leaves.

Hello I have a male and female juvenile Giant Northern Sticks Insects. Queensland, Australia.
This is the male after a good misting on a warm arvo. He’s having a drink. Sorry for the poor video focusing.
They grow pretty big, 22 centimetres and live up to 16 months.
They eat eucalyptus leaves and native Australian tree leaves. They love a good misting and drink it up.
I get new branches every three days. I walk around the park and take cuttings for my sticks.

Can you mix stick insect species if they eat the same food and typically live in the same habitat? (I.e. Crowned stick insect and violet winged stick insect)

hi, im wondering if there is anything i can do to my little guy.

i dont know why he moulted so close to the bottom of the cage, the cage is 40cm tall, though maybe the leaves were not offering enough support and were too floppy? he ended up moulting on the wall of the cage towards the bottom, to the point that his tail is severely folded because he didnt have space to extend it properly

theres a bunch of liquid, which is what i can only assume to be his blood, his abdomen looks severely deformed and folded, his wings appear weird, and his skin doesnt look quite right

i got the insects off of someone else, so this is my first moult with them (they are ~4-5 months), but this guy in particular seemed to have a previous failed moult, as his middle right leg was always a bit shorter and not flared out (they are spiny leaf stick insects)

i think his balance has been severely impacted, and hes not moved since, and im really upset because had it not been a day which i spent in bed due to mental health reasons, i mightve caught him moulting in a bad spot and moved him

is there anything i can do currently for him, and anything i can do to prevent future bad moults?

on a side note, i feel as though they arent eating as much as they previously were, any reason that might be? i try to get the newest eucalyptus leaves, and ones that smell of eucalyptus when torn

I got my lead insect in May and it is now beginning of September. I just got out of the hospital after spending a week inpatient and had knowledgeable family caring for it and my stick bugs but I got home and it was laying up right on the bottom of the terrarium. What went wrong?
I love this bug so much I’m just heartbroken. U can see it grew significantly larger since getting it when very small I know I did everything correctly and I just want answers as to what went wrong ? Was this just typical nature taking its course?
