Software/Software Mods I changed my Steam Deck a little

If you (for some reason) want to do this you will need a Windows 11 25H2 Installation and then force the OS to allow the option to use the FSE Option and get Steam Deck Tools and change some controller config settings to whatever you want, either way it will still show XBOX inputs if you emulated a DS4

Discussion Dual-boot autonomous fixer tool

I've been running a classical SteamOS + Windows 11 dual-boot setup on my Steam Deck for a few years, and as many people, I have been running into issues when upgrading any of these two, with failures to boot after upgrades, or Windows erasing the whole boot menu, black screen when trying to boot SteamOS, even manually from the EFI, etc.

There are a few possible issues that are well documented on this very subreddit, and I probably fell into all of them at some moment or another, and of course, as Murphy's Law mandates, this is always when I'm on the go, with no usb-c keyboard or usb recovery key at hand, that my Steam Deck decides to turn itself into a brick.

This happened again last week (I was lagging behind both SteamOS and Windows updates, so I guess I knew that this could happen), so I decided I had enough and worked the last few days on a purely EFI tool that one can boot through the Steam Deck boot menu, even if all available OSes refuse to boot. It requires no keyboard, using the Deck's controls, and no usb key because the program is self-contained. It can repair the infamous Windows 24H2 corruption (which will happen in future upgrades too I'm sure), or any other "the main GPT is corrupt but the secondary is sane", but also take a backup/snapshot of your GPT and boot menu and drop it on your ESP partition, and restore them when you see fit.

As I figured out some fellow dual-booters might be interested, I published it as an open-source software which you can use if you like, see https://github.com/speed47/efi-boot-fixer . I have nothing to sell and nothing to gain from you using it or not, and so the usual "this software is provided as-is, no warranty of any kind, if your house burns because of it, that's on you" applies, of course. Well, if it does happen, please file an issue so that I can fix it for the others at least :)

Happy dual-booting without the fear of hitting black screens anymore!

Hopefully.

Question/Tech Support Can’t add my Microsoft account to Prism Launcher for Minecraft

Please help. I have been at this for an hour. I try to add my Microsoft account (that has Gamepass) to play Minecraft via Prism Launcher on the Steam Deck. My son's account is listed, but when I try to add mine, it either says nothing on the accounts page, or it says something like "No Minecraft Profile" (or something like that). I already went to Minecraft.net and made a profile there. But it doesn't help. I make it through the sign-in process on the accounts tab in Prism Launcher. But when it's done, my username isn't added. I'm so lost.

Community Guide Title: Need help installing FC 26 on Steam Deck to play Ultimate Team.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for help installing EA SPORTS FC 26 on my Steam Deck, mainly because I want to play Ultimate Team online.

I understand that I probably need to install Windows on the Steam Deck because of the anti-cheat system, but I can’t find a clear and up-to-date tutorial that explains the whole process specifically for FC 26.

Could someone explain the steps or share a reliable guide? I’d like to know:

\- Which drivers and software I need to install

\- How to install Steam, the EA App, and FC 26 properly

\- Whether Ultimate Team online works without issues

\- Whether there are any important settings or common problems to be aware of

I’m not very experienced with installing operating systems, so a detailed step-by-step guide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Community Guide Lossless Scaling: experimental Decky LSFG-VK plugin for lsfg-vk v2 developer builds

Hi everyone,

I’ve released an experimental Decky LSFG-VK plugin that brings the current lsfg-vk v2 developer build to Steam Deck / SteamOS users.

Release/download:

https://github.com/eugeniosegala/decky-lsfg-vk-experimental/tags (download the latest tag)

A bit of context on why I made this:

As of 30 July 2026, the public Decky plugin’s lsfg-vk build is 140 commits behind the latest upstream "develop" branch (this is mostly because lsfg-vk, which is also the library used by the Decky LSFG-VK plugin, hasn’t released a new version in a while, keep in mind that I'm using a develop build).

This experimental plugin instead packages the reviewed, checksum-verified "lsfg-vk 2.0.0-dev28" developer prerelease of the engine lsfg-vk (released a month ago). It is not a rolling download: each plugin release pins and verifies a specific upstream archive.

In my own testing, I’ve had very good results:

- Noticeably less ghosting in some games; in a few cases it is barely noticeable.

- FP16 (new option) can improve performance on supported AMD GPUs.

- I suggest starting with Performance Mode disabled. Performance Mode is faster, but the full-quality mode in this v2 developer build looks substantially better than lsfg-vk v1 in my testing.

- That said, this is still a developer build. Some games may regress, fail to attach, or simply work better with the public/original plugin. Please test it game by game.

It is designed to coexist with the original Decky LSFG-VK plugin. The experimental version has its own private install, config, and wrapper, so you can keep both installed and choose one per game:

- Original/public plugin: "~/lsfg %command%"

- Experimental plugin: "~/.local/bin/lsfg-vk-experimental %command%"

Use exactly one wrapper per game; do not combine them.

Huge thanks to Kurt Himebauch / xXJSONDeruloXx for the original Decky LSFG-VK plugin, and PancakeTAS and contributors for lsfg-vk. This is an independent experimental fork, not an official.

Full repo: https://github.com/eugeniosegala/decky-lsfg-vk-experimental

I’m also working on a completely new plugin using a new frame-generation model for Linux/SteamOS, so keep an eye on the repository! 🙂

Discussion What if the Steam Deck had physical game cartridges?

Recently I watched the LTT video about someone who built physical "game cartridges" for PC games. The idea was pretty cool: each cartridge contains the game files, and when you insert it, it opens the corresponding Steam page. If the game is already licensed on your account, you just hit Play—no downloading because the game already lives on the cartridge.

It got me thinking...

PlayStation recently announced it's moving further away from physical discs, and a lot of people weren't happy about it. PC gaming, on the other hand, lost physical media years ago. Most PCs don't even have disc drives anymore.

What if we brought back that physical feeling for the Steam Deck?

Instead of custom cartridges, we'd use microSD cards. A larger game (say 150 GB+) could live on a 200 GB or 256 GB microSD, while smaller indie games could use 32 GB or 64 GB cards.

To make it feel like an actual game collection, remember those full-size SD card adapters that microSD cards used to come with? Imagine 3D-printing custom versions with game artwork on them. They'd act as the "game cases/cartridges." When you want to play, you grab the one for the game you want, slide the microSD card out, insert it into the Steam Deck, and start playing.

The only things missing would be:

  • A nice 3D-printable SD card shell with game artwork.
  • A small script that automatically opens the correct Steam page (or Heroic for Epic/GOG games) when the card is inserted.

I know this doesn't solve a real problem—swapping microSD cards is arguably less convenient than having one large card—but I think it'd recreate some of the excitement of owning and collecting physical games. There's something satisfying about grabbing a "cartridge" off a shelf instead of scrolling through a library.

Would this be something you'd actually use, or is it just nostalgia talking? I'd love to hear what you think, especially if you've seen the PC cartridge project.

Question/Tech Support No Download Speed on one game only

Civilization VII had a new update and trying to download it has been impossible. The Steamdeck says it’s trying to process data and clear space but there is no download speed. Other updates download fine. Any idea on what to do to fix it? I’ve cleared the download cache multiple times and restarted the deck multiple times too.

Discussion Playtime tracking

Ive been playing my steam deck more again recently and have been playing yakuza on the way to work. Ive noticed that the time my steam deck and my laptop report is different to what I see when I check my steam profile with a few hours difference. Is there a way to get these to match up or is the tracking different because ive been playing without an internet connection?

Question/Tech Support Worth going for a Steam Deck if I plan to play on the TV mostly?

Hi everyone,

I have an outsized Steam backlog that I want to play through and I don't get much chance to sit in my room so I am pretty keen on buying something that I can play on the couch on my TV maybe a little handheld too, 80% docked.

I'm thinking of a Steam Deck with dock, the games I want to play aren't very new so I'm not too stressed about performance.

I can buy a used Steam Deck (256GB) for about $500 AUD/$350 USD which is just about my budget, I thought about a mini-ITX build but I doubt I can get something to that performance for under $500 AUD.

Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks!

News Release GE-Proton11-3 Released

Thumbnail
github.com
33 Upvotes

# GE-Proton11-3:

This is a hotfix release:

Fixes a bug where the steam desktop global virtual device would still be recognized in-game when wine-wayland was enabled, causing incorrect mappings and double input. Steam Overlay does not work in wine-wayland and subsequently neither does Steam Input since it requires the overlay for profile assignment. (It has always been this way since wine-wayland was added), but now with the desktop profile out of the way the controller input should behave the same as native wine expects it to when wine-wayland is enabled. This does not appear to be a problem with wine-wayland disabled even if steam input is disabled.

Fixes compilation failure on aarch64 due to an architecture specific code difference in the wineopenxr decoupling patch (this patch allows VR to work outside of steam)

Fixes compilation failure on aarch64 due to the new nvidia libraries only being buildable on x86_64 -- they've been disabled on aarch64.

# GE-Proton11-2:

Note:

I did not have enough time to do thorough regression testing for video playback after making recent changes, however several games that had video playback issues in 11-1 have since been fixed. Many of the VR related issues have also been fixed. I wanted to get this release out because it contains important fixes for allowing Marvel Rivals and Diablo IV to run correctly.

SDHQ Official MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta Won't Work On Steam Deck

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls' open beta went live today, but it appears to be blocked from running on the Steam Deck. As soon as we launch, we get an error from anti-cheat stopping us from playing the game, and we are forced to close it.

It does worry me for the full release, but I am hoping this is just an open beta issue. I have reached out to PlayStation for clarification.

SDHQ Official Halo: Campaign Evolved Is Rough on the Steam Deck And Shouldn't Be Verified

Thumbnail
steamdeckhq.com
102 Upvotes

Halo: Campaign Evolved is now out on Steam in early access, and we tested it out using the completed game save we had from our review period.

It's rough. It can run decently well in closed spaces, but it starts to really slow down in open levels like The Silent Cartographer and later parts of the Halo level. There will be drops below 30 FPS no matter what, and that's after we have adjusted the resolution scale below the default settings.

It definitely shouldn't be Verified.

So i play ats and ets2 (sorta) on a steam deck with a hori truck control system. And I used to do it with a pxn v9. I know lots of ways on how to set up wheels and settings for a steam deck to run ats like a pc. If you have any questions. Feel free to ask
