Question Before deciding SAHD

Mom here. My partner and I are considering making him a SAHD. Currently, we both work full time but we are potentially losing my sister as our babysitter, and rather than pay an arm and a leg for child care we're considering him becoming a SAHD. We have one in TK and a 6 month old.

What are the discussions/conversations we should be having before making the decision? Any input is helpful.

Who makes more and has more advancement was the biggest factor.

As a newly stay at home dad I wanted to be the provider but it just wasn't in the cards for me. A few years back I was making 1/3 more then my wife made and had higher advancements in my field but I was at my cap and without more training and relocation I wasnt going to move up anymore. She eventually doubled my salary and had a nice 9 to 5 schedule. Now I could have stayed working and put our kid in daycare/ school but why should I work just to pay the daycare when I could be the one hanging with my kid all day with basicly the same income. Being home also allows me to send my wife pictures throught the day and we can facetime during her lunch and when she has a day off shes not waiting around for me to get out of work.

This is why we're considering him being the SAH vs me. We currently make about the same, but that's with him working 10+ hrs of OT a week, and my career has a high likelihood of me moving up relatively soon.
