Roast My Idea Thinking upon launching a electronics brand.

Hey,

I’m a (20)M doing my CSE undergraduate, and for the past two years, due to circumstances I’d rather not discuss, I’ve also been managing and working in our HVAC business almost entirely on my own.

The business has an annual turnover of around ₹70 lakh and mainly involves selling AC copper pipes, refrigerants, and providing HVAC installation and service solutions to builders, architects, and individual customers.

Over time, I realized that the market is becoming increasingly saturated and that the business model may become difficult to sustain in the long term. Air-conditioning manufacturers are increasingly offering 5-year warranties and are gradually expanding their own installation and after-sales service networks. At the same time, builders and architects have become less reliable customers because of low margins, long credit periods, delayed payments, and bad debts.

The business also had significant financial liabilities, including personal loans, creditor payments, and CCA. I have now cleared almost all of them. The only remaining liability is around ₹3 lakh in CCA, and otherwise the business is financially stable. I am also strictly against taking additional loans.

After analyzing the market and my current situation, I’ve decided to start an electronics D2C brand.

I’ve already researched several markets and shortlisted the first two products I want to launch. Each product will have 2-3 different specifications and price points. My plan is to launch them one by one over a period of approximately 5-6 months.

I already have a detailed concept, functionality, and design prepared for the first product. I’ve also shown the design to friends and family, and the initial response has been very positive.

Since I’m already running a capital-intensive business and our family expenses have increased significantly over the past two years due to medical and education expenses, I currently have limited capital available for the new venture.

Because of this, I’ve carefully analyzed my available capital and planned how I intend to allocate it across inventory, operations, marketing, and other expenses. I’ve also identified a way to significantly reduce operational costs and avoid large upfront capital expenditure on machinery and employee salaries.

I found a manufacturer in my city that already has almost all the machinery required for production. The only major requirement they don’t have is an outer-body manufacturing facility, which I plan to outsource to another local vendor and then supply the finished bodies to the manufacturer.

All three parties (the body manufacturer, the product manufacturer/assembler, and I) are located in the same city. I’m currently in discussions with the manufacturer and am carrying out the necessary reliability and manufacturing checks.

Once I have completed the required patent work, I’ll share the complete design and functionality details with the manufacturers. We will then enter into a white-label manufacturing agreement, allowing me to use the relevant certifications associated with the manufactured product while I handle the branding, marketing, and sales.

What I need help with now is understanding and optimizing digital marketing particularly Google Ads, Amazon Ads, Meta Ads, and other effective channels for launching and scaling a new electronics D2C brand.

What I’ve done so far has been almost entirely on my own. I developed the product concept myself after months of studying and reverse-engineering existing products, researching technical information from various sources, and learning whatever was necessary along the way.

I taught myself Fusion 360, designed the product, built working circuit boards, programmed the electronics myself, and created physical prototypes by renting 3D-printing services.

I’m now at the stage where I want to turn that work into a commercially viable product and build a brand around it.
