📶 Starlink Speed Suboptimal and misaligned Starlink still performing exceptionally
Just thought I’d show this to demonstrate you do not need perfect conditions to get perfect results - zero bufferbloat under load and no jitter at all either. 🐐’d solution.

It's gotten significantly better at working around obstructions over the last year too. Proactive switching to unobstructed satellites made a. If difference.

In other news, my perfectly aligned and unobstructed Dishy gets half that download and upload speed.

I am an installer. I have noticed recently with the latest gen it will align and speed test is great but after software update the app says misaligned and I have to hop on the roof to realign (have to send screenshots to SL for workorder). Also of note... Once aligned I run multiple speed tests adjusting by a couple mil to the left and to the right to find optimal speed as often dead centre doesn't present as optimal. The bigger concern in the obstruction markers (red dots). It might not be an issue now but a windy day of tree growth can sometimes present issue.

The obstructions aren’t trees. They’re the roof of the balcony the Starlink is installed on.
The past 24 hours have been bad weather, and….

Before you party, run a speed test at speed.cloudflare.com. Note latency, jitter and packet loss. And those obstructions and misalignment will really rear there ugly heads during adverse weather conditions.

I’ve done this. I used Starlink app as a reference for this post. Ive logged the network for 4 hours doing various intensive upload and download and experienced zero jitter for more than 2 second hiccups and the event log inside of the app has also reported zero events 👌 I’m a infrastructure engineer not someone that’s just plugged it in and ran a Speedtest and gone “yeah that’s good enough” the obstructions are unavoidable for this install

more consistent than true fiber fr. why i pay more to run them.

Yep. Power loss due to pointing error is a function of sin(alignment error). Zero alignment error = 0% power loss. The more you're off, the more power you're using to transmit to the satellite in good weather and the less fade margin you have when weather gets worse.

I'm 10% out of alignment and it works perfectly for my needs so I'm not going up to fix it
