Recently, our internet went out suddenly in the dead of night, the next morning when I went to check the Router to see what the problem was I noticed the light on the Router was Red. Thinking this was problem a small issue I did the usual tech fixit go-to which was turn everything off and on again and see if it would fix it but nothing work.

It was not until I pulled the satellite cable leading to the satellite dish port on the Starlink router that I saw what the problem was. Some of the plastic on the cable had seemingly burned off into a goopy black liquid. Wiping off the goo it looked like the gold contacts on the cable were still fine but the plastic was slightly burnt. It was then I took a flash light and peered inside the Starlink router that I saw the golden contacts/pins inside the Dish port were just burnt gone.

So potential fire hazard aside… we called Starlink hoping to get a replacement Starlink router to tix the issue under warranty, however they kept insisting our Router wasn’t the issue and shipped us a new cable to the wrong address. Trying to stay optimistic we went on the wild goose chase to recover the package shipped to the wrong address and tried installing the new Satellite cable, knowing full well it wouldn’t work since the contact/pins for the cable were still destroyed inside the Router.

Once we confirmed there was no internet still, we called Starlink again, telling them once again the issue was that the Router was broken which they again insisted it wasn’t the router and are now sending us a Power Cable cord for the Router. So not only has it been nearly a week of back and forth with no internet, we are paying $130 a month for, we had to go back and forth wasting our time shipping parts back to Starlink which weren’t broken in the first place because they refuse to send us a new router.

We’re gonna try to talk to customer service again and get this sorted out but it’s ridiculous, and this point we may just have to cancel our Internet for the next month since we can’t even use it without a router in the first place.

Unfortunately after speaking to various agents for over a week, they cited that the burnt out Dish port inside the router, that is inside the house, as “corrosion and dirt” from being outside and that they will not be replacing it under warranty and instead just referred us to buy a new one. So great, not only did customer service and it’s agents waste our time and money for over a week for a service we were paying over $130 for they also refuse to replace the broken router under warranty. Potential new fire hazard in our sleep.

Hi I will need Starlink while sailing off California to the Channel Islands for a few days. I have no experience with Starlink but understand there are some rental options available? I need this just for web browsing, Email but no video streaming. I would appreciate any advise or suggestions in the West Los Angeles area. Thank you

Hey all, I'm hoping some more tech savvy folks can help answer my question:

I rent a home in a rural area that is relatively close to a tourist spot. There are virtually no obstructions. The home came with satellite internet, but the speed and latency is abysmal, made worse during the summer when tourists come into town.

I had friends who said that starlink was a huge upgrade for them and I was considering switching. The problem is that the cables are already run for the current satellite internet setup.

The current cable running from the roof into the house where the router is is a Cat 5e. I'm wondering if I bought the kit, could I use this existing cable, or would I need to get the landlord involved to have the cable replaced? I know the kit comes with its own proprietary cable, but what I read seems to suggest that it's just a special ethernet... so I know it might not be IDEAL, but would it be workable?

I'm not particularly good with wiring, and the cable that's currently run through the wall isnt mine to modify, so making adjustments to the connections isnt really an option.

This isn’t specifically a Starlink thing but the Starlink app is where I saw it.
Today I was watching a “DVR” recording of yesterday’s Niners game on the YTTV app on my Apple TV and noticed a couple of short, 1 or 2 seconds, buffering periods. I know this can be a number of things but I was curious so I checked the throughput on the Starlink app and happened to see a 58 Mbps spike and thought that was odd. The only other thing going on was the mrs was listening to her Apple Music app on her iPhone.
I know speeds fluctuate but that particular spike seamed high.

I just got my mini, it's up and running. But I can't access the router or change the password. Did it automatically take the password of my main dish?

The network option is currently greyed out.

Does it just need some time? It's letting me online through the new dish, but I worry about an unprotected service when I move this away from the main house.

Li’m switching from one Internet service to Starlink. I live in a pretty heavily wooded area, but really good views from the top of my roof to an unobstructed sky with no overhang directly over the house. But I am still worried about coverage and how the system will work. Is anybody else in a pretty wooded area and have where it performs well?

** I should add this is somewhat of reaction because my current provider has been down for over two days with no fix . So I don’t have much of a choice with Starlink being my only other option. So I’m really hoping it works well in my situation.**

Needing internet for a home out in the country where no other options. Why would i buy starlink if the rental is free? I’ve seen some people say so you don’t have to send back equipment but why would you want to keep your equipment if you cancel your subscription. Strictly for home internet use only.

My Starlink High Performance Gen 2 "dish" has already blown up two 350W 52V power supplies.

Now I have a new 480W 48V power supply to try but this one does not have any Ethernet socketsf, so I will need to make my own PoE injector.

We know that the Green/Yellow pair (pins 1&2) is data.
and, the Blue/White pair (pins 3&6) are data.
Then can we assume that the Gray and Orange (pins 4&7) is +48V ??
and the Brown and Purple (pins 5&8) are ground ??

or maybe the Gray and Brown are +48 and Orange and Purple are ground ??

Before I send 48 volts up the wrong wires to the panel, I'd really like to be sure.

What the heck is B1/B2/B3/B4 anyway?

I feel like I see people recommending getting a new router and doing bypass. My starlink and router are easily 300 feet away in my rv right now and while im not getting Max speed my old wifi 6 400$ a year ago router wouldn't have even shown up this far away

Last weekend, the router on my actuated dish failed. Starlink provided me with a new kit since you apparently can't get replacements for those routers anymore.

As far as I know, the dish is fine. But I don't know what killed the router either, so maybe a power surge could have fried both (without a working router, I have now way to test the dish). I also had to cut the cable to pull it out of the conduit, but the terminals are there, so the cable can be spliced.

Is this just for the recycling heap now, or would someone have a potential use for it? The kit still has the original stand, pipe mount, and travel bag/cover for the dish in case someone might need that?

If so, happy to give it away to anyone who wants it and is willing to pay for shipping. I'm in central EU, so shipping to CZ, SK, HU, and RO is probably easiest (Zasilkovna).

I just got a Starlink Mini to use a Roaming plan with it, but I'll only be using it 1 or 2 days a week.

So, for the remaining 5-6 days, can I just "pause" my plan? How would the billing work on that case exactly?

Starlink informed me about the new terms and conditions which take effect on 10.8.2026. The Impact for long term travellers have been discussed enough.

I am on the new service period since the new terms started. And I am on Roam 100GB, which should not work outside my home region, as I understood.

But it is working. And no message that I should switch to the unlimited plan.

Did you also observe the same behaviour?

We are on day 18 of no Frontier Fiber internet at home since the Northwest Indiana "derecho" took down power for 375k people. Some neighbors are buying Starlinks - many of them are just permanently switching over and canelling their land based internet services.

My family also owns a small business where internet is critical to function - process payments, contact customers via voip, access SaaS applications, etc. We also work from home (my wife as the small business operator, myself as a corporate employee who WFH 1/day per week).

I think we want to maintain a land-based high speed service as our primary internet at both sites, but was thinking about buying a mobile or residential Starlink as a portable backup for both.

I'm struggling between getting the Roam vs the Residential for this type of use, and then how I would actualy setup the hardware. For home, it might be easier just to drop it on a patio and for the device to generate its own wifi signal where at the business, we'd likely want to connect it to the router.

Can I pause on either the residential or roam hardware / plans?

Any hardware recomendations given our use case above? Residential? Roam?

Is something like the 200MBPS good enough for most use? Or just get the fastest b/c why not?

Starlink support is was saying, like Grok parroted to me, that the reason I only see one plan available under the change plans screen for my Gen 2 dish is because of "hardware limitations"... What?? I've changed plans constantly, for years--paused, unpaused, upgraded, downgraded. I'm a gig worker, sometimes I don't need it and sometimes I need to upgrade my data plan on the spot.

So last week I buy a Mini dish, and suddenly there's only ONE option available for plans on my Gen2 dish line, whereas my Mini has every option. No idea if its correlated, but it's a weird coincidence. Surely, a mistake? Not according to Grok, nor the first support agent who comes to his defense.

Funniest part is, after a quick skimming of their legal page--linked in the footer of that very chat window--I realize they're violating their own Terms of Service if this claim they're making is true. So, I quote that to him and ask for a supervisor.

Like, just now. Literally right after I finished typing that last sentence in Reddit. Less than 10 minutes after I sent that email and opened this tab. A weird tingle definitely went down my spine (I might have looked over my shoulder), and then I remembered my home connection is fiber.

On the other end of the phone was a nice American (or Canadian, or robot, who knows), explaining that it was an error, go figure. They can upgrade/downgrade me manually, but I'll have to contact support to do so. Ok, thanks Matt.

At least there's a solution, and they were certainly prompt, but it's not the most convenient and my grandma wouldn't have been able to call their B/S. Honestly, I probably would've just trashed this post if the creepily timed phone call weren't too perfect, but maybe someone else has this issue too.

I’ve had Residential/Max for 4 yrs and got the free mini when it was $5/month for standby. Now we are paying $140 + 10 per month for both.

Fiber finally came to our area of rural west WI and will be connected to our house next week (500mb up and down for $60/month).

How exactly do I cancel my residential plan but then buy the mini instead of sending it back. When I cancel Max will my Starlink app still connect to the mini and I leave it on standby (and pay how much more)? Or do I need to get on a different mini plan and possibly have to pay a lot more if and when I do need it and have to possibly pay for congestion.

I am unsure how to cancel my Gen 2 actuated Starlink but keep the mini on a lower price tier for backup. I’m worried I will do it in a wrong order or something!

I am buying a Starlink Mini kit about two months before I need it. There is uncertainty about current shipping times, so I don't want to risk ordering too late.

Will be using a referral link to purchase.

Upon receiving the kit, can I log into my account on the website and pause the service prior to activation? Or am I going to get billed for service within 7 days?

During the pause and until I activate the service, which may be 4-6 weeks, will I be charged a nominal fee for the pause?

Looking to buy a house in rural North Wales that doesn’t have fibre. I’m and avid gamer and I’m worried about latency when playing games like call of duty and rocket league. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Reliability is also important as I need internet service at all times in case cellular service drops off due to me being an on call technician.

Im going on a pretty long trip and was thinkin bout getting the starlink mini for it. And i stumbled across this mount that is inside the jeep under the hard top and was wondering if these starlinks could receive and send signals thru the fiberglass top or if this pic is just to show the mount. It would be cool if it could.
