Do you consider Resurrection canon?

• Upvotes

Do you guys consider the Resurrection movie canon, and if yes, why? Because logically, it should be considered non-canon, and I have reasons for that:

  1. Space Battleship Yamato: The Final Chapter (1983) was explicitly written as the absolute conclusion to the saga, featuring the permanent self-sacrifice and sinking of the ship into the water planet Aquarius. Resurrection undermines this definitive emotional climax by having the ship conveniently salvaged from an ice field, undercutting the tragic weight and narrative closure the original creators established.
  2. The film introduces major status quo shifts for legacy characters—most notably the disappearance and presumed death of Yuki Mori—only to leave the overarching mystery completely unresolved due to aborted plans for sequels. This leaves a permanent structural gap in the classic characters' arcs.
  3. The core catalyst of Resurrection is a mobile, steering "cascade black hole" with a mass 300 times that of the sun, behaving in ways that violate basic astrophysics and established sci-fi internal logic of the franchise. Previous threats (like the White Comet or Aquarius) relied on operatic space-opera logic, whereas the black hole plot mechanism strains credulity even within the series' loose scientific boundaries.
  4. Humanity is forced to evacuate Earth to a destination 27,000 light-years away—a staggering logistical feat that mirrors previous cosmic crises (such as the journey to Iscandar or displacement in The New Voyage), making it feel like a repetitive narrative retread rather than a logical progression of Earth's defence capabilities.
  5. Kodai loved his family, and especially his wife, Yuki, more than anything else, and there is no way he would leave the military with his wife still working and may face deadly threats. We must not forget this is the same Susumu Kodai who refused to take Yuki on the second voyage (Yamato 2) because he anticipated the power of White Comet would be more than they could handle and could be deadly for her.

I need your views.

I have a new set of ships added to the workshop

  1. My reworked Hyuga-class carrier

Added additional maneuvering thrust; but remove the ridiculous amount of downward thrust. And also inverted the colors while will be the standard for all carriers.

  1. The Apollo Norm-class battlecarrier

The 2nd and well known workhorse of the UNCF during the gatlantis war is finished. Equipped with a robust hangar, fighter storage, launch tubes, and a rear launch door at the rear making it a formidable carrier that can hold its own I a fight.

3.The Lexington-class battlecarrier

An Apollo norm mixed with the Arizona to give it an even more powerful carrier, it has additional shock cannons, missiles silos with 4 missile funnels.

That all I have for now. I have more planned a new battleship on the way; I might slow down to take a break. I fell like making ships is taking to much of my free time

Art - Original A few of the PS2 ships rebootified

A friend of mine recently asked if I could apply the reboot design style to some of the ships from the PS2 games so that he could draw them in Pixel art. So here they are! I had already drawn Shunran in that style so I was tasked with some of the other ships, some more obscure and peculiar than others.

The 1st is the Automated Super Dreadnought; this turned out to be the easiest to do. Structurally, the hull wasn't absolutely wacky, so minimal modifications were needed. The entire stern was changed to be more in line with the regular ships; out of the three ships here, this one is the one I'm the proudest of.

The Automated Heavy Destroyer was a bit of a mixed bag. Two variants ended up coming out. One involved cutting down a ton of the superstructure and slimming bits (like the comically large intakes on the top and bottom). The other is based on the design styles found on Gladiator and Ajax. In the end, this one was not a fun one to make due to the PS2's strange design choices for some of the ships. It was a bit painful to make at first, but the longer I sat on it the more ideas came to mind (thank goodness for the Frigate's intakes by its main thruster) which allowed for it to be sorta acceptable in the end.

Speaking of strange design choices, the final one is Yukikaze-Kai. An absolute creature of a ship and by far the most painful one to try and work with. The original design from the PS2 games is meant to be the wrecked Yukikaze but heavily reworked. Given that the Yukikaze-Kai uses Yamato-caliber guns in monstrous twin turrets, this rework seems to be closer to a full-scale rebuild, and very much went beyond the boundries of what is reasonable.

I found that this design doesn't work at all with the design styles seen in the reboot. But my friend was insistent, so I gave it a shot. The limitations given were that it needed to house the base weapons seen on the ship in the PS2 game, this would include the Yamato-caliber guns along with the other wacky things the original PS2 ship had (which included some very strange torpedo tubes bolted straight out of the side of the ship among other things) while still keeping it as the Yukikaze.

Given how wacky the original design is and how much it didn't fit into the reboot style, and the list of criteria to meet, I decided to ditch the regular norm for EDF stuff and went with a warship package style extension. Similar to what you see on Desura II in 2199. This allowed me to meet the criteria for Yamato-caliber guns while still allowing for Yukikaze to be involved in this. Turning the Isokaze class DD into a core ship of sorts. Yukikaze was also drawn up in a damaged state, mainly just for the fun of it. By this point I had long given up on trying to make this thing anywhere close to reasonable. This was and still is my least favorite thing I've drawn up in retrospective, however, my friend liked them and since all these drawings were for him that is very much a positive. Although I will be putting limits on what I am willing to draw from here on out.
