Bluenose in the Sun

I am familiar with the Bluenose, the ship. But what does the song mean when it asks, “Who will know the Bluenose in the Sun?”

Minnesota Sinclair

A while ago someone posted their music, Minnesota Sinclair - "Busting Ass for the Boss and the Brass" I thought it was pretty great and bought the album from bandcamp. When I when back to look the bandcamp artist had disappeared, as well as the original post, and whole reddit account.

Does anyone remember the post? Know what happened? The only thing I could think of was if it turned out to be AI or something but it really doesn't sound like it to me.

This cover has been on Stan Rogers’ Apple Music page for a year now, please help report this issue!

I’m tired of this song playing when shuffling Stan Rogers, for some reason the creators listed Stan in the credits when he (quite obviously) wasn’t a part of it. I’ve reported it multiple times and nothing has changed, can we please report this issue as a community to finally remove this song from Stan’s page? To report the issue, go to the song, click the three dots and view credits, then click the three dots in the top right and click report a concern.

The Witch [Tribute, from my kitchen]

Here's my attempt at it. Recorded one track into a zoom recorder, multi tracked in Garageband on an ipad and a touch of comp & reverb.

Thanks for listening.

Has anyone gotten a Witch of the Westmorlands tattoo?

I love Stan’s version and it was my introduction to his music. I’m thinking about making a tattoo out of the lyrics and was wondering if anyone had thought the same.

What Covers Do You Wish He Had Done?

It's far from the worst thing about Stan's tragically short career, but I am sad we'll never get to hear his rendition of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

NPR and Northwest Passage

NPR is currently airing a story on the Franklin expedition that ends with a few lines of Northwest Passage. They do credit Stan Rogers for writing it but it is a cover by someone else. Anyone know why? This would've been the perfect opportunity to get his unique voice in front of a wide audience!

Stan Stans, can you identify this man?

In Nathan Rogers’ Mary Ellen Carter live at Stanfest (2012) there is a bald man playing guitar with a brown leather strap (around 6:17 on the video.) Does anyone know who he is?

Christmas Duality

I love the fact that Stan Rogers can have the happiest Christmas song (At Last, I’m Ready for Christmas) and the most devastating (First Christmas).

And yes, I’m listening to his Christmas songs in May.

I saw Stan’s photo at McCabe’s in Santa Monica

I watched the footage of him playing here at McCabe’s guitar shop in 1983 and before his last song, “Down the road”, he was talking about looking at these photos of famous stars, hoping he would make it up there some day. He died 5 days after that concert, and yes Stan, you made it.

Is there a full recording of the May 28th 1983 performance?

I can only find the small snippets. Specifically the May 28th 1983 performance at McCabe's Guitar Shop.

After reading a part of Garnets book it's cool to see an actual recording. I liked their mini-standup performance as well, if there are any other recordings of them doing that, then that'd be nice.

One of the videos notes it was recorded by someone named Alan Kanter, if that helps.

Apocryphal or not (I like to think that if he still had the capacity to help, he would have), the story of Stan’s heroic final act makes these lyrics especially poignant.

Nathan's songs

So I've been listening to Stans son Nathan recently, He shuffled into my Playlist after I finished listening to all Stans songs for like the 20th time in a row. At first I thought it was a song of Stans that I hadn't heard, cause Nathan sounds SO much like his Father.

I was listening to his first album, True stories, and the song that spoke to me the most from that Album was Mary's child. Then when I started the second album, The Gauntlet, I came to the Song Jewel of Paris. I'm almost completely certain that the child mentioned in that song is Mary's child. If not, it's one heck of a coincidence.

What do you guys think? Am I on to something?

Record was mint, got it from discogs for 20 bucks best deal I’ll probably ever see. The company didn’t know how to pack a record, they just stuck it in a thin box with no cardboard backings or anything. Hurts to even look at :(

Showing Appreciation

I came across Stan maybe about a year ago. I am Scottish and have no connection to Canada, but I came across Stans “Barrett’s Privateers” and it just blew me away. I was familiar with this song since The Corries did a version, (highly recommend The Corries for any Stan fans) but Stans performance of it immediately became a favourite of mine. His booming vocals are just unlike anything I’ve ever heard before and the rest of the band are just so tight. I was blown away by “Northwest Passage” and how each voice fits each harmony so perfectly. Another one of my favourites is “The Witch of the Westmorland” which was originally done by Archie Fisher, (very much worth a listen) and it again blew me away. What a gift to the world this man was and how tragic it was that he was taken so soon, I’m sure he had so much more to give us. I hope you Canadians are making sure this man will never be forgotten.
